Chapter 94: Who Has Come Back?
Gu Wenyan went straight to the Marketing Department to report in, but at this hour most of the department's employees were busy with their own work, and faced with her—the Gu Family's Eldest Miss, whose identity was special and unusual—they didn't show too many particular emotions.
They all seemed very polite.
Gu Wenyan also knew that she had no way of earning everyone's recognition for the time being, but this matter couldn't be rushed; it had to come gradually.
What she needed to do was get used to the working state.
Gu Wenyan's first day of work went fairly smoothly; after all, there really wasn't anything demanding that needed doing, only getting familiar with this working state and rhythm.
Just watching how they arranged their work was enough.
Beyond that, all Gu Wenyan needed to do was first get to know her colleagues in the Marketing Department, so that later when she wanted to find someone to collaborate with, she wouldn't be left not knowing anyone.
Of course, precisely because of her identity, getting in touch with everyone was actually very easy, even if they weren't necessarily that happy at her appearance.
But Gu Wenyan couldn't worry about all that now; first she'd slowly get used to things here, and then talk about the rest.
Bao Sihan came to pick her up from work in the evening; his Rolls-Royce was parked not far from the company gate, and Gu Wenyan quickened her steps toward it.
Once she got in the car, the man grabbed her hand and half-pulled her into his embrace, his arm circling her waist: "How did it feel?"
"Mm, not bad… probably because it just started, there's nothing much for me to do."
"Take it slow. Since you want to work at Gu Group, there'll still be plenty to learn in the future," Bao Sihan said gently. "If there's anything you don't understand, you can ask me too."
Gu Wenyan laughed: "Really? But you're the chairman of Bo Group—if I came to ask you, wouldn't that be making a mountain out of a molehill?"
"You're my wife. If you don't ask me, who would you ask?"
"Then it's settled? From now on, no matter what I don't understand, I'll come straight to you?"
Bao Sihan nodded: "Mm, okay."
He agreed without hesitation, and Gu Wenyan loved this feeling of being completely cared for by him.
It seemed that no matter when, to him she was always the most special and the most important.
She held the most distinct place and favoritism in Bao Sihan's heart, and just thinking about how she was actually so special…
Gu Wenyan's heart would be filled with utter contentment; perhaps only by experiencing it herself could one truly feel how wonderful it was.
"The wedding date has been set," Bao Sihan said out of nowhere.
"…Alright."
Gu Wenyan had almost forgotten.
After the two of them got married, their lives hadn't changed much from before, so she nearly forgot she was already married.
Thinking of everything that would come after the wedding, Gu Wenyan's cheeks flushed faintly: "Um, have all the wedding preparations been taken care of?"
"Pretty much." The man's fingertips gently stroked the soft flesh of her chin. "For the wedding, you only need to show up; everything else will be arranged by me."
"Alright then, looks like I'll be the most idle bride in the world?"
"But in the next few days, you'll still need to be there for the diamond ring and wedding dress fittings."
"Mm." Gu Wenyan nodded.
Gu Wenyan found it almost magical that she was about to move into the Bo Family's home to live with Bao Sihan.
In her previous life, her relationship with him had been utterly antagonistic, as if they could never possibly get along this peacefully.
But the truth was, between them, they were growing closer and closer, with a bond others could hardly imagine.
She was also taking everything about Bao Sihan seriously; in the life to come, he might well be that most special and most important person.
After her date with Bao Sihan, Gu Wenyan hadn't expected that besides the car today, she'd receive yet another gift once she got home.
Her second brother had come home in the evening and actually given her a painting he had done himself.
This painting had previously been on display at an exhibition hall in another city, so this time it counted as having been specially transported over.
Gu Wenyan was delighted to receive this gift: "Thank you, Second Brother, I love it!"
Gu Wenyan was bound to like it.
This kind of thoughtfulness mattered greatly; she realized that her efforts over these past days were being rewarded more and more.
Whether it was her eldest brother or her second brother, their attitudes toward her had completely changed.
As for a certain someone… Gu Wenyan couldn't be bothered to deal with him…
The grudges from when Gu Yeting had always helped Gu Mianmian go against her—Gu Wenyan still remembered them; they weren't so easily forgotten.
Gu Mianmian had been staying in her room almost entirely these past few days, and her parents happened to be away from home, so she had no one to pour out her grievances to, and did her best to minimize her presence.
Today, on the rare occasion she came downstairs, she saw Second Brother giving Gu Wenyan a gift; on top of that, Gu Mianmian also knew there was a new car in the garage. This imbalance in her heart made her expression stiffen again and again.
Gu Mianmian held her emotions back and didn't lose her temper, but once she returned to her room, she immediately made a phone call.
"Come back quickly! If you don't come back soon, I won't have the slightest foothold in this house anymore…"
Whatever was said on the other end of the line, a savage smile crept across Gu Mianmian's face: "As long as you come back, I'm not afraid of her!"
Gu Yechen discovered that both his younger brothers had actually jumped ahead of him in giving gifts, so he quickly handed over the necklace he had prepared for Gu Wenyan.
"At Gu Group's next business banquet, you can wear it when you attend with me."
Looking at the dazzling color of the Blue Sapphire Necklace in her hand, one could tell just how expensive and precious it was.
But Gu Wenyan didn't refuse; she accepted it openly, smiling sweeter than ever: "Thank you, Eldest Brother!"
Gu Yechen raised his hand and ruffled Gu Wenyan's head, his tone softening as well: "From now on, if there's anything you like, just tell Eldest Brother."
The more he felt he owed Gu Wenyan, the more he wanted to make up for it in this way.
No matter what it was, as long as Gu Wenyan wanted it… he wanted to buy it for her as compensation, as much as possible.
Such an expensive necklace—Gu Wenyan would have to be a fool not to accept it.
Accepting it wasn't enough either; she had to post it online, because Gu Mianmian would definitely be watching her every move…
So the existence of this necklace would certainly reach Gu Mianmian right away; provoking Gu Mianmian would keep her opposing Gu Wenyan and revealing more of her weaknesses…
Gu Wenyan went to Gu Group for another day of work; nothing had changed from before, and she was still in the stage of slowly learning.
In the evening, she went home with Gu Yechen and found that not only had her parents returned, but the other two young masters of the Gu Family were there as well.
Even Gu Mianmian was sitting in the living room.
The person they were gathered around made Gu Wenyan slowly raise her brows.
As for Gu Yechen beside her, he too showed a look of delight and strode inside.
Gu Yechen looked toward the middle-aged woman at the center of the crowd and said with a smile, "When did you get back? Why didn't you say something in advance? I would have gone to pick you up!"
