Chapter 719: Multiple Preparations

Soon after, several assassins from Misty Rain Tower received the news.

"This Yan Buji is a remarkable person."

"It turns out the Youming Jie spiritual materials on the market lately have all been facilitated by him."

"So how should we deal with him? Now the Great Sinful Sect's people have come to Luohuang Zhou to mine ore; not to mention the Void Refinement elders, there's even a Union Dao grand cultivator—just us would hardly be able to handle him."

"Assassins, though they are many, the opposing side is even more numerous."

"We can only try to see if there's a chance to catch them alone."

"Assassins aren't suicide squads; they'd risk their lives to kill the target. Misty Rain Tower does have such people, but the employer's price hasn't reached the point of deploying death squads."

"In that case, several Spirit Infant cultivators began analyzing Yan Buji's intelligence."

"According to the intelligence gathered by Misty Rain Tower, this person came from other major realms to Zhong Tian Zhi Yu several decades ago, then visited the Medicine King's inheritance, went to Long Qi Cheng, and finally joined the Paolong Sacred Land."

"Moreover, with the resurgence of the Great Sinful Sect, he somehow became one of its members."

"Although the assassins realize the relationship between the Great Sinful Sect and the Paolong Sacred Land is unclear, after all this Nascent Soul cultivator's strength is merely average—just a deeper background."

"Such a capable person being sent by the Great Sinful Sect to oversee its mining operation shows he is deeply trusted; thus, if we were to act against him, our chances would be few." The middle-aged cultivator frowned, feeling a bit troubled.

"The trouble isn't how troublesome this guy is; even a mere Nascent Soul, no matter how troublesome, could he defeat the Spirit Infant cultivators present?"

"But the problem is the other side isn't just one person; if this matter alarms others in his sect, just those Void Refinement elders taking action would likely get them killed, let alone a Union Dao cultivator."

"Fortunately, the intelligence shows that the Great Sinful Sect's Union Dao cultivator is currently not with them, so they now need to devise a way to lure the opposing side into acting alone."

"How can we make Yan Buji act alone? Judging by his demeanor, he likely already knows someone will move against him, so he certainly won't walk alone."

"Hmm...."

"This left several Misty Rain Tower cultivators in a dilemma, as they didn't know whether Yan Buji currently had a Void Refinement elder by his side."

"Elsewhere."

"The cultivators of the Major Merchant Guild naturally wouldn't miss such a great opportunity to develop Luohuang Zhou; the Major Merchant Guild likewise purchased an estate in Luohuang Zhou's territory, preparing to undertake a major project."

"Besides some high-level combat power, the people dispatched here naturally include Yun Hua and Zhang Wang!"

"Yun Hua's face was grim as he asked, 'Can those Misty Rain Tower assassins really kill Yan Buji?'"

"Yun Hua knows well that several times he's seen this guy near death, only to inexplicably survive again, leaving Yun Hua feeling uncertain."

"Zhang Wang chuckled: 'You're overestimating Yan Buji; after all, he's merely a Nascent Soul cultivator—even if he practices Martial and Law Dual Cultivation, what of it? He hasn't even broken through Nascent Soul in his mana, so he certainly can't wield any formidable divine abilities! And this time Misty Rain Tower has sent a full six Spirit Infant cultivators—more than enough to deal with him alone.'"

"Then......"

"But they aren't truly lethal moves!"

"Zhang Wang chuckled: 'To deal with someone as cunning as a fox like Yan Buji, one or two methods can't truly harm him. To kill him, at least three preparations are needed!'"

"Yun Hua looked at Zhang Wang in surprise: 'Do you have any other methods?'"

"Hmm. The fact that he used a substitute talisman shows he already guessed we might closely monitor him upon his arrival in Luohuang Zhou and know his movements. This also matches our earlier speculation: he knows Li Wan Hua is feeding us information, so he deliberately released that substitute talisman to probe us." Zhang Wang said.

"Then... could he still be staying in the Garrison King City right now?" Yun Hua frowned.

"Although we could also send Misty Rain Tower's assassins directly to Garrison King City to kill him, if Yan Buji obtained demon clan protection there, once they stir up trouble the Great Sinful Sect's people would surely come to protect him. Now we are taking advantage of the fact that the Great Sinful Sect's people don't yet know Yan Buji will be assassinated to make preparations; otherwise....."

"Yun Hua thought of this and suddenly asked: 'What if Yan Buji tells those Great Sinful Sect elders that he's going to be assassinated?'"

"Impossible." Zhang Wang shook his head.

"Leaving aside that Li Wan Hua's side has sent no news, Yan Buji, being so greedy, wants to settle everything at once; he wouldn't let their sect's elders intervene, or else he'd just let Li Wan Hua off the hook."

"Is that so?"

"You've forgotten that regarding the Youming Realm trade, the Great Sinful Sect's Foreign Trade Hall should originally be his golden goose, yet it fell into Li Wan Hua's hands. Although he supposedly stepped down voluntarily, given his greedy nature, he is bound to want to reclaim the authority of the Foreign Trade Hall legitimately!" Zhang Wang laughed.

"What do you think—would someone like Yan Buji, upon learning we intend to deal with him, shrink back and hide in his sect, avoiding worldly affairs?"

"Yun Hua frowned, thought carefully: 'If he were that kind of person, he wouldn't have come to Luohuang Zhou at all.'"

"Not bad!"

"Zhang Wang chuckled: 'So he might not be unwilling to turn this place into our burial ground; after all, he merely wants to use the information Li Wan Hua conveys to kill us. Thus the Misty Rain Tower assassins are only the first preparation—if they fail to kill him, it doesn't matter. For even if we don't act, Yan Buji will find ways to make us act!'"

"You mean he would deliberately expose a flaw, deliberately act alone? Then why would he release a substitute talisman?"

"Zhang Wang pondered: 'The substitute talisman he bought in the Heavenly Spirit Realm—I have channels to know of it. He only has one substitute talisman.... He used it without regard for the ensuing danger, which shows he definitely has Great Sinful Sect elders protecting him nearby, unafraid of anyone causing him trouble. So he likely only meant to test us; once we act, he'll learn some of our preparations.'"

"Yun Hua nodded: 'Now I understand.'"

"Also fortunate that the Misty Rain Tower people didn't act; otherwise, if he learned that several Spirit Infant cultivators were watching him, he'd surely become even more cautious." Zhang Wang said.

"Yun Hua suddenly realized."

"Feeling that dealing with someone like Yan Buji truly requires finding a clever person to match wits and courage; alone, it's really hard to cope."

"Zhang Wang nodded: 'Alright, you rest first; I need to go out for a bit.'"

"Where to?"

"Since the Great Sinful Sect's business is Vajra ore, representing the Major Merchant Guild to seek out another partner is no problem." Zhang Wang laughed.

"Another one?"

"Not counting as a sect?"
