Chapter 335: He Understands Metaphors
Soon after, Yan Buji followed them out of Wanlong Palace and headed to Soul Mountain to hunt.
The underwater ecology is extremely varied, and Yan Buji had never before hunted beneath the sea.
So along the way, aside from gathering some medicinal items, he basically said nothing.
Meanwhile, Wang Chao kept asking Yan Buji what the things he collected were for.
"This seaweed should be able to treat bruises and injuries, but it must be combined with a remedy; otherwise its toxicity is high. The best is... this: mix it with the seaweed, knead and squeeze out the juice; that should work," Yan Buji demonstrated.
Wang Chao nodded, "Oh, I see."
Seeing Yan Buji and Wang Chao chatting animatedly, Long Fei twitched their face and said, "Stop talking, we're almost there!"
Wang Chao stopped and said, "Today's target is the sea beast we spotted a few days ago; with Brother Yan's help this time, we should be able to secure it easily."
"The herbivorous demon beasts here should have low aggression, right? Are they dangerous?"
"No, they swim too fast to catch."
Yan Buji thought for a moment and nodded.
Upon entering Soul Mountain, it was just a barren earthen hill; because it's underwater, many colorful corals and small fish swam among them.
The group climbed the hill, and Yan Buji glanced around, suddenly spotting a Spiritual Material and took it.
The others said little and kept moving forward.
Soon, Wang Chao and the others saw the massive sea serpent.
The sea serpent's body was flattened, yet over twenty meters long and three meters wide, and it was gnawing on the coral reef atop Soul Mountain.
At that moment, Yan Buji was still holding the newly found Spiritual Material mixed with some herbs gathered along the way, binding them together, and then scorching them with elemental fire.
Wang Chao glanced at Yan Buji, said nothing more, and ordered everyone to crouch, not to startle the creature.
"Shh, we'll approach slowly," Wang Chao whispered, and the group hurried after.
Soon they got close; Wang Chao saw the squad in position, rushed forward and seized the sea serpent, "Attack!"
A few people immediately charged, targeting the serpent's vital spots.
The sea serpent startled, twisted its body and unleashed great force, flinging several dragonfolk back, while Wang Chao surged forward and landed a punch on the serpent's seven-inch point!
Bang!
The massive force shook Soul Mountain; the serpent, in pain, ceased resisting and fled.
"Quick, block it!" Wang Chao shouted, the serpent's body was huge yet agile, and its speed was very fast.
It took his own punch to a vital spot and seemed unfazed!
However, the sea serpent was not weak; it was a great demon equivalent to the Foundation Establishment Stage, and with its massive flesh and odd structure, it could disperse damage even from fatal wounds.
The other dragonfolk, seeing Wang Chao miss, hurried to block the serpent's escape route and launched a fierce attack.
Meanwhile, Yan Buji still took no action, focusing intently on scorching the medicine in his hand.
Wang Chao pursued, and saw the serpent, driven mad, lunge toward Long Fei with a bite.
Long Fei, sensing danger, quickly dodged!
But unexpectedly, a flash of light suddenly erupted from the serpent's body, and Wang Chao's pupils contracted:
"Long Fei, watch out!"
"Ouch!!"
Wang Chao rushed forward and shielded Long Fei!
The intense light seemed penetrative, burning the dragonfolk's scale armor black, causing a sharp ache.
Wang Chao blocked most of the damage for Long Fei, but couldn't stop the serpent from continuing to flee.
"It's over," Wang Chao sighed.
"Hold on, everyone, I'm coming!"
Yan Buji laughed, sped over, seized the serpent's tail, and flung the Spiritual Medicine onto its body!
Snap!
Sizzle!
The sea serpent twisted, its spine bent and convulsed, unable to keep fleeing.
Wang Chao, seeing this, exclaimed joyfully, "Well done, Yan!"
"Everyone, grab it together!"
After a hard fight, they finally killed the sea serpent.
It must be said, Yan Buji saw such a resilient sea serpent for the first time.
Perhaps due to deep‑sea pressure, most beasts here grow in bizarre shapes, but they're still edible.
Dragonfolk's constitution is far better than that of ordinary cultivators; common poisons have little effect on them.
"Let's go, Yan," Wang Chao shouted, hoisting the sea serpent, laughing.
"I'll first look for nearby Spiritual Materials, then meet you later. By the way, there are a few snake eggs here; take them back."
Yan Buji tossed the snake eggs left by the serpent over; Wang Chao caught them in one hand, nodded, "Alright! I'll keep one for you, and we'll have roasted snake eggs tonight!"
"Hehe."
Yan Buji laughed and dove into Soul Mountain to gather Spiritual Materials.
Long Fei raised an eyebrow, "Did you think he'd keep the eggs for himself? Wang Chao, you didn't call him out?"
"I know he's not that kind of person," Wang Chao laughed.
Wang Chao had originally noticed those eggs, but considering Yan Buji's great contribution this time, he turned a blind eye and didn't argue about fair distribution.
He thought that even if Yan Buji did hog them, it wouldn't matter; the one who contributed the most should enjoy the good food.
But he didn't expect Yan Buji actually gave them the eggs; what a generous person.
Wang Chao smiled, "Some things need no words; Yan isn't a selfish petty person. What he did before was also to help us."
Alright, let's head back first.
After Wang Chao and the others left, Yan Buji searched around in Soul Mountain.
Soon after, Yan Buji found a strange patch of grass covering one mu.
This grass has twin leaves, pressed low against the seabed and covered by soil; if you're not careful, you won't notice it.
"Fragrant Wanderer." Yan Buji gave a strange smile, and collected all of that mu of Fragrant Wanderer.
After a while, Yan Buji had almost gathered everything he wanted, then he left Soul Mountain and returned to Ten Thousand Dragon Palace.
Upon returning to his quarters, he found Wang Chao and the others already waiting for a while.
"You're back." Wang Chao smiled.
Yan Buji nodded, watching Long Fei light a fire to cook, when a very foul, fishy odor drifted over, his expression changed.
"What is this?"
"Didn't we agree? I saved a snake egg for you, roasted snake egg for you to eat."
"No, no, let's all eat together." Yan Buji smiled.
"The snake egg is roasted, come try it." Long Fei held a roasted snake egg and brought it to Yan Buji.
Yan Buji looked at the murky cooked egg inside the shell, silently glanced at Wang Chao: "You try it?"
"You eat first, it was meant for you; if you're willing to let us have some, I'm grateful, but the first bite has to be yours." Wang Chao smiled.
This person....
Yan Buji took a spoon, scooped a mouthful and put it in his mouth.
Long Fei's eyes lit up: "How does it taste?"
"Like thick phlegm wrapped around nose dung."
Long Fei: "....."
Everyone: "....."
Wang Chao coughed, stood up and said: "Then you eat slowly, we'll leave first."
"Eh eh eh, you know I definitely won't eat it, to avoid wasting food, I'll give it to you guys!"
Yan Buji hurriedly shoved the snake egg into Wang Chao's hands, then pushed them out the door.
"I'm a bit tired today, you guys rest early, good night."
Everyone looked at the snake egg; Wang Chao was about to send it away, but the people beside him immediately shook their heads.
"Brother Chao, we're leaving, you eat slowly."
Long Fei gave an embarrassed smile: "This has nothing to do with my cooking skills, Wang Chao, you know, I just simply roasted it. Then I'll leave, you eat slowly."
Wang Chao took a deep breath, gritted his teeth and swallowed the snake egg.
"Huh?"
"The taste isn't that bad."
"Fellow Daoist Yan, you said that on purpose?"
"He understands metaphors."
