Chapter 1883: Operational Advantage

~7 min read 1,310 words

The French troops completely lost their operational advantage.

The only way they could maintain an advantage was by using the Indian Troops as cannon fodder, while they, the French, carried out sneak attacks from behind.

But this tactic has now completely lost its effectiveness against the British troops; their troops no longer have any Method to fight the French troops in this way.

The French troops suffered heavy casualties, and under these circumstances, in order to maintain their troop strength, the French general had to adjust his command.

He recalled even the remaining Indian Troops, and the direct consequence of doing so was that the French troops were unable to block the British troops' advance.

This gave the British troops a direct opportunity to storm the city.

Although the Cannon had already been destroyed by the French troops, it did not make General Astimo feel that the city walls were difficult to breach.

He had never believed that the sturdiness of the Cariyongbao city walls could be breached in a short time by those Cannon.

"Bring up the siege equipment, crossbowmen provide cover!"

Perhaps influenced by the Longyan Army, the British Siege Engine also included Scaling Ladder built of wood as high as the city walls, leading the soldiers to storm the city.

There were also more covert Flying Shuttle, which involved firing a hook with a rope attached to the enemy's city wall, allowing soldiers to climb up along the rope.

Longyan also had similar Siege Engine.

Although this type of Siege Engine was covert, once discovered by the enemy, it was not as difficult to destroy as a Scaling Ladder and could easily be destroyed by the enemy soldiers.

And the soldiers who were climbing the Flying Shuttle would definitely fall to the ground and die.

While ordering his troops to attack from the front, General Astiman also had troops lurk on the left and right flanks.

Siege warfare is a technical skill; mass-producing troops is a last resort.

Doing this would result in huge losses, so General Astiman ordered his soldiers to dig a pit and pile up unexploded explosives under the city walls of Cariyongbao.

Boom—

Cariyongbao shook violently, and the French general felt something was wrong and hurriedly asked: "What happened? The British should not have any Cannonballs left to attack us now."

"Reporting to the General, the western wall has collapsed, and the British troops are attacking from there!"

The French general was stunned, his brows furrowed tightly as he roared: "Quickly send troops to hold them off!"

The soldier did not move, looked at the French general and said: "There are no more troops available to mobilize."

"Then mobilize my Guard Unit!"

"You must intercept the British troops outside the city wall."

"General, the Guard Unit is here to protect your safety; if they are moved away, what will happen to your safety?"

The French general grabbed his collar, his eyes staring fixedly at him.

The soldier had never looked at the French general's face from such a close distance; he watched the ferocity gradually rising on the French general's face as the other party said in a deep voice: "If the British soldiers rush in, what do I need these guards for!"

The French general shoved him away, took the opportunity to glance at the staff in his operational command room, and said in a deep voice: "Cariyongbao is an important path that can cut off the connection between the two British armies; we absolutely cannot let the British troops take it."

"Guard Unit, you must hold that breach!"

The French general's Guard Unit set off.

As the person with the highest military rank in Cariyongbao, his Guard Unit was even equipped with Musket.

When the Guard Unit arrived at the breach, the British soldiers were trying to widen it; they wanted to let more British soldiers pour in.

The Guard Unit fired quickly; the French Musket could fire three times a minute during combat at its fastest.

There was a twenty-second gap in between, and they lined up to fire densely just to intercept these British troops.

But without the cover of Infantry and Shield Soldier, this twenty-second gap was fatal for them.

The British soldiers braved the damage from the Musket and forcibly broke through the Guard Unit's defense.

Almost at the same time, other battles on the battlefield also showed an irreversible advantage.

The Scaling Ladder approached the city walls of Cariyongbao, and the British soldiers quickly climbed the walls; the already exhausted and depleted French army had no intention of continuing to fight when faced with the British troops who had already scaled the walls.

Once the British troops climbed the walls, it was difficult for them to continue resisting; their advantage was clearly based on the sturdiness of Cariyongbao.

But now, the sturdy Cariyongbao could no longer help them withstand the continuing advance of the British troops.

General Astimo observed through his Telescope that their British troops had already appeared on the walls of Cariyongbao, and the corners of his mouth curled up into a smile.

He squeezed the horse's back with his legs, and the War Horse carried Astimo forward; he said lightly: "Let's go, let's see who the French general of Cariyongbao is."

His Deputy followed behind.

By the time General Astimo arrived, the battle was almost over.

The French troops on the city walls had already been routed, and now all that remained were the French troops still putting up a desperate resistance inside Cariyongbao.

But the city walls of Cariyongbao had already been breached, and the British soldiers rushing in were endless.

The defeat of the French troops was only a matter of time; they had been pushed to the end of their rope.

General Astimo ignored the British soldiers on the ground, whether dead or alive, and walked faster and faster.

The French general seemed more important than these wounded soldiers.

Taking three steps in two, Astimo arrived outside a room and saw the remaining French soldiers guarding the outside of this room.

It was not hard for Astimo to guess that the person inside might be the French general.

Astimo said indifferently: "I will give you a chance now; if you choose to surrender, I can spare your lives."

The French soldiers looked at General Astimo and were silent for several seconds.

Finally, they heard the sound of someone throwing their weapon to the ground; they could no longer endure this feeling in the face of death.

A tight morale dissipated and could no longer be gathered.

"We surrender... we surrender!"

One of the French soldiers shouted dejectedly.

Astimo glanced at him and nodded: "Hmm, good, a wise choice."

The British soldiers rushed up and took control of these French troops who had laid down their arms and surrendered.

And General Astiman entered the room they were guarding at this moment.

He saw a man lying inside the room with a sword stuck in his body, and he saw that he was wearing the uniform of a French general.. ghxsw.

General Astiman glanced at him indifferently and turned to leave.

His Deputy looked at this dead French general, let out a low laugh, and mocked: "Is this the mettle of the French army? Knowing they've lost, they commit suicide?"

General Astiman did not comment on the Deputy's remark; he turned and left, arriving before the French Soldier who had been the first to drop his weapon and the first to announce his surrender.

The French Soldier looked up at General Astiman, then hurriedly lowered his head.

General Astiman sneered, his gaze locked firmly onto the soldier's face, and said indifferently: "A French general shouldn't need to do something like this to survive."

The soldier being stared at by General Astiman stiffened, then raised his head to look into General Astiman's eyes.
