Chapter 94

~8 min read 1,473 words

Spinocerebellar ataxia.

A degenerative disease for which there is currently no cure.

There are three clinical manifestations:

In the early stage, walking becomes unsteady, limbs tremble, and both movements and reactions become sluggish.

In the middle stage, speech becomes slurred and intonation difficult to control, eye movements become unsmooth, images overlap, muscles become uncoordinated, and writing becomes impossible.

In the late stage, speech is no longer clear, and the ability to speak may even be lost entirely. Standing becomes impossible, requiring a wheelchair for mobility. Comprehension gradually declines, eventually leading to a loss of consciousness and a comatose state.

Riko experienced all of this in the span of just one episode.

At the very beginning, she could still live like a normal person.

But as time passed, she began to rely on Tendou to get around.

The animation team did not describe this process in detail, but it was already enough to break the viewers' hearts.

Upon learning of her illness, the Teiko group went to a shrine together to pray for Amane Riko.

When they were free, they would also stay by her side, talk to her, and try to cheer her up.

These scenes should have been heartwarming, but the viewers watching the show only felt heartache.

The audience knew it wasn't real, but they still couldn't help but feel sad for the characters.

"Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day," "Your Lie in April," "CLANNAD".....

Sentimental viewers have shed tears for too many shows and plots like this.

Fan Shi was no longer as talkative as before; he didn't chat with the live stream comments or start discussions from time to time.

He just watched quietly, watching Riko being tortured by her illness, yet remaining strong, with a smile always on her face.

Somehow, his eyes suddenly began to sting, and he sniffled several times.

Riko deserved so much to live.

He desperately hoped someone could come and change all of this.

But even Tendou, hailed by the audience as the "King of Cool" of this work, could only spend a great deal of time accompanying Riko.

It could only be said that Riko was too tough; she had the illness implanted in her body, yet because she was prepared, her mindset remained cheerful throughout.

The result of this was that countless viewers were left bawling by her strength and positivity.

At this moment, the animation began to insert the notes Amane Riko had deliberately written.

April, Year XX, weather sunny. I went to work at the cafe as usual today. I finished my work as fast as I could because Tiandao Tiandao Jingyan was still practicing at the court, and I guessed he must be hungry by now.

After finishing my work, I hurried to the nearby court without stopping. I tripped and fell, and I realized my body didn't seem to listen to me anymore. I told Tiandao Tiandao Jingyan about this, and he forced me to go to the hospital for a check-up.

April 9th, the weather remained sunny. The results of the check-up came out; I was diagnosed with spinocerebellar ataxia. The doctor said it was an incurable disease. Hearing this news, I found it hard to accept at first, but when I saw Tiandao Tiandao Jingyan cursing the doctor as a quack—the first time I'd ever seen him so angry—I actually laughed out loud.

April 10th, weather sunny, the sky is so blue. My classmates and everyone in the basketball club found out about my illness. Everyone was worried sick; Miwako was even sadder than me, crying all morning. Honestly, I'm the one who's sick, yet I'm the one who has to comfort her. I really hope she grows up soon.

April 11th, the sky is overcast and cloudy. Today, everyone from the basketball club dragged me to a very famous shrine in Tokyo. I didn't want to come because everyone has an important national tournament to play tomorrow, but I came in the end, and I even felt happy. Am I being too selfish?

April 12th, the sky remains overcast and cloudy. Today, Tiandao Tiandao Jingyan took me to a hospital. He asked Akashi to find a doctor, who I heard is one of the most authoritative in the world. I'm a bit curious, just how rich is Akashi's family? They drew so much blood and did so many tests; it was painful and tiring, but with Tiandao Tiandao Jingyan by my side, I felt it was okay.

April 15th, weather sunny, the sun finally came out. My test results are also out; no miracle happened. I do indeed have an incurable disease. Tiandao Tiandao Jingyan didn't say a word all day after seeing the report, which makes me a bit worried.

April 20th, weather sunny. I feel more and more that my body sways when I walk; it's starting to feel like it's not my own. I'm a bit scared. My biggest wish is to become Tiandao Tiandao Jingyan's bride, wear a white wedding dress, and walk down the aisle holding his hand. I told Tiandao Tiandao Jingyan my thoughts, and he said he would handle it.

April 21st, weather sunny. Today I married Tiandao Tiandao Jingyan, though the law doesn't recognize it, hahaha. He took me to a bridal shop today to buy a wedding dress and a suit. Tiandao Tiandao Jingyan originally wanted to have them custom-made, but I found I loved every piece in the shop, hahaha. In the end, we went to the chapel, walked down the aisle, and made our vows under the witness of a priest. I became his bride.

April 25th, weather overcast and cloudy. I feel my condition has worsened, but at this point, I'm no longer afraid. I feel very calm now; at least the final chapter of my life is happy. With Tiandao Tiandao Jingyan's company and care every day, I feel so satisfied.....

The entire narration was done by Riko, interspersed with some daily scenes.

It wasn't long, but it made Fan Shi's tears uncontrollable, streaming down his cheeks.

He grabbed a pack of tissues to wipe his nose and tears.

He looked exactly like those girls who hug tissue boxes and cry while watching dramas.

After the diary segment, when the audience saw Amane Riko again, she was already sitting in a wheelchair, unable to walk normally.

They came to a mountain to watch the sunrise.

"So beautiful."

She wanted to reach out, but found she couldn't even lift her arm.

Tendou grabbed her hand, and the two of them opened their hands together toward the direction of the sunrise.

"If you like it, we can come again tomorrow."

"Okay, if there is a tomorrow."

"There definitely will be."

"You don't have to comfort me. I know my own body better than anyone. I won't be able to stay by your side in the future."

Her illness had already reached the late stage; because she didn't have much time to begin with, the progression of the illness was much faster after it was implanted.

At this point, speaking was already very difficult for her, and she couldn't write with her hands; it was as if every word she uttered required all her strength.

Tendou squatted down and leaned close to her mouth to listen to her.

"You must take good care of yourself when I'm gone."

"Yeah, don't worry about me. You said it yourself: the good die young, and the wicked live for a thousand years. A menace like me will live just fine."

"Not too fine. If you live better than when I was around, I'll be very sad."

"Then I'll live a little worse than now."

"That works."

Amane Riko smiled. At the very, very end, she leaned against Tendou's ear and said to him, "Also, you must become the strongest."

Bang!

When Riko finished this sentence, Fan Shi in the real world had already slammed his fist heavily onto the table.

The table's HP dropped by a crazy 99!

He roared in his room, "Production team, f*** your mother!"

It was this roar that pushed the number of viewers in his live stream to break through 100,000+!

First update, finally finished writing this part. I find that every time I write this type of plot, I get very conflicted; I don't dare to write too much, fearing it will affect the reading experience. But at least it's in an animation, it's acting, so adding some of these melodramatic tropes seems to fit the theme better.

What do you all think?

Also, the Six Eyes you wanted are coming too. To be honest, I didn't plan to use the Six Eyes at first; this thing is truly overpowered, still strong even after a nerf, but I found that everyone supports the Six Eyes, so let's go for it!
