Chapter 1439: Adventure
"We cannot leave," General Ling Chen said calmly.
"Although there is no immediate danger, the Austrian provisions are enough to tempt us; it is worth the risk."
Ling Chen felt the mountain wind after the rain in the Alps; it was still blowing, and quite boisterous at that.
It remains to be seen whether any results will be uncovered tonight.
Whether those Austrians will come to launch a sneak attack tonight.
"Maintain strict vigilance; I hope all of this is just my speculation," Ling Chen said solemnly.
The priest happened to learn that the Austria Jun were transporting provisions here; this matter was far too suspicious.
There are no coincidences without a cause; that is what Ling Chen believes. M..
Night fell, and the Dragon Flame Army existed as if they were not there within the silent, dark valley.
Fortunately, however, it was a rare clear sky after the mountain rain.
There was still moonlight, but in the mountain stream, the moonlight was blocked by towering trees and was very faint, only enough to see the general outlines in the darkness.
Ling Chen led the priest, moving and walking through the mountain stream with the help of the faint moonlight.
Not far into the valley, they stopped; this was the place where the Austrians transported their provisions.
Ling Chen frowned; such a distance was illogical. Although this path was very hidden, it was extremely close to the hiding place of the Protestants.
As long as the Protestants walked a little further, they could find it.
"Priest, you might not have discovered the Austrians transporting provisions by mere chance back then."
"Rather, it was they who wanted you to discover it," Ling Chen said in a low voice.
The priest's face turned panicked; although he was not skilled in leading troops in battle, he was not someone who understood nothing.
Under Ling Chen's reminder, the priest finally realized that he had been used.
These Protestants had been used.
And he had been unaware of it, even feeling somewhat smug about obtaining the important information regarding the Austrian provision transport.
He had not expected that all of this was within the opponent's calculations.
After the Protestant uprising was defeated, there was only one path of retreat: to come to the Alps.
In the mountains, the Catholics did indeed reduce their pursuit of them; after all, there were also many dangers within the Alps.
A moment of carelessness would lead to total destruction.
And they, the Protestants, only found a glimmer of survival because they possessed Diana, who knew the Geography of the Alps by heart.
But they never expected that all of this was in the eyes of the opponent, and that the opponent had even anticipated it long ago.
Ling Chen inspected this stretch of road, reaching out to touch the soil; there was very little vegetation on this path.
It was mostly mountain rock, yet it was unusually smooth and had no moss.
It looked as if many people walked along this path.
Ling Chen concluded that whether this mountain path was the Austrian provision transport route was still unknown, but people definitely came here often.
A mountain path where no one had been would definitely not be in this state; the mountain path should have been covered in moss, but there was none here.
"Hmm, it looks like this is indeed a transport route, and it hasn't been abandoned yet," Ling Chen nodded; this could be considered of some value.
It could also be considered a discovery.
But since he knew this was a trap set by the enemy, it was time to root out those enemies.
Ling Chen looked at the priest and asked: "Why did you want to enter this valley in the first place, and how exactly did you discover the Austria Jun were transporting provisions at that time?"
"Think carefully about the details; this is very important!"
The priest thought for a while and said in a low voice: "After our Insurgent Army was crushed by the Catholics and the Austria Jun, we were trapped in an encirclement. We fought our way out, and our group retreated to the Alps."
"At that time, Diana had already told us she knew the terrain of the Alps, and it was she who led us to survive in the Alps."
"But facing the Catholic pursuit in the mountains, the General who fought a path to survival begged Diana to find a place where we could recuperate."
Ling Chen listened quietly, analyzing the matters within; the most likely person now was Diana.
"Later, was it Diana who led you to find this valley?" Ling Chen asked.
The priest shook his head: "No, it was the General who led our uprising, and I only discovered this small path under her guidance."
A look of terror flashed across the priest's eyes, and his face sank!
"Oh no, the camp is in danger!"
Ling Chen had known this long ago, but what concerned him more was another matter.
Ling Chen's expression turned cold; if the General who led the Protestants in battle was that traitor.
Then this valley had long been known clearly by the enemy army; perhaps the enemy had already set an ambush.
"If that General is a traitor, it seems the enemy attack will be tonight!" Ling Chen said coldly.
The priest's face changed; the General who led them to fight their way out of the enemy's heavy encirclement was a traitor!
This was impossible!
This was absolutely impossible!
The powerful shock caused the priest's face to twist hideously, and he repeated in his mouth: "This is absolutely impossible, how could he betray the Lord!"
Ling Chen glanced at the priest; a friend who had shared trials and tribulations had suddenly betrayed them.
Such a feeling was not easy for anyone to bear.
But there was no time for the priest to buffer now; they had to rush back, and now that they knew who the traitor was.
Then the subsequent matters would become much easier to resolve.
In the valley, inside a natural karst cave.
The Protestants fell into a deep sleep in the bone-chilling karst cave, yet they were haunted by nightmares.
Diana could not fall asleep; instead, like a night watchman, she prayed silently, hoping the Lord would allow them to embrace sweet dreams.
Whether it was because her prayers had an effect, or because there was a sense of security from the Longyan Army outside the camp, the Protestants slept exceptionally soundly that night.
A bonfire was still lit in the dark karst cave, and at this moment, Diana saw a figure quietly rise and walk toward the depths of the cave.
Diana glanced at him and recognized who this person was; he was the one who led them to break out of the encirclement by Catholicism and the Austrian Army.
The general who brought them hope and light.
Not knowing what the general was doing so late, Diana thought for a moment; this general had become reticent ever since all his subordinates had died.
He no longer possessed his former heroism and ruggedness.
Perhaps she should also have a conversation with this general to let him set his mind at ease; with the Longyan Army here, the Protestants would certainly be fine.
Diana followed him and called out, "General, what are you going to do?"
Upon hearing Diana's voice, the general's body stiffened abruptly, his hair standing on end; after struggling to turn his head and seeing it was Diana, he let out a sigh of relief.
The general began to think; Diana was exceptionally familiar with the terrain of the Alps and Prussia.
If he handed her over to Catholicism or the Austria Jun, he could earn another fortune.
Thinking of this, the general revealed a smile, while behind his back, he hid a sharp Dagger.
"Oh, so it's you, Diana."
