Chapter 1386: The Deal
That place was originally Britain's largest slave transport hub, but that has been the case for some time now.
These Indians are not content; there is always a possibility of them rebelling.
The current Britain has no time to send troops to suppress these Indians, and these people hate the colonists to the bone.
Even if the Longyan were to occupy that place, the situation would likely not change much.
Moreover, that place is accessible from all directions, and incidents of the French going there to snatch Indians have already occurred.
Britain knows this, but has never cared, and even expresses indifference toward it.
Indians are plentiful in America; they are merely slaves, after all.
"Fine, it is settled then. Two pieces of land in exchange for two Longyan Cannons!" Captain Gelin agreed immediately.
Watching Qingyang Shuo look as if he had suffered a great loss, he felt incomparably happy inside.
Two pieces of trash land he had long wanted to abandon were finally given away today, and he even got two Longyan Cannons in return.
With these two Longyan Cannons, is there any fear of not being able to take the gold vein?
French, just wait and see; watch how Britain turns this jungle war into an artillery war!
Captain Gelin had already imagined the sight of those Frenchmen fleeing in panic under his artillery fire.
Captain Gelin took another look at the elderly, twilight-years Qingyang Shuo, and chuckled inwardly at this Longyan man who looked old enough to be his grandfather.
The City Lord of Longyan City—he wondered if the old man's brain had gone bad, to actually agree to such a deal.
Once we, Britain, cripple the French, this Longyan City of yours might even be destroyed by your own hands.
Destroyed by your own Longyan Cannons.
"Since the deal has been reached, let us sign and seal it, and draw up the written agreement," Qingyang Shuo said indifferently.
"Good, good, good."
Captain Gelin replied with an excited face and immediately took out the file documents he had prepared long ago.
Qingyang Shuo also gave orders for his servant to bring paper and draft this contract document.
The two exchanged them.
Qingyang Shuo looked at the file written by the British; it was actually over twenty pages long. Fortunately, Qingyang Shuo had learned the British language and some other European languages over the past few years.
He could understand these documents.
But Captain Gelin was a bit bewildered.
The contract document written by Qingyang Shuo was only one page, with a mere few hundred words, yet he, a half-baked speaker of the Longyan Language, could not quite understand it.
"Sir, this..." Captain Gelin asked awkwardly.
Qingyang Shuo glanced at him, his cloudy old eyes seeing Captain Gelin's embarrassed predicament, and said impatiently: "In this deal, we, Longyan, have already suffered a loss. If you don't trust it, go call someone of yours who understands the Longyan Language."
Captain Gelin was even more embarrassed; among the people he brought, he was the only one who could be considered proficient in the Longyan Language.
If he wanted to swap for someone else, he would have to have them!
Qingyang Shuo said impatiently: "Are you signing or not?"
Captain Gelin weighed the pros and cons, fearing that Qingyang Shuo might go back on his word, but he truly could not understand this contract document.
If he signed it blindly, what if Longyan used this contract document to cause him trouble later?
He still had to be cautious.
"Sir, this is too troublesome. How about this, let us each add one sentence to our respective documents..."
"Britain trades two colonies for two Longyan Cannons, never to go back on the word, effective immediately!"
Qingyang Shuo smiled and looked at Captain Gelin.
"Fine."
Qingyang Shuo added this sentence to his contract document, and Captain Gelin also wrote it on his own draft.
The two looked them over, signed and sealed both files, and exchanged their contract documents, signifying that this business was done.
Qingyang Shuo sighed and murmured: "This time, for the sake of Longyan, this is the most losing deal I have ever made."
Captain Gelin, however, was beaming, chuckling: "Sir, you cannot say it like that. You have obtained two large pieces of land, and there is even an Iron Mine inside. We are the ones who lost out."
Qingyang Shuo snorted coldly and waved his hand to shoo him away.
Captain Gelin knew he had taken advantage and that Qingyang Shuo was still in a temper, so he hurried away. When he reached the door, he said: "Sir, when will you transport the Longyan Cannons to us?"
A roar suddenly came from inside Qingyang Shuo's room: "Three days later!"
Captain Gelin calculated—three days was a bit long—so he immediately said: "Tomorrow, then."
"The day after tomorrow, or else I will tear up this contract!" Qingyang Shuo said through gritted teeth.
Hearing this roar, Captain Gelin knew that if he did not leave, this hard-won business might fall through, so he turned and left.
He hurried back to his room and sent someone to tell Kelinxi this good news.
As for Qingyang Shuo in the room, once Captain Gelin had left, a smile immediately appeared on his face.
"Heh heh, I really found a treasure." Qingyang Shuo could not help but laugh out loud.
With these two pieces of land, Longyan now has a place to train troops, and strategic materials like iron are also secured.
However, the Longyan Cannons have to be transported out the day after tomorrow...
Qingyang Shuo frowned. Wan Shang and Fang Dalong had not been gone long; he did not know how their progress was going.
Wan Shang and Fang Dalong disguised themselves as merchants from Longyan and arrived in France.
They had already received the urgent message sent by Qingyang Shuo regarding the transport of the Longyan Cannons.
Although the relationship between France and Longyan was not harmonious, and France was even very annoyed that Longyan had announced they were not allowed to trade in Longyan City.
Cutting off their connection with their homeland.
Leaving them trapped on the American continent like caged beasts.
However, Longyan merchants who are willing to come to France to do business are very popular in France.
These merchants are mostly traitors who secretly resell Longyan supplies, and the French naturally welcome these merchants very much.
Although they only buy some small trinkets, such as some Soap and the like, they are all very good commodities.
Although they are a bit expensive, they are just so useful.
But how could they know just how low the cost of these trinkets really is.
Nor have they ever thought about whether these people were able to come here under the instruction of Qingyang.
However, these French people will probably never know in this lifetime.
Wanshang and Fang Dalong are two Longyan merchants who often trade in France, and they always buy good things and are generous people.
They are very popular, and after Wanshang and Fang Dalong easily entered the French colony.
Many merchants, upon meeting them, opened their mouths to greet them: "Oh, dear friends, you have finally arrived here; what good things have you brought this time?"
A French person made an exaggerated gesture to show his friendliness.
Wanshang and Fang Dalong saw that this person was a very famous merchant in France, though this fame did not refer to his business dealings.
He basically loses money in every business deal, except for the bit of money he can make by relying on Wanshang and Fang Dalong.
This is also the reason why he likes these two people from Longyan.
His fame is because he has quite a few connections with high-ranking French officials.
His name is unremarkable, but his surname is a bit interesting: Richard, full name Richard Auslige.
"Oh, dear Ausilige, I am here to send my greetings to your father, and your mother."
