Chapter 1798: Entering the Game
Prince Soubise hurried back to the Holy Cross Army headquarters in a state of great anxiety.
He immediately summoned his trusted Chief of Staff.
"I need to know the exact figure of how many Gold Coins I have left in my assets in Hanover."
Prince Soubise said anxiously.
The Chief of Staff was taken aback, not knowing what Prince Soubise intended to do, but he still followed Prince Soubise's order and quickly took inventory of his assets.
Before long, the Chief of Staff came before Prince Soubise with the detailed information.
"General, you currently have three thousand Gold Coins, thirty thousand Silver Coins, and two properties in Hanover..."
Such wealth would be considered a massive fortune to anyone.
But after hearing this, Prince Soubise frowned.
This money was far from enough.
"If I sell the properties now, how much are they worth?"
The Chief of Staff frowned and asked skeptically, "General, your properties would fetch a sky-high price in peacetime, but if you sell them now, the price will be too low."
"It is not worth it."
Prince Soubise turned to look at him and said indifferently, "I know, but that is irrelevant to the question I asked you."
"Tell me, if I sell these two properties today, how many Gold Coins can I get in exchange?"
The Chief of Staff hesitated for a moment, but still said, "You could probably get about one thousand Gold Coins; one day is too rushed, and it will cause your assets to shrink rapidly."
Prince Soubise's brow was tightly furrowed as he muttered to himself, "This is not enough either; it is still far too short."
"How much of our available assets can we still move?"
"I am talking about the military funds!"
The Chief of Staff said urgently, "The military funds cannot be touched! We have been cut off from supplies by the Longyan Army, and this money is all meant for purchasing supplies from the merchants in the city."
"If we touch this money, our troops will face major problems."
"It is even possible that they will collapse because of it."
"When that time comes, not only will this city be lost, but it might even doom the entire Holy Cross Army."
Prince Soubise looked at him coldly.
"This..." The Chief of Staff's voice came to an abrupt halt; he knew he had spoken out of turn.
Prince Soubise pointed at him and said coldly, "Remember, who is it that you owe your current position to!"
The Chief of Staff lowered his head, expressing his submission to Prince Soubise.
Prince Soubise
naturally knew that these military funds were extremely precious; they had been looted from Prague in the first place.
If this money were gone, their troops would very likely fall into great chaos.
However, he had already thought of a countermeasure.
The most urgent task now was to raise ten thousand Gold Coins; according to the rebates Blinken mentioned, this money would yield a seven percent return in one month.
And this was a joint-stock system.
With these shares, once the project started, the capital he invested would flow back rapidly.
It would only take a very short amount of time.
"General, the only military funds we can currently move amount to ten thousand Gold Coins."
"But no one knows how much longer this Protracted War will last."
"Our supplies have only just eased up, and who knows when the Longyan Army might launch a counterattack; at that time, we will be in extreme danger."
Prince Soubise had only those ten thousand Gold Coins on his mind and did not listen to the Chief of Staff's advice at all.
"Ten thousand Gold Coins!"
"That is perfect. Withdraw all of this money; I have things to do," Prince Soubise said indifferently.
The Chief of Staff reminded him once more, "General, are you sure you want to use these military funds?"
"Yes, take my three thousand Gold Coins and temporarily use them as military funds for this period," Prince Soubise confirmed again.
The Chief of Staff did not stop him further.
Soon, Prince Soubise brought this money to the Saint Luo Hotel.
More than ten thousand Gold Coins filled three wooden crates.
Upon seeing these Gold Coins, Blinken's eyes were filled with panic; he had never intended to sell these shares to Prince Soubise.
That was why he had set such a high price—a full ten thousand Gold Coins.
He truly had not expected Prince Soubise to be able to scrape the money together and deliver it in such a short time.
Prince Soubise looked at Blinken and chuckled.
"Mr. Blinken, I think we can sign the contract now."
Prince Soubise straightened his clothes to make himself look like a successful Noble and walked into the hotel.
Blinken followed closely behind.
Sitting in the same spot as before, Prince Soubise no longer showed any of his previous impatience.
He leisurely sipped the premium Longyan Tea from the Saint Luo Hotel.
Blinken, however, had a face full of sorrow as
the bank personnel he had hired finished counting the Gold Coins.
"Sir, it is exactly ten thousand Gold Coins, no more and no less."
Hearing this, Blinken felt as if he had been sentenced to death; he could not catch his breath.
He forced a smile and said, "Your Highness, you are truly a man of your word."
Prince Soubise chuckled and made a gesture of invitation.
Blinken understood the meaning of Prince Soubise, and he took that document out from his briefcase again.
This time, Prince Soubise only gave it a rough glance before signing his name on it.
"Mr. Blinken, happy cooperation."
"You will be glad you cooperated with me," Prince Soubise said, extending his left hand with arrogant confidence.
Blinken shook his hand reluctantly and nodded: "Happy cooperation, His Highness the Prince."
"In one month, you will receive your return."
Prince Soubise laughed heartily; although it was only seven percent for the first month, it would be twenty percent for the second month, and he also had the joint-stock dividends.
This money would be recouped very quickly, and Prince Soubise left, feeling smug and satisfied.
But Blinken appeared extremely dejected.
He sighed and decided to tell Ling Chen about this matter after all.
Ling Chen soon received Blinken's reply.
Seeing that Prince Soubise had bought ten thousand Gold Coins worth of joint-stock, he laughed heartlessly.
This company was originally fabricated, and as for the gold mine, while it did exist, the current chaotic situation in America meant no one could develop it at all.
This whole thing was a scam, intended solely to cause the economy of the Holy Cross Army to collapse.
Now seeing that Prince Soubise had entered the trap, Ling Chen was incredibly excited.
Seeing that Ling Chen's plan had succeeded, Diana was also very happy: "General, it is time to close the net; the finances of the Holy Cross Army will definitely collapse."
But Ling Chen waved his hand: "No rush, the matter is not over yet."
"Prince Soubise still has a Method to circulate these ten thousand Gold Coins."
"If we want to thoroughly defeat the Holy Cross Army and those Nobles, this matter must continue."
Ling Chen stared into the distance with eyes like a Falcon, as if he could see how the trap he had constructed was step by step thoroughly disintegrating and destroying the Holy Cross Army.
By the time the Holy Cross Army knows everything, it will be too late!
