Chapter 79: Group Teaching
Raidō Namiashi returned to the group, looking utterly dejected.
He wasn't upset about losing because Shisui had demonstrated real strength—he was no match for him.
But he felt humiliated by the loss; as a full-fledged genin, he had been beaten by a student who had just entered the academy, and so cleanly at that.
"This Uchiha Shisui is way too strong—even a formal genin can't beat him. Even Kakashi at the same age might not have done better, right?"
"There's also another possibility—that the opponent..."
Hearing the nearby academy students' comments about him, Raidō Namiashi felt even more ashamed.
As soon as Raidō returned, he saw that Asuma couldn't stop grinning.
"Asuma, do you know something about this?" Raidō Namiashi looked at Asuma suspiciously.
Thinking it over, he felt something was off.
Before, when Asuma had dragged them into special training, he had said that Muyue was his home tutor, so Asuma might have known there was a genius named Shisui Uchiha in Muyue's class.
"Know about what?" Asuma pretended to be clueless.
"How was I supposed to know that first-year student was so strong—he took you down, Raidō, in just two or three moves."
Hearing Asuma's words, Raidō felt as if another arrow had hit him; being taken down by a first-year student in just a few moves was truly embarrassing.
"Everyone, quiet down." Muyue pressed his palm downward to signal the group to stop discussing.
"We have students from first year to fourth year here, plus some graduated genin. All of you are comrades from the same village, and I hope you'll get along harmoniously."
"Later I'll test your abilities and then divide you into groups for special training. There will be three groups: A, B, and C, each receiving different training." Muyue answered the question Raidō had asked earlier.
With students from so many different grades plus some graduated genin, Muyue couldn't teach them all the same thing, so he chose to teach by groups.
Since they were all in the same training ground, he would finish teaching one group and then move to another; with the help of Shadow Clones, he could handle all three groups as if teaching three students.
The ability test was simple: he had the students demonstrate their basic ninja skills—ninjutsu, taijutsu, and shuriken throwing—and then the teacher would grade them.
Muyue called over some teacher-class instructors, and within one lesson they finished grading and grouping the three hundred-plus students.
Muyue positioned Group A as the genin-level group, prepared for graduated genin and outstanding academy students; the main training contents were chakra control, physical fitness and taijutsu, and the Body Flicker Technique.
Group B was for outstanding in-school students, with main training in the Three Basic Techniques, chakra control, and physical fitness and taijutsu.
Group C was for ordinary in-school students; the training content was similar to Group B, but the material taught was shallower and the training volume relatively lighter.
Muyue glanced at the Group A roster and immediately saw many familiar names.
Obito, Shisui, and Might Guy naturally needed no mention; there were also Asuma, Kurenai Yuhi, Genma Shiranui, Shizune...
Besides Shisui, everyone in Group A was either a genin or a fourth-year student on the grade ranking.
As for Group B, Muyue only saw three acquaintances: Ebisu, Hayate Gekko, and Rin Nohara.
Ebisu's performance was a bit awkward—compared to others in Group B, his level was very good, but it fell short of Group A; Hayate Gekko had just started third grade.
Anko, Kotetsu Hagane, and Izumo Kamizuki—the three suffering brothers—all went to Group C, because the definition of "outstanding" and "ordinary" was based on fourth-year standards.
Although the three could control lightning in first grade, they were ordinary by fourth-grade standards.
Muyue first went to Group A's area and said:
"Those who have completed the tree-climbing and water-walking training, stand on the right. Those who have only completed tree-climbing, stand on the left. Those who haven't completed either, stand in the middle."
Most people walked to the left, a few stood on the right, and very few stood in the middle.
Then he had those on the left try tree-climbing, and those on the right try water-walking.
Watching the students training, Muyue roughly understood the level of chakra control among Group A.
Obito, Asuma, Shisui, and Might Guy no longer needed to practice water-walking; the others still had to practice.
"That's not 'completed training'—you've only learned a little bit," Muyue said to a student who was climbing a tree.
Then Muyue had Obito demonstrate what it really meant to have completed tree-climbing and water-walking training.
Obito charged straight up a large tree, then attached both feet to a branch, spun three hundred sixty degrees a dozen times, and still had his soles firmly stuck to the branch.
Then Obito showed off running wildly on the water's surface while being disrupted by Water Dragon Bullet.
"Only when you reach this level can you be considered to have completed the training." Mu Yue pointed at Obito and said.
"Currently, only Asuma, Shisui, and Obito among you can achieve this level."
Raido Namiashi, refusing to believe it, went down to challenge himself, but couldn't last three minutes before he started drinking water.
"Asuma can do it?" Raido Namiashi felt that Mu Yue might have overestimated Asuma's ability.
"Raido, don't underestimate me. My chakra control is very strong." Asuma, seeing that his good buddy didn't believe in him, also went down and showed his skill.
"It feels like Asuma has secretly gotten stronger..." Raido Namiashi watched Asuma, who was as steady as an old dog amidst the waves, and grew puzzled.
"Asuma, it seems you've become even more impressive," Kurenai Yuhi said honestly.
"Haha, it's nothing special, just basic skills." When Asuma heard Kurenai Yuhi's praise, the upward curve of his mouth couldn't come down.
He instantly felt that the water he had drunk during Mu Yue's training before was not in vain.
"Chakra control is a required course for ninjas. I hope that in two weeks, all of you can stand on the right side." After demonstrating a few times for the Group A students, Mu Yue said.
Next, Mu Yue went to Group B and asked the same question again.
However, the situation in Group B was different. Only Ebisu was standing on the right side, most people were in the middle, and a few were on the left.
Mu Yue had them demonstrate their chakra control level, which was much worse than Group A's earlier. Except for Ebisu, Mu Yue had everyone else do tree climbing training, while Ebisu continued practicing water walking.
As for Group C, Mu Yue didn't continue asking; instead, he directly started teaching them taijutsu.
Mu Yue's training plan for Group C was to train their physique and practice taijutsu in the morning, and cultivate the three basic techniques in the afternoon. Once these two areas caught up, they could proceed with chakra control training.
Mu Yue left a shadow clone with each group, while his main body patrolled back and forth among the three groups, demonstrating and correcting whenever he saw students training incorrectly.
The morning passed quickly, and Mu Yue announced the end of class and the start of lunch break.
