Chapter 47: To Find the Real Culprit
Gu Mianmian stared at Gu Yefeng's reaction in disbelief.
She knew how much he cared about the art museum he had poured so much of his heart into; even a single flaw, a single accident, would destroy the perfection in his heart.
But why would he still… turn around?
Just as Gu Mianmian was uncontrollably panicking.
Gu Yefeng, in a turn no one expected, strode over. He looked at Gu Wenyan, an inexplicable depth of emotion in his eyes.
Gu Wenyan, however, had anticipated this and said calmly to him, "Welcome back. Let us continue this artistic journey."
Gu Yefeng spoke, his voice very faint, yet carrying a warmth it had not possessed before: "You're right about one thing—someone is still looking forward to it."
Then he had no reason to give it all up immediately.
As for what everyone had just assumed—that Gu Wenyan had caused all this trouble—in an instant, it was no longer trouble at all.
After all, anyone with eyes could see that Gu Yefeng had been about to end today's art museum opening ceremony, but Gu Wenyan had changed his mind with just a few words.
This proved that the relationship between Gu Wenyan and him was not as bad as people thought, and that Gu Yefeng was nothing like the way everyone imagined him despising her.
How exactly Gu Wenyan had struck at Gu Yefeng's heart, made him change his mind, and become willing to continue today's opening ceremony—many people still couldn't figure it out.
But the result was plain for all to see.
Gu Yefeng regained his cold, proud demeanor and continued the work he had not yet finished.
And before he continued, his faint gaze swept over everyone: "When you discuss today's matter outside, I do not wish to hear anyone slinging mud at Wen Yan."
That single sentence was like a stone that stirred up a thousand ripples, slamming hard onto the water's surface.
It not only shocked the crowd, but also made Gu Mianmian's heart pound wildly, her face turning pale.
What… did he mean by that?
Was he saying that he believed today's problems had nothing to do with Gu Wenyan?
That he didn't care who the culprit was, and was even going to protect Gu Wenyan??
What kind of potion had Gu Wenyan given him?
To make the proud artist, who had never had her in his eyes, so willingly protect her!
Gu Mianmian's nails dug viciously into her palms; she herself didn't know how much force she used,
but the one thing she was certain of… was that her situation would only grow more difficult.
Just as Gu Mianmian was worrying about her own future, Gu Wenyan slowly walked toward her.
She immediately put on an act, smiling softly and weakly: "Sister, it's such a relief you're alright, and thank you for letting Second Brother…"
"Enough with the nonsense. Today, for his sake, I won't bother with you here, but once we're home, today's matter isn't over."
Quite a few people had already left, so not many heard Gu Wenyan say that.
But Gu Mianmian still wore her habitual mask and asked in confusion: "Sister, what are you talking about?"
"I don't believe that among all the surveillance footage on site today, not a single one captured any issue between you and those two reporters." Gu Wenyan's gaze was sharp. "Don't worry, I won't wrong a good person, but if today's matter has anything to do with you, I will absolutely not forgive you."
Hearing Gu Wenyan's threat, Gu Yeting rushed over, his sword-like brows raised: "Gu Wenyan, what do you mean? Are you trying to find another scapegoat again? Let me tell you…"
"Gu Yeting, you dim-witted fool with problems in both IQ and EQ, please don't talk to me anymore."
Gu Wenyan said impatiently: "Oh right, you have one more flaw—being blind… your eyesight is probably over 1000 degrees, right?"
No matter how he might rage, Gu Wenyan, having lightly and breezily finished lecturing Gu Yeting, turned and walked toward Bao Sihan.
A light smile hung on her face: "I'm sorry for making you worry today."
"I, on the other hand, found everything today quite interesting—I got to see scenes that are usually very hard to see."
Especially how Gu Wenyan changed Gu Yefeng's attitude with just a few words… it was indeed impressive.
Even Bao Sihan had to admit that the current her was full of a charm she had never had before.
Decisive, intelligent, wise, and possessed of a spirit hard to put into words.
Who present today would dare say she was still the rough, uncouth country bumpkin of popular imagination?
Although they hadn't known Gu Wenyan before, just this one direct confrontation… was enough to shock them.
Gu Wenyan then saw Gu Yechen walking over with their parents; he said: "We will investigate today's matter and get to the truth."
Gu Yechen's attitude was serious; clearly, he had no intention of letting the matter rest—he was going to find the real culprit.
Both to clear Gu Wenyan's name, and to make the true culprit pay the price.
Gu Wenyan felt a warmth in her heart: "Alright, thank you, Big Brother."
Gu Mianmian bit her lip so hard she nearly drew blood.
Meanwhile, Gu Yeting, still oblivious, tried to comfort her: "Don't be afraid, Mianmian. She must know that shifting attention at this time is the only way to stop people from suspecting her."
"……"
"Don't worry, let them investigate all they want—this matter has nothing to do with you anyway!"
Gu Mianmian wanted to say something, but for the moment couldn't think of what to say.
Fear, terror, worry… countless emotions tangled in her heart; she was on the verge of breaking down……
The Art Museum Opening Ceremony ultimately concluded very smoothly; although there were a few minor disturbances along the way, the result was good.
It was also the first time in Gu Yefeng's life that he had tried to find satisfaction in imperfection amid an imperfect situation.
When the opening ceremony ended, he walked over to Gu Wenyan, his bearing cool and aloof, his eyes still frost-like, devoid of warmth.
Yet the words he spoke were softer than ever before: "Thank you, today."
At the very least, at the critical moment, Gu Wenyan had made him realize that he had always been too obsessive in the past, and had overlooked certain important things.
Gu Wenyan smiled at him: "It's only right. Even if you refuse to acknowledge me, I'm still your sister."
"Who says I refuse to acknowledge you? I thought I had already made my stance clear today."
Not long ago, Gu Yefeng had still said harsh words in front of Gu Wenyan.
Yet today he had already declared to everyone that he didn't only have Gu Mianmian as a sister—Gu Wenyan was equally his family.
Gu Wenyan's lips curved slightly, and she said nothing more; the two exchanged a knowing look.
Beside her, Bao Sihan tightened his grip on Gu Wenyan's hand, suddenly with a bit more force.
Gu Wenyan felt a slight sting, turned her head to look at him: "What's wrong?"
A darkness stirred in the man's eyes, imperceptible, his emotions surging and ebbing in waves.
But when Gu Wenyan looked over, he merely smiled as if nothing were the matter: "Nothing, just thinking about what I should take you to eat later."
"Today I should be eating with my family, right?"
The man's expression gradually faded; clearly he wasn't angry, yet that gaze, dark and boundless, made one's heart involuntarily tighten.
Gu Wenyan blinked, and quickly noticed his emotions had returned to calm.
"Alright, I'll wait for you at the hotel, contact me after you finish eating."
Bao Sihan's tone was restrained, as if enduring something.
Gu Wenyan looked at him in puzzlement: "You're definitely coming with me, so why would I wait for you at the hotel?"
Bao Sihan was slightly stunned.
