Chapter 3: Settling Our Accounts
Gu Mianmian was stunned, and Gu Fu and Gu Mu were also shocked, not expecting Bao Sihan to show them so little face.
But Bao Sihan was exactly that kind of person — he only cared about those he acknowledged; everything else, he simply didn't give a damn about!
"Brother-in-law, this is our Gu Family's domestic matter now, you'd better not get involved…"
Gu Jue also said with authority: "Bo Family Head, your wedding with Wen Yan hasn't even been held yet. She is my daughter, and I will discipline her. I don't need you to butt in!"
"She's your daughter? So the Gu Family Head still knows that much?" Bao Sihan's words were full of mockery. "Eighteen years of ignoring your own flesh and blood, yet keeping some wild child at home and being so close — I thought your Gu Family had forgotten that Wen Yan also bears the surname Gu!"
Gu Wenyan was first astonished, then secretly smiled. Bao Sihan… he really was…
Sure enough, the rumors were true — the Bo Family Head was stubborn and eccentric; whoever provoked him would surely suffer terribly.
And his unwavering protection made Gu Wenyan's heart warm.
She gently grabbed his arm and smiled at him.
Bright and charming, enough to put the sunlight to shame.
Bao Sihan: "…"
What was he supposed to say next?
He was at a loss for words.
Gu Jue, meanwhile, was so enraged by these words that his chest heaved, and he burst into fury: "Bao Sihan! Even if your Bo Family is powerful now, our Gu Family is not afraid of you!"
Gu Mianmian also sobbed at the right moment, as if she had suffered some great grievance.
Bao Sihan came back to his senses, curled his lips contemptuously: "Gu Family Head, ashamed into anger? Seems I've hit on the truth you're most unwilling to admit — your Gu Family people really are blind, raising some bastard of unknown origin at home, and not even finding it unlucky!"
He didn't spare her any face at all, making Gu Mianmian feel as if she'd been slapped.
Gu Mianmian bit her lip, weeping bitterly: "Daddy, Mommy, I knew it, I can never compare to sister…"
Gu Jue was furious beyond measure. Ye Yiwen was about to comfort her when Bao Sihan arrogantly nodded: "At least you have some self-awareness."
"Pfft…"
Gu Wenyan couldn't help but laugh: "Si Han, you have such a sharp tongue, but I quite like it."
Bao Sihan's eyes lifted slightly.
Like it?
His dark expression softened, and he reminded the people before him: "The wedding will be rescheduled for another day. Wen Yan is already my woman. Whoever dares to bully her — no matter how capable you are — I will make you wish you were dead!"
"Brother-in-law, we weren't trying to bully sister, but her running from the wedding today was wrong in the first place. She simply doesn't want to marry you…"
Gu Wenyan gently interrupted her: "Gu Mianmian, I've let you put on this little show for quite a while today. Now, it's my turn to say a few things."
"…What?"
Gu Wenyan took out her phone and tapped on the video that had already been synced: "Why don't you explain what you and Fang Qihang were doing on that road?"
She decisively played the video. Gu Wenyan's car had a built-in dashcam, which clearly captured the scene of these two carefully gathering up the steel cable stretched across the middle of the road, coiling it up, and then sneaking it away.
There was no way to argue.
Gu Mianmian swayed, her face turning pale.
Her parents, however, were somewhat confused and puzzled, not yet fully understanding what this video represented.
Gu Wenyan watched their emotional shifts, the corner of her mouth curving slightly, then tapped on another video, the timeline continuing to rewind further back.
"Brother-in-law, take sister and go through the road ahead."
"Yanyan, you guys hurry past, or you'll miss the wedding!"
"Mr. Bo, hurry and take her back, go through the road ahead…"
Sentence after sentence, urgently urging Gu Wenyan to pass through the front — for what purpose?
Ye Yiwen was the first to react, looking at Gu Mianmian in shock and suspicion: "Mianmian, what is this?"
Gu Jue also frowned, clearly not quite understanding why Gu Mianmian and Fang Qihang would do such a thing.
Gu Wenyan watched the scene with composure, and the coldness in the eyes of the man whose arm she was holding gradually emanated.
"It's not like that, Mommy, don't misunderstand!" Gu Mianmian was rather capable — after a brief panic, she immediately regained her clarity and composure.
Her eyes darted, and the pitiful, teary expression reappeared on her face.
Gu Mianmian said with a hurt look: "Sister, didn't we do all this… for your sake?"
Gu Wenyan played along very well: "For my sake?"
Gu Mianmian had probably analyzed the current situation during this time, realizing Gu Wenyan wasn't so easy to fool, and choked out an apology: "But no matter what, I have to say sorry. Qiheng thought doing this could stop you from running from the wedding. You asked me to help, and I didn't refuse, but then I fell into a struggle."
"I was afraid you'd really run, and our Gu Family and Mom and Dad's reputations would be ruined. I could only try to force you to stop!"
"Oh…" Gu Wenyan said with a smile, drawing out the ending, "So after I drove onto this Panshan Highway at a hundred kilometers per hour and hit the obstacle ahead, I'd crash directly, maybe even roll off the cliff…"
Her gaze sharpened: "Sister, is this how you tried to stop me from running from the wedding?"
Bao Sihan coldly laughed at the right moment: "I'd call this kind of behavior murder for money."
"No! I didn't! Qiheng said he would call you when you got close, to make you slow down, and nothing would happen for sure!"
These one-after-another excuses were quite impressive, and Gu Wenyan realized she hadn't lost unfairly in her past life.
"You should be glad nothing happened. If she had…" Bao Sihan's eerie expression made one's blood run cold, "I would have made your entire Gu Family bury her with her."
Gu Mianmian was so scared she trembled, crying as she apologized: "Sister, I was wrong. I shouldn't have listened to Qiheng. Using such a stupid method was my fault. Hit me if you want!"
Gu Jue, who had been silent until now, didn't look too pleased: "You— you're being far too foolish!"
"Daddy, I'm sorry…"
After some inner struggle, Ye Yiwen merely tried to smooth things over: "But nothing actually happened. Mianmian definitely didn't mean it. Just apologize to Wen Yan, and let's leave it at that."
"Leave it at that?"
Bao Sihan increased the pressure of his fingertips, the dark look spreading: "Your Gu Family people really do wear the word 'favoritism' on your faces, not ashamed in the slightest."
Ye Yiwen, a wealthy lady long unaccustomed to being mocked, looked displeased: "This is our Gu Family's domestic matter too. They are two sisters — are we supposed to make them tear each other apart?"
"That's enough, Si Han." Gu Wenyan gently tugged at the hem of the man's clothes, a casual hint of regret hidden in her tone, "It's fine. Mom and Dad are right too. After all, they… never cared whether I was wronged or not."
Ye Yiwen and Gu Jue were both startled at the same time.
Bao Sihan half-narrowed his phoenix eyes: "Don't worry—if the Gu Family won't settle this matter, I will!"
After saying that, he pulled her into the hospital room and slammed the door shut.
Cutting off the view from outside, Bao Sihan stared at Gu Wenyan's cold, bewitching face, then suddenly gripped her chin: "Out there I already gave you plenty of face. Now, let's settle the score between us."
