Chapter 2011: Bizarrely Hit by Bullets

~7 min read 1,299 words

It was not just Shawn who felt suspicious when the French Soldier acting as a cannon operator was hit and killed.

Smith also sensed something strange, and soon a military report came from the front.

"Report, General, our cannon operator was suddenly hit and killed, but we haven't found where the Insurgent Army's shooter is."

Smith was stunned, and his Deputy was even more horrified.

This was the first time such a situation had occurred.

Even the Insurgent Army was using their Weaponry and Equipment, and the range was the same.

At this current distance, the cannon operator should not and could not have been attacked by the Insurgent Army.

This was something that exceeded their thoughts and imagination.

Moreover, that was not the most important thing; what was more critical was that the cannon operator was hit by the opponent every single time, which meant that at a distance of two hundred meters, the opponent could still maintain an ultra-high hit rate.

Even Longyan's Musket could not do such a thing!

"No, impossible, there must be a mole in our troops. Send another unit to guard the cannon operators; don't let other soldiers get close!"

The messenger soldier looked at the cold-faced Smith.

Smith said indifferently: "Do as he says."

"Yes!"

The cannon operators were protected by a group of French Soldier to prevent them from suddenly being hit and killed.

But Smith's expression was somewhat complex; a mole suddenly appearing during battle was a huge blow to any unit.

What was more critical was that they still had no way of knowing who the mole was.

This would shake the morale of the army.

Fortunately, it was a mole; if it were truly Nashadier's troops who had mastered such a long-range weapon, then it would be disastrous.

Just as Smith thought that doing this had stopped the mole's actions, the sound of gunfire rang out once again.

The French Soldier responsible for protecting the reconnaissance did not see where the Bullet was fired from at all, and once again, a vital part of a cannon operator was hit.

The soldier reported in a panic: "Report, General, it has started, it has started again!"

Smith's eye twitched: "What has started!"

"Our cannon operators have started being hit and killed again!"

Smith hurriedly picked up the Telescope to look at the battlefield and discovered that the distance between their cannon operators and the Insurgent Army's Infantry on the battlefield was already very far, exceeding two hundred meters!

But even under such circumstances, their cannon operators were still continuously suffering casualties.

A trace of fear rose in Smith's heart.

"Could there really be a ghost wandering on this battlefield!"

The Deputy shouted: "Absolutely impossible!"

He gritted his teeth and stared at the battlefield, at a point of light that had just flashed, and said in a deep voice: "The enemy force has very likely mastered a combat weapon we are unaware of."

"Possessing an ultra-strong attack range!"

Hearing this, they all fell into silence.

The fear in Smith's eyes could no longer be concealed as it emerged, if it were truly as his Deputy said.

Then they would have no chance of winning in this battle.

It could even be said that they were just waiting to die!

"Such a thing is absolutely impossible. The Insurgent Army is only equipped with our French troops' weapons. We don't even have such weapons, how could the Insurgent Army possess them!"

The Deputy sneered in response to his superior's ignorance, and he said in a deep voice: "This is the most reasonable and most likely thing."

"Do not think that all our information is true."

"After all, there is still information we do not know, information that has not been intercepted."

The Deputy did not continue; he looked at the battlefield, beginning to think about whether the point of light he had just seen flash by was indeed the weapon he imagined.

Smith, being lectured by his subordinate, was very unhappy and questioned: "Are you saying that the Insurgent Army has mastered weapons that we don't even have?"

"Then what is it, and how did they master it?"

Smith stared at the Deputy; if it weren't for the fact that he still needed him to fight the war, Smith would have wanted to kill him just for the act of contradicting his superior.

The Deputy looked at his superior and said: "The Insurgent Army is a force built and promoted by Jiang Xuan. Do you think Nashadier would only use our weapons?"

"Did Jiang Xuan not give them Longyan's weapons?"

Smith sneered: "Longyan's Musket has a maximum shooting range of only two hundred meters. Do you think Longyan's weapons could attack our cannon operators?"

"And this is a battlefield where the distance interval is almost exceeding two hundred meters, and the opponent can still maintain the precision of a Musket at such a distance!"

"Even if it were Longyan, would they have such a weapon!"

The Deputy took a deep breath, sighed, and said: "Longyan might have it. After all, their level of technology has already surpassed ours by too much. What kind of weapons they have is not something we can guess."

Hearing this, Smith also fell silent.

He also did not know how to refute his Deputy.

Although he did not want to admit it, he could only accept this fact with extreme humiliation, using silence to express his attitude.

The Deputy stared at the battlefield; if this continued, their Artillery Unit would have no one left to use.

The Deputy thought for a long time; in his mind, the only Method was to find the opponent's troops and attack that unit to stop them from continuing their assault.

But now, it was impossible to find such a unit, let alone talk about attacking them.

After thinking for a long time, the Deputy sighed and said: "Order the cannon operators to retreat, use the Cavalry unit to advance, and suppress the Insurgent Army's firepower..."

He knew that this approach was treating the symptoms but not the root cause; the core problem was not solved, and their fire points would still be attacked by the opponent's troops.

The Deputy used the Cavalry unit to suppress the enemy's firepower because he wanted to utilize the Cavalry unit's superior mobility on the battlefield.

With such capability, a Musket is not necessarily easy to use.

Nashadier's troops saw the French troops order their Cavalry unit to change their attack and press toward their own troops, laughed, and secretly praised this as a clever move.

Seeing the opponent deploy a Cavalry unit, Shawn looked at Nashadier and said fervently, "Quickly have your mysterious unit wipe out these cavalrymen as well."

Nashadier: "..."

"That unit is equipped with Longyan's Sniper Musket; although it possesses an ultra-high hit rate, when facing a Cavalry unit, there is simply no Method to aim, and the hit rate is not even as good as a Repeating Rifle!"

Hearing this, Shawn was speechless.

But the next instant, having recovered his senses, he asked blankly, "Longyan's Sniper Musket, how could our unit have this thing!"

Nashadier looked at Shawn: "Naturally, it is aid given to us by the Longyan Army; you didn't really think our unit had no aid from the Longyan Army all this time, did you?"

"If not for the aid of Jiang Xuan, how would I have been able to assemble the unit."

Shawn slapped his forehead and suddenly realized; when Nashadier first rose to prominence here and assembled the unit to attack Ian, it had been very strange.

It was clearly just a group of idle troops, so why were they able to possess the ability to rival the elite French troops.

So all the mysteries lay in this!
