Chapter 1335: Who Sets the Rules?
"What is it?"
"The rules." Chief Wang blurted out subconsciously.
But as soon as he finished, he realized something was wrong and secretly regretted it.
"That's right, so you captured the French, brought them to my City Lord Mansion, and showed them to me—isn't it because you want to go out and fight the French and the British to the death?"
Hearing this, Chief Wang's eyes widened in shock as he suddenly looked up at the Indian chiefs behind him.
It was as if he were questioning who had leaked the information.
The other chiefs looked at each other, their faces filled with indignation, wishing they could drag that person out right now.
This was their scheme; if it had been revealed to Qingyang Shuo like this, how could they possibly make a clean break from Longyan City?
This place had shown them great kindness, taking them in and allowing them to live and work in peace in Longyan City, so they wouldn't be hunted down and exterminated by those British and French outside.
That was why they treated this place as a holy land.
"No need to look; no one leaked it."
Qingyang Shuo's voice rang out calmly, but to the five of them, it felt like a thunderbolt.
No one leaked it?!
Then...
It turned out that their thoughts had long been transparent in the eyes of this Longyan City Lord, Qingyang Shuo, and he had known all along.
Qingyang Shuo chuckled: "Do you think I'm not clear about these thoughts of yours?"
Chief Wang and the others were speechless and could only sigh helplessly. Since things had come to this, they didn't intend to hide it anymore and admitted it voluntarily.
"Qingyang Xiansheng, you are right. We admit it, so... we implore you to drive us away. We will absolutely not drag Longyan City down with us."
Hearing this, Qin Zhangfeng roughly understood what was going on, his stern face filled with shock.
He hadn't expected this Chief Wang, who looked so iron-willed and bold, to have such a scheme.
"Fine, you Chief Wang even played me!" Qin Zhangfeng feigned anger and shouted.
But deep down, he felt some relief; with this reason, he could take the opportunity to protect these Indians.
He couldn't just watch them go to their deaths!
He leaned into Qingyang Shuo's ear and whispered: "Qingyang Xiansheng, look, they did this on purpose, still for the sake of Longyan City. Do you think you could let them go?"
Hearing this, Qingyang Shuo immediately shouted: "Let them go?"
"Do you think the rules of my Longyan City are just for show?" Qingyang Shuo glared at Qin Zhangfeng, leaving him speechless.
Seeing this, Chief Wang immediately said: "General Qin, no need to plead for us. Being driven out of Longyan City was our goal to begin with."
"It's just... our children and wives, we will have to trouble General Qin to look after them."
Qin Zhangfeng frowned and glanced at Qingyang Shuo.
Seeing no change on his face, he could only agree. It seemed that these Indian chiefs were determined to go to their deaths.
Chief Wang and the Indians followed the ancient customs of the Longyan side and kowtowed three times to show their gratitude.
Then they stood up and left.
Qin Zhangfeng, a hero who cherished other heroes, watched their backs and said helplessly: "Rest assured, from now on, your children and wives are our Longyan people. Whoever bullies them bullies our Longyan people, and we of Longyan will never stand for it!"
Hearing this, the five chiefs' bodies trembled, but they did not stop and were about to step out of the City Lord Mansion.
But as they reached the door, Qingyang Shuo's voice rang out.
"Stop! Who told you that you could leave?"
The five chiefs were stunned and turned around; the gates of the City Lord Mansion were slammed shut by the Longyan guards.
Qingyang Shuo turned his wheelchair and came over, looking at the five chiefs with an expressionless face.
Qin Zhangfeng followed closely behind, but he didn't understand Qingyang Shuo's meaning either—if he wasn't going to let them go, why not let them leave?
What did that mean?
These few people were stunned; they looked at each other and shook their heads one after another.
Chief Wang frowned and said: "Qingyang Xiansheng, please let us go."
Qingyang Shuo ignored him and instead looked at Qin Zhangfeng beside him and asked.
"Why were you able to kill that Frenchman in the City Lord Mansion?"
Qin Zhangfeng was stunned by the question. A Frenchman had insulted his Longyan people; shouldn't he be killed?
He was so arrogant, too. Thinking of the blood on that guy's hands and his clamoring before death, Qin Zhangfeng felt his anger flare up.
This Frenchman had also killed many Indians; looking back, crushing his head with one foot had been too simple.
"That's because he deserved to die!" Qin Zhangfeng answered straightforwardly.
Qingyang Shuo nodded, then looked at him expressionlessly and asked: "Then do the rules of Longyan City apply to the Longyan people?"
"They apply, otherwise without rules, there is no order—this is what you said yourself." Qin Zhangfeng said without hesitation.
At this moment, he suddenly remembered that Longyan City forbade fighting and brawling.
It seemed he had crushed that Frenchman's head just because the man had cursed him twice.
Damn it!
He looked at Qingyang Shuo in terror, knowing his temper well. Could it be that Qingyang Xiansheng wanted to bring him to justice too?
Qingyang Shuo chuckled, and Qin Zhangfeng forced a smile, but his face was full of awkwardness.
The entire City Lord Mansion fell into a strange, awkward silence.
"General Qin, rules are set by those with the biggest fists. Do you understand?" Qingyang Shuo broke the deadlock and said.
After a few minutes of thought, Qin Zhangfeng indicated that he had learned his lesson, implying that because his fists were big, he could kill that Frenchman.
Qingyang Shuo shook his head and continued: "Did you hear some rumors that led you to take such a desperate measure?"
Chief Wang, having reached this point, did not hide it and nodded: "The French promised us great benefits outside to force us to betray Longyan City and join them in attacking the British."
"If we are unwilling, they say they will use force against Longyan City."
"That is why we planned to leave Longyan City so as not to implicate it, and take our tribe to fight them to the death."
Qin Zhangfeng felt moved; he glanced at the tribal chief and felt deeply ashamed, for just a moment ago, he had been wondering what to do if these Indians rebelled.
Should he kill them now to eliminate future trouble? From his current perspective, that was the best way for the moment.
But he had not expected this group of Indian chiefs to have such deep feelings for Longyan City, to the point of being willing to sacrifice their lives.
He had been wrong...
"As expected." Qingyang Shuo nodded; it was the same as the information he had received.
He looked at the five Indian chiefs and said, "Now that Longyan has long since declared war on France and Britain, our rules should also be changed."
Hearing this, Qin Zhangfeng's eyes lit up; he had long heard about the matters in the Mediterranean Sea, and he had long found Britain and France to be eyesores.
The hatred between their Longyan and Britain had existed for a long time, not to mention France, ever since they arrived in America.
Qin Zhangfeng hated this group of French thugs even more, to the very marrow of his bones.
He wished he could go to the battlefield right now and wipe out this group of hateful colonists.
"So, does this mean we are going to war?"
Qingyang Shuo did not answer his question, but instead looked at the five Indian chiefs and revealed a meaningful smile.
