Chapter 650: Accidents Will Happen
In the evening, after dinner, Rin Nohara took a walk on the streets near her home as usual.
It wasn't that she was deliberately keeping in shape, but since she was very young, her parents had taken her for walks after dinner, and so she developed this habit.
Now, if she didn't take a walk or stand for a while after eating, she would feel uncomfortable and uneasy.
Suddenly, Rin Nohara spotted a familiar figure.
"Obito, good evening," Rin Nohara greeted with a smile.
"Good evening to you too, Rin," Obito replied with a smile.
Before Rin could say anything more, Obito spoke up first: "What a coincidence, you're also taking a walk after dinner, Rin?"
"Also? Obito, are you taking a walk after dinner?" Rin was a bit puzzled.
The Uchiha clan grounds were quite a distance from her house; this was quite a long walk for Obito.
"Yeah," Obito nodded, then pretended to remember something and said:
"Oh, by the way, on my walk I noticed something—the Yamanaka Flower Shop is having a sale tomorrow. Would you like to go check it out, Rin? I'm free tomorrow, so I can go with you."
Of course, Obito hadn't actually walked all the way here; he had deliberately come to run into Rin based on her habits.
According to the love theory master, Izumo Kamizuki, issuing an invitation too directly would make a girl subconsciously raise her guard, so he needed to "run into her" and then make the invitation at just the right moment.
"Didn't you eat at home, Obito?" Rin found it even stranger.
The Yamanaka Flower Shop was not close to either her house or Obito's.
"Uh, I had dinner with my team today," Obito quickly realized the flaw in his words and covered up.
"That's really nice," Rin recalled how Muzuki and Minato Namikaze used to take them out to eat after missions, and sighed with emotion.
Without even realizing it, Obito had become someone else's guide.
"So, what about tomorrow, Rin?" Obito asked tentatively, suppressing his inner excitement.
"Go to the flower shop? Sure, that sounds good," Rin nodded with a smile and agreed.
Although Obito tried his best to control himself, the corners of his mouth still uncontrollably lifted, revealing an excited smile.
"Izumo, Kotetsu, you two really live up to being my future guards—so reliable!"
Obito laughed wildly in his heart, feeling that becoming a team leader was truly a stroke of genius.
Not only had it brought him spiritual satisfaction, but it also led to this unexpected help.
"Then see you tomorrow at 9:50."
Following the instructions on the scroll, Obito deliberately chose the time as 9:50 a. m.
9:50 wasn't close to lunchtime yet, but it was relatively close; he just needed to waste a bit more time to easily stretch it until lunchtime.
"9:50? That feels a little late. I think 9:00 would be better," Rin thought going at 9:00 would be nicer.
Obito started sweating a little. Rin usually had lunch at 12:00. If they went at 9:00, they'd need to hang around for three full hours before he could legitimately take her to lunch.
But how could you spend that long at a flower shop? Two hours and ten minutes was already the best Obito and his two strategists could come up with.
"Obito, what's wrong? Do you have something to do at 9:00?" Rin asked curiously.
"No," Obito answered subconsciously.
Instantly, Obito wanted to slap himself. Why was he being so honest? Now he had completely lost his reason to choose 9:50.
"You're right, Rin. Let's go at 9:00 then. 9:50 would be a bit late," Obito agreed reluctantly.
"Okay, see you tomorrow at 9:00," Rin smiled and waved goodbye to Obito.
"See you, Rin."
Seeing Rin's smile, Obito couldn't help but smile too. He waved and walked cheerfully back toward the Uchiha compound.
"Captain Obito, how can you still be smiling? This is a huge mistake!" Kotetsu Hagane sighed with a look of disappointment.
To prevent any accidents, the emotional duo plus Anko had been watching Obito from the sidelines the whole time.
And sure enough, something went wrong.
Obito rigidly applied formulas without adapting, and always subconsciously favored Rin Nohara, causing the plan to go awry.
"Yeah, how do we handle this extra fifty minutes?" Kotetsu's words pulled Obito away from Rin Nohara's smile, and he couldn't help but show a worried expression.
If they couldn't have lunch together because of this extra fifty minutes, then nearly half of the plan would be useless—a major mistake.
"It doesn't matter. I'll step in when the time comes," Anko said calmly.
"Step in for what? It'll be good enough if you don't cause trouble," Izumo said, somewhat speechless.
Although they were inferior to Anko in strength, in matters of romance, they were absolutely beyond Anko's reach.
After all, that Anko, not to mention having romantic experience, didn't even have any thoughts about romance.
They also found it hard to imagine who Anko might like or what she would be like in a relationship.
"Senior Obito, you don't need to panic. We'll provide off-site assistance, follow you from the shadows, and give you tips and help to ensure the plan goes smoothly," Izumo said as he handed a walkie-talkie to Obito.
Izumo knew well that plans could not keep up with changes, and designing a perfect plan with absolutely no surprises was very difficult, something they couldn't achieve at the moment.
However, even if they couldn't make a perfect plan, they could remedy according to changes, which was a method with low feasibility.
"I'm counting on you all!" Obito said, touched.
As expected of the teammates he recognized, their reliability was second only to his own.
The next day, morning.
Obito carefully chose clothes suitable for a date.
Even he knew that during a date, he couldn't wear the combat uniform like he did during usual training.
After his grandmother noticed, she couldn't help teasing:
"Picking clothes so seriously—could it be that you're going on a date with Rin and then confess?"
Obito's face instantly turned red, and he quickly waved his hands, saying:
"Grandma, don't talk nonsense! It's just going out to play together."
"Going out to play together—isn't that a date?" Grandma asked, feigning a puzzled expression.
Obito didn't speak, but his face became even redder.
Seeing this, Grandma stopped teasing Obito, smiled, and went about her own business to avoid wasting Obito's time.
In the end, Obito chose a beige hoodie for the top and black pants for the bottom.
He really couldn't figure out how to dress to look fashionable and good, so he could only choose what he was relatively satisfied with.
After changing clothes, Obito carefully looked through the scroll again to confirm today's outing plan.
After all preparations were done, Obito set out early for the agreed meeting place, arriving fifteen minutes before the scheduled time.
These fifteen minutes were Obito's buffer time for unexpected situations. If he were late due to an accident, Obito felt he might regret it for a long time.
Rather than regretting after something happens, it's better to prepare early to prevent accidents from occurring.
This was a rare two-person date, without that obstructive, detestable white-haired Kakashi.
About five minutes after Obito arrived, Rin Nohara appeared in his line of sight.
"Rin, good morning," Obito greeted Rin Nohara cheerfully.
"Good morning," Rin Nohara replied with a smile.
"You arrived really early, Obito. I guessed you would come early, but it's even earlier than I imagined."
"Hehe," Obito laughed even more happily.
He had arrived fifteen minutes early and still met Rin Nohara so quickly, which meant Rin Nohara had also arrived early.
Even if Rin Nohara had been late, as long as she came, Obito would be happy. But since Rin Nohara came early, Obito was certainly even happier.
Because this showed that Rin Nohara also cared about him.
"I feel like you're a bit different today, Obito."
Rin Nohara noticed that Obito wasn't wearing his combat uniform or tracksuit, and had even taken off the goggles he never removed.
"So, how do I feel?" Obito asked a bit nervously.
"How to put it?" Rin Nohara looked thoughtful.
"When you're in your combat uniform, you seem a bit more reliable…"
Obito's heart sank, and his face unconsciously showed a mix of nervousness and a forced calm.
"But Obito in these casual clothes has a relaxed kind of coolness—it's pretty nice." Rin Nohara changed her tone to compliment him.
"Phew." The heavy stone in Obito's chest settled, and he felt relieved.
If spending so much time carefully choosing clothes only to leave an impression worse than his usual combat uniform, he probably would never buy casual clothes again.
"Huh?! Rin called me cool!"
Realizing what Rin Nohara had just said, Obito's heart rate shot up like a ninja racing with chakra, as if it might leap out of his chest. The smile on his face was practically overflowing.
Pfft.
Rin Nohara covered her mouth and chuckled.
"Not good—Captain Obito is getting played way too easily." Izumo Kamizuki put down his binoculars and said seriously.
Their plan to win over Rin Nohara hadn't even officially started, and he already felt Obito was about to wave a white flag.
"Isn't that fine? Senpai Rin is really considerate." Kotetsu Hagane put down his binoculars and said enviously.
If only Megumi could notice his feelings every time they met, no matter how great the difficulty, he would overcome it.
"You can hear what they're saying from this far away?" Anko asked in confusion.
"That's the difference between us. A qualified ninja must know how to read lips." Kotetsu Hagane lifted his chin and looked down at her.
Lip reading, combined with Obito's easy-to-read expressions, made decoding their conversation a breeze.
Bam!
Anko clenched her right fist and threw a heavy punch, hitting Kotetsu Hagane without mercy.
Caught off guard, Kotetsu Hagane nearly fell to the ground.
Izumo Kamizuki frowned and looked at Anko. "Kotetsu is an important combat powerhouse. Without him, how can we help Captain Obito complete the plan?"
"I'll just do it instead." Anko said confidently.
"How will you do it? Take them to a dumpling shop to build rapport?" Izumo Kamizuki retorted while helping Kotetsu Hagane steady himself.
"Stop arguing—Captain Obito and the others are about to move." Kotetsu Hagane stabilized himself and said.
Settling scores with Anko was trivial compared to the captain's lifelong happiness.
"Then it's our turn to act." Izumo Kamizuki nodded.
With that, the three of them erupted with chakra at the same time, flashed forward rapidly, circled around Obito and Rin Nohara, and got ahead of them.
Then the three of them together performed the Transformation Technique to alter their appearances.
"You're always thinking of yourself, acting on your own and making the team suffer the consequences. Are you trying to destroy our team? Get out of our team!" Kotetsu Hagane roared at Anko.
Anko instinctively threw another punch, directly dispersing Kotetsu Hagane's transformation.
"Anko, what are you doing?! We're supposed to be acting!" Izumo Kamizuki quickly helped steady Kotetsu Hagane.
In stories, the protagonist always runs into various unexpected events on a date.
But this was real life—rather than letting Obito rely on luck to encounter surprises, it was better for them to actively create one.
The surprise they wanted to create was a conflict within the team: two members dissatisfied with a new member, then Obito would righteously step in to mediate, allowing Rin Nohara to see Obito's kindness and reliability.
"Sorry—Kotetsu acted too well." Anko pressed her hands together in apology.
The way Kotetsu Hagane had looked and spoken just now made Anko feel as if she really was the one being scolded.
"Forget it, hurry up and get ready again—Captain Obito and the others are almost here." Izumo Kamizuki checked with his binoculars and said.
Kotetsu Hagane quickly recast the Transformation Technique and resumed their surprise plan.
Kotetsu Hagane and Izumo Kamizuki kept loudly scolding Anko, their expressions so earnest and their words so emotionally rich that Anko was amazed.
She had to admit that in terms of acting, she was indeed inferior to the two of them.
Several times she couldn't help wanting to punch each of them.
"What's going on? Let's go take a look, Obito."
Rin Nohara, who was walking nearby, noticed the commotion and wanted to find out what was happening.
"Okay."
Obito, who knew the full story, nodded and quickened his pace, staying half a step ahead of Rin Nohara.
"Aren't you Obito's teammates? What are you playing at?"
Just as Obito was mediating the conflict according to plan, a somewhat familiar voice rang out.
Kakashi looked strangely at Anko and the others and spoke.
He was passing by and happened to hear something about leaving the team.
Kakashi, who had a similar experience, instantly felt his DNA stir, so he came over to see what was happening.
With his strong perception, he noticed something odd about the three, so he opened the Transparent World and discovered that they were the members of Obito's temporary squad.
Kotetsu Hagane and the others, along with Obito, were all startled inwardly and thought, "This is bad."
"Why did he show up now? As expected, that naturally evil white-haired guy." Obito cursed wildly in his heart.
However, what must come will come. Since Kakashi had directly exposed it, Rin Nohara still voiced the doubt in her heart.
"Obito, your teammates?" Rin Nohara looked at Obito curiously.
"We're playing a role-playing game!" Izumo Kamizuki said, having a flash of inspiration and releasing the Transformation Technique.
"It's that kind of game that's been popular lately, playing roles and stuff."
"Right, right." Kotetsu Hagane quickly nodded.
Obito showed a relieved expression; his shadow guards were indeed reliable.
"Kakashi, good morning." Then Rin Nohara greeted Kakashi.
Obito's heart sank again. Was it going to be like before?
Someone, save us, deal with this naturally evil white-haired brat.
