Chapter 937: Profit Sharing

~7 min read 1,322 words

In the Extermination Demon Department, Lin Qingli sat upright at the desk, lightly tapping the piled‑high storage rings and brocade boxes with her fingertips. These were all the rare resources recently "offered in filial respect" by the elders of various sects, each worth a fortune.

A faint smile curled at the corner of her lips, and a trace of sarcasm flashed in her eyes.

"These old foxes, outwardly solemn, but the moment the wind shifts they all become surprisingly sensible." She casually picked up a storage ring, swept her spirit sense over it, and inside lay neatly arranged thousands of High‑grade Spirit Stones, their light swirling, dazzling.

Outside the window the setting sun sank, stretching her silhouette long. Just as she was about to rise, the hall doors opened silently, and a black shadow drifted in like a ghost.

"Daoist Ji?" Lin Qingli's pupils narrowed, and the storage ring in her hand vanished instantly.

Spiritual energy rippled around her, and the Thirty‑six Sword Intent already gathered in her sleeves, ready to spring.

"Who gave you permission to trespass the Extermination Demon Department?"

The newcomer wore a dark‑coloured robe, his face grim, eyes sunken, a faint smile tugging at the corner of his aged cheek.

He bowed slowly and respectfully, but his gaze was as cold as a poisonous snake.

"Fairy Lin, congratulations on your newfound wealth." Yan Buji's voice was hoarse, like sandpaper rubbing: "But Fairy Lin, have you forgotten something?"

Lin Qingli snorted coldly: "Is it that you're too impatient?"

Yan Buji paced forward unhurriedly, his eyes scanning the remaining treasures on the desk, a flash of greed passing through them. He suddenly reached out, picked up an intricately carved jade box, and opened it gently.

"Nine‑turn Concentration Pill?" he clicked in amazement: "These guys are really generous; the Seven‑turn Celestial Pill is said to heal even the severe internal injuries of a Refinement‑Stage cultivator."

A cold glint flashed in Lin Qingli's eyes: "Put it down."

Yan Buji seemed not to hear, and instead slipped the jade box into his sleeve.

This move made Lin Qingli's complexion turn angry; she sprang to her feet, spiritual energy surging around her like a tide.

"Daoist Ji! You're courting death?!"

Yan Buji remained unruffled, instead flashing a strange smile: "Fairy Lin, why the anger? I'm here today only to reclaim what rightfully belongs to me."

"Your stuff?" Lin Qingli sneered, "These are offerings the elders of various sects presented to the Extermination Demon Department, what do they have to do with you?"

Yan Buji shook his head, sighing: "Fairy Lin, you truly are one who forgets many things. If it weren't for my subordinates' covert arrangements, how could those old foxes so readily present their treasured gifts?"

Lin Qingli's brows twitched slightly: "What do you mean?"

"The Shapeshifting Great Demon on the back mountain of the Mysterious Sky Sect, the 'evidence' in the Celestial Alliance's jade slip, even Elder Dong Feng's sudden rebellion…"

With each sentence Yan Buji took a step forward, "Fairy Lin, do you really think all this is mere coincidence?"

Lin Qingli's heart jolted, yet her expression stayed unchanged: "Absurd! Those pieces of evidence were all collected by me personally, what do they have to do with you?"

Yan Buji burst into a hoarse, unpleasant laugh. He reached into his chest, produced a Retaining Image Stone, and under the drive of spiritual power, scene after scene floated in the air.

The visions showed Yan Buji in secret talks with several disciples of the Mysterious Sky Sect.

He personally handed a bottle of crimson liquid to those disciples, who respectfully received it and turned toward the forbidden area of the back mountain.

"The demon blood was given by me, the plan was devised by me, even those 'eyewitnesses' were arranged by me." Yan Buji smiled.

"You wanted to see my methods, didn't you? So, what have you uncovered?"

Lin Qingli's fingers trembled slightly, her face darkening—just from this, she could not possibly know how Yan Buji accomplished such things.

Those so‑called pieces of evidence, those perfectly timed moments—does Daoist Ji collude with the demon race to achieve this?!

"You…" she said coldly, "What exactly do you want?"

Yan Buji's grin widened: "It's simple. According to our previous agreement, I want seventy percent of these resources."

"Dream on!" Lin Qingli retorted with a furious laugh, "With your petty tricks, you dare threaten me? Believe it or not, I'll make your soul scatter right now!"

Yan Buji, still unhurried, took another letter from his chest and placed it gently on the desk.

"Lord Director, you might as well take a look at this first."

Lin Qingli cautiously unfolded the letter with spiritual energy, glanced at it once, and her complexion changed abruptly.

The letter detailed her multiple meetings with the "demon race emissary," recording dates, locations, and even spiritual‑energy imprints as proof.

"Fabricated!" she shouted.

"Truth or falsehood doesn't matter." Yan Buji said leisurely, "What matters is that if these 'evidence' reach the Celestial Alliance Headquarters, Fairy Lin, do you think they'll believe you or these black‑on‑white 'ironclad' proofs? Let's not even discuss the distant ones—do you really think the Celestial Alliance elders and inspectors could let you off?"

Lin Qingli's chest heaved violently; she stared at Yan Buji, murderous intent boiling in her eyes.

Yet Yan Buji remained as steady as a mountain, even leisurely adjusting his cuff.

"Having said all that, I merely hope to take my share smoothly." He said slowly, "Hand over the resources, and we can all live in peace. Otherwise…"

"At worst, the fish die and the net breaks!" Lin Qingli gritted her teeth, clearly unwilling to surrender the benefits she had gained.

Yan Buji sighed, this woman was too foolish. He paused meaningfully, "The net doesn't break when the fish die; do you think because I'm speaking calmly now you truly think I won't act?"

The hall fell into dead silence; even breathing could be heard clearly.

Lin Qingli's mind raced, weighing pros and cons: if Yan Buji acted, those pieces of evidence would likely already have been released to the public by his men; if she yielded to his threat, she would not only lose face but also fuel his arrogance.

"You think you can blackmail me with just these?" she finally sneered, "I, Lin Qingli, have risen to this position not by being meek."

"Hahaha."

Yan Buji laughed, "I only ask you one question: give or not?"

A terrifyingly extreme aura burst from Yan Buji's body!

Lin Qingli felt a wave of dizziness; she grabbed the desk, her knuckles whitening from the strain.

"Thirty percent." she snarled, "I give you thirty percent, and this ends."

Yan Buji shook his head, sighing, "You still don't understand the current situation." He suddenly withdrew all smiles, his gaze turning cold and dreadful: "I'm not bargaining. Seventy percent, missing even a single Spirit Stone, and those pieces of evidence will appear on the Celestial Alliance's council table today."

Lin Qingli's chest felt like a massive stone pressing down, making breathing difficult.

She had never imagined she would be forced into such a predicament; the resources the elders once bowed to had suddenly become something to hand over.

"Fine…" she finally forced a word out between her teeth, "I give you."

Yan Buji's smile returned, and he bowed: "Consider yourself wise enough."

Lin Qingli mechanically waved her hand, and the storage rings and brocade boxes on the desk flew toward Yan Buji.

He caught each one, inspected them carefully, and satisfied, stored them in his own collection of storage treasures.

"And those in your private stash," Yan Buji pressed on, "don't think I don't know someone secretly also gave a thousand‑year blood ginseng."

Lin Qingli's eyes almost flared with fire, but she knew there was no way back now.

She stiffly turned, took a jade box from a hidden compartment in the inner chamber, and hurled it at Yan Buji.
