Chapter 39: Knowing One's Own Worth

~7 min read 1,345 words

Gu Mianmian went before Gu Yechen with a nervous heart: "Big Brother..."

"Let's go, let's go to my room and have a chat."

"Big Brother, is something the matter?"

Gu Mianmian blinked her innocent eyes, her expression as pure and kind as ever, and in the past, Gu Yechen had never once thought that what he saw could possibly be full of falsehoods.

It was just that at an inexplicable moment, he realized that perhaps he did not understand this younger sister of his as well as he thought.

Just as Gu Wenyan said, what he saw might not be the whole truth.

Once in the room, Gu Yechen asked: "Mianmian, regarding the things that have happened these past few days, do you have anything else you want to say to me?"

"... Big Brother, I don't understand the reason for you asking this; I don't think I have anything special to say."

"Mianmian, I know that to you, you have always been our only sister, and no one else had appeared in your life before."

Gu Yechen was always concise and to the point when facing his subordinates, and it was precisely because he still cared about Gu Mianmian that he spent this much breath: "But Wen Yan is also our sister after all. In this family, your status is no different from hers; you can rest assured about this point."

"I will also guarantee to you that no matter how I treat her in the future, my attitude toward you will not change."

"Big Brother! I know all of this!" Gu Mianmian's tears flowed down, "Do you think that many things before were done by me? Are you doubting me?"

"It is not doubting you, Mianmian. I just hope that in the future, you will not be influenced by things from the outside world, and remember that in this family, you have a position that belongs uniquely to you."

"I know... Big Brother, I really don't dislike Sister... nor did I intend to hurt her. Many things were misunderstandings; you must believe me!"

"Alright, I believe you."

The only thing Gu Yechen could do at this moment was, inevitably, to believe her.

One was a sister without blood relation whom he had watched grow up and upon whom he had showered countless dotes, while the other was a biological sister whose impression he had only recently changed...

Their weight could not yet reach an equilibrium.

Gu Yechen analyzed all of this with a mature mindset. He could judge what his future actions should be, and he also understood that both sisters were important. If he did not place them on the same scale, this family would only become even more of a mess in the future...

Gu Mianmian returned to her room, so angry that she threw all her pillows and quilts onto the floor, venting by stomping on them fiercely.

She treated them as Gu Wenyan: "Damn it! Bitch! Don't think that just because Big Brother's attitude toward you is a little different now, you can walk sideways in this family. I won't let you succeed!"

Gu Mianmian even developed a few grudges against Big Brother: "Just because she is the biological one, you are treating her so well now!"

"And I have stayed by your side for so many years, yet you doubt me! Detestable!"

Gu Mianmian's features were twisted by these grudges, and she almost treated Gu Yechen as an object of hatred just like Gu Wenyan.

Although Gu Wenyan did not see what Gu Mianmian's reaction was, she could guess that her mood at this moment must be terrible.

Gu Wenyan, however, was not affected at all; she ate when she should eat and slept when she should sleep, and occasionally, she would go out for a candlelight dinner with Bo Si Han.

This kind of romantic dinner was, to her, a rather pleasant experience.

Bo Si Han's attitude toward her recently had also become increasingly gentle, without revealing any paranoia.

Although he was slightly overbearing, he was able to discuss things with her after Gu Wenyan acted spoiled.

If this man could continue like this...

Perhaps if the two of them got married, many things would become better.

Gu Wenyan even began to look forward to the picture of them truly living together; it would probably be even more wonderful than she imagined.

As for the family, the relationship between Gu Wenyan and Big Brother had reached a peaceful state that had never existed before.

Occasionally, when they bumped into each other early in the morning, Gu Wenyan would also greet him.

Even though Gu Yechen was mostly cold-faced, he was not as arrogant toward her as in the past, and he would politely nod at Gu Wenyan, or even remind her: "Remember to eat breakfast."

Although this change was small, it was extremely obvious in this family.

Gu Yeting was increasingly annoyed by Big Brother's change, and thus liked to nitpick Gu Wenyan even more.

Unfortunately, now, Gu Wenyan did not indulge him at all. If Gu Yeting dared to look for trouble again, she would definitely retort without mercy on the spot; even verbally, she would not let him bully her.

Ye Yiwen and Gu Jue did not interfere in the conflicts between the children; they had always believed that problems between children should be solved by the children themselves, and that too much parental interference was actually not a good thing.

Time thus arrived at the day of the opening of Gu Yefeng's Art Museum. The Gu Family directly utilized their private jet, and the whole family headed to another city to participate in the opening event of Gu Yefeng's Art Museum.

This also demonstrated the cohesion and deep family affection of the Gu Family members.

Gu Wenyan was the last to board the plane, but when she got on, the best seats were already gone.

The Gu Family's private jet was purchased some years ago and was not very large; there were few seats, and there were only six luxury seats, which were originally arranged according to the Gu Family's previous family member configuration.

This extra seat was relatively narrow.

Gu Mianmian saw Gu Wenyan come up, and her eyes flickered: "Sister, you sit in my seat; it's your first time on a private jet, you should enjoy it properly."

"Mianmian." The Third Young Master of the Gu Family lay lazily in the wide seat, his shirt buttons undone by a few, looking like a dissolute playboy.

He glanced sideways at Gu Wenyan: "What is there to give up? Can't you sit if the seat is a little smaller? I see that she managed to live just fine before when she didn't have these luxuries, so why must she be so pampered now that she's back?"

Gu Wenyan was wearing a light green dress that pinched in at her slender waist, and she smiled with a faint expression: "That's not as good at enjoying life as the Third Young Master. A man with such delicate skin and tender flesh, not a shred of masculine spirit can be seen."

Gu Yeting was so angry that he sat up with a start: "What did you say about me?"

Gu Wenyan looked straight into his cold, sharp gaze, her expression indifferent: "I said you are exactly what you are. The Third Young Master wouldn't be unable to even listen to this bit of truth, would he? I still have to advise you: don't always listen to false, flattering words while living in this world; it will make you not know how much you are actually worth."

Gu Yeting's facial contours were sharp, but his features were exquisite, and coupled with his naturally fair skin that would not tan no matter how much he was exposed to the sun, even with his 1.89-meter tall stature and eight-pack abs, it was very inconsistent with his own aesthetic.

Gu Wenyan happened to know this point, so she specifically used it to mock him.

Gu Yeting was about to explode with anger.
