Chapter 101: Killing in the Dense Forest
Feiying let out a cold snort, flipped off the carriage, and drew the long sword from his waist, its cold light flickering. Feiyan also appeared from nowhere, her twin swords flashing with cold light. The two fought side by side, their figures like ghosts; wherever their sword light reached, blood splattered, and the men in black fell one after another.
Jun Zijin held a dagger in one hand and a tranquilizer gun in the other. Like an elegant leopard, she strolled through the battlefield. Her dagger rose and fell, slicing across enemies' throats without a hint of hesitation. With her other hand, she fired the tranquilizer gun repeatedly, and her targets collapsed before they could even react.
Feiying had seen Jun Zijin fight before, so he understood. But for Feiyan and Guazi, it was their first time. They could not fathom how Jun Zijin’s movements, which appeared slow, could exert such an indescribable sense of pressure. How did she manage to make every strike fatal, ruthless yet elegant?
Feiying looked at their astonished expressions and felt a surge of pride. He had once said that the girl’s martial arts were extraordinary, but they hadn't believed him and insisted on betting with him. Now that they had seen it, shouldn't they admit they had lost? Fifty taels of silver—not a single coin less—he would gladly accept.
Jun Zijin and Guazi coordinated perfectly; in the close-quarters combat, the enemies fell like harvested wheat.
"Master, watch out!" Feiyan suddenly shouted, seeing a man in black launching a sneak attack from the side, his long sword aimed straight at Jun Zijin’s back.
Without turning her head, Jun Zijin fired her gun backward, the tranquilizer needle striking the man in black squarely in the face. He groaned and slumped to the ground.
The enemy secretly lamented, unable to fathom how dozens of men were being suppressed by these two men and two women.
In just a few minutes, the ground was littered with the corpses of the men in black. Just as the battle was nearing its end, Jun Zijin and the others all sensed a murderous aura erupting from the dense forest.
"Whoosh." Two sharp arrows flew out from the dense forest; one shot toward Jun Zijin, and the other toward Feiying, who was being engaged by several men, both coming with fierce momentum.
Jun Zijin frowned at this—it was tracking archery! But the skill was a bit green. A faint smirk tugged at her lips. As she dodged to the side, she raised her hand, and the dagger in her grip flew out. With a metallic clang, the arrow aimed at Feiying was deflected and embedded into the carriage frame behind him.
The arrow aimed at Jun Zijin grazed her sleeve. As she bent and dodged, she quickly pulled another dagger from the strap on her calf.
Feiying, who had been pinned down by several men in black, felt a sense of relief and gave Jun Zijin a grateful look. Jun Zijin did not respond. She stood in the center of the battlefield, her gaze like a torch, the dagger in her hand glinting in the sunlight. Her eyes were locked onto the depths of the forest, a cold sneer curling her lips.
"Since you dare to show yourselves, why hide?" Jun Zijin called out loudly. Her voice was cold and firm, echoing through the dense forest.
However, the forest remained silent, as if the arrows from before had been a mere hallucination.
"Whoosh." Another sound of air being pierced rang out. Two more arrows shot from the forest toward Jun Zijin, their speed so fast that it was hard to react. Jun Zijin frowned slightly and flashed aside, avoiding the arrows, though a shallow tear was left on her sleeve.
Deep in the dense forest, the wind swept through, and the leaves rustled.
Just then, the last man in black fell, and Feiyan’s figure darted out like lightning, heading straight for the forest. Jun Zijin stared, deciding once again that she must learn light-foot skills. She had no time to dwell on it; worried for Feiyan’s safety, she quickly cut the reins attached to the carriage, leaped up, and landed steadily on the horse's back.
The sound of hooves was rapid as Jun Zijin galloped in hot pursuit of Feiyan. Feiying and Guazi followed closely behind, flanking Jun Zijin to protect her as she raced forward.
Feiyan dashed into the forest. It was terrifyingly quiet, the light dim and the tree shadows dancing as if countless eyes were watching from the dark. A murderous chill permeated the air.
Suddenly, her foot triggered a thin wire, and several sharp spikes sprang out from the surroundings. Feiyan was agile, flipping in the air to dodge them. At the same time, a black shadow swooped down from a tree, a long blade thrusting toward her. Feiyan blocked with her sword, sending sparks flying.
Suddenly, two more black shadows swooped down from the trees, lunging straight at Feiyan! Their moves were tricky and vicious, making it difficult for Feiyan to dodge completely.
Feiyan was struggling to fight three opponents at once; it was clear that these men, whether in skill or internal energy, were far superior to the dozens of men in black from before.
It wasn't that Feiying and Guazi didn't want to help Feiyan; there were unknown dangers in the forest at any moment, and protecting Jun Zijin was their primary duty. They had no choice but to hold their ground. She understood this naturally, so she would not make things difficult for them unless absolutely necessary.
Jun Zijin heard the intense sounds of fighting from afar. She lashed the horse with her whip, and the horse, as if sensing its master’s burning anxiety, let out a long neigh and galloped forward.
Seeing Feiyan’s movements growing slower, Jun Zijin’s brows locked tight. 100 paces away... 50 paces... 30 paces... 20 paces... Just then, a flash of red crossed Jun Zijin’s vision; Feiyan failed to dodge a sword thrust by a masked man, her left arm was wounded, and her movements faltered.
A masked man swung his blade at Feiyan, while the other two turned and charged toward Jun Zijin. Feiying and Guazi broke away to intercept them.
Seeing that Feiyan could not dodge, Jun Zijin swung the length of rope she had grabbed from the carriage, wrapping it around the waist of the masked man attacking Feiyan. Using the momentum, she pulled and swung, sending the man flying into a tree. Jun Zijin had barely saved Feiyan. Feiyan looked back with shock, but quickly calmed down and rejoined the fight.
In an instant, the masked man who had been thrown aside abandoned Feiyan and lunged toward Jun Zijin.
Jun Zijin did not hesitate to leap off the horse and join the fray. She brandished her dagger rapidly, cold light flashing everywhere. Seeing the main target had arrived, the three men intensified their attacks, each strike lethal.
Feiyan had been struggling against three, but now it was four against three, and they were clearly in control. The four of them moved with perfect coordination, as if they were comrades of many years. Although Jun Zijin lacked internal energy, her close-quarters combat skills were no match for theirs.
In that moment, the masked men, who had been at a disadvantage, showed no intention of retreating. They all swung their blades toward Jun Zijin at once. Clearly, they were blinded by desperation, choosing this suicidal tactic in a final, reckless gamble.
Jun Zijin dodged backward, barely avoiding the strike. She knew that if she rushed forward now, she would surely die, and the other three would lose their heads for failing to protect their master.
Feiying, Feiyan, and Guazi surrounded Jun Zijin, the battle growing increasingly fierce. In the dense forest, blades clashed, and a murderous aura filled the air.
Standing among the three, Jun Zijin seized every opportunity to fire her tranquilizer needles.
The three masked men had to deal with sword attacks while dodging the needles. They had seen the power of the needles in the forest—one touch and you fell—so they had to be on guard. For a time, the masked men were thrown into chaos.
"Now!" Jun Zijin whispered, a cold smile tugging at her lips.
