It was one of his favorite pastimes to try wine from all around the world and he found that those he imported from the Bactrian Empire were the best he could find. Despite the risks it posed to import it during the trading ban, it was one he was willing to take if it meant he could drink his favorite wines.

"Your Grace." A butler slammed the doors open. His breathing was frantic and his panic was spread across his face. Count Chimel’s face wrapped in annoyance as he turned to face the old butler.

"What. You know I do not wish to be interrupted." His voice was full of bitterness as he spoke. The butler who would usually fall underneath stayed tall.

"We are under attack. Pirates from the sea. They fly a red flag with the Dead God on its banner." In his panic, the Bulter hardly paused between words. The glass in the count’s hand fell to the ground shattering. He knew only one man who flew that flag and he was dammed if he would wait for him.

"Mobilise the forces. Set up a defensive line." The count grabbed his coat before getting his sword in the other room. He hardly knew how to use it and it mainly existed as an ornament piece, but he needed to show strength right now.

The butler bowed and quickly ran off, but his mind was a mess. Due to Snowid’s reforms, the territory had seen a significant fall in the amount soldier it had. He knew that it was a small fleet attacking and wondered if it was enough.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was a normal day for Lech. He woke up next to his wife and silently prepared himself for work eating a roll of bread before he went. It was never filling but he was more than happy to leave the majority for his wife and kid. The day was meant to be his usual routine of going to the pier and moving goods for his boss, but the air fe;lt colder the usual. He felt the sea was calmer than it should have been.

Looking into the distance he could see towering shadows. He knew what they were but wondered why they were coming towards the shore. The waters weren’t deep enough for a docking and nothing of value existed here to trade.

"Boss." Lech put down the goods in his hands and called for his boss. "Those ships, are they coming to us?" He wanted to be sure that he wasn’t going crazy and his boss sighed and put down what he was doing and looked over. His eyes narrowed seeing them and he became equally confused by the sight.

"Yeah. Keep watching them. They may have been caught by a storm and need some quick repairs." Lech nodded and leaned on the rail. he was happy to be paid to do nothing. Five minutes passed and the ships came into much closer distance. They anchored and numerous people loaded themselves into rowing boats and dropped into the sea, sailing towards them.

He saw the flag clearly now that stuck out like a sore thumb with its blood-red color. "Boss. You recognize the flag." He called him once more seeing they stopped. The man came back out and looked at it. His breathing slightly quickened and he took out a telescope. Looking at it the scope fell out of his hands and his breathing quickened.

"We have to go now." His boss didn’t even bother explaining, quickly grabbing a few coins and running. Lech didn’t understand what was happening but seeing the absolute terror on his boss’s face he didn’t hesitate and ran home. All down the street he called for people to run, but it fell on deaf ears, everyone thinking he went mad.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gage jumped down to the shore and drew his sword. He was a tall bald man with scars running down from the top of his head to his chin. His eyes much like his brothers were a deep black, but inside them showed a deep horror waiting to be released. From behind his crew wordlessly followed him with a deep bloodlust in their eyes. Much like Gage, they were all bald, and littered in scars.

Agae walked up the shore and in his sight he saw the small seaside village with the large manor in the distance. Gage didn’t hesitate and ran forward. His men charged forward with crazed expression but all of them refused to make a sound. The people in the village were slow to react and only did when the first screams started. Gage walked through the streets followed by two of his men, cutting down anyone in front of him, no matter their age or gender.

His eyes showed no hesitation cutting even the youngest child and his body soon was covered in blood. He would kick down the door looking inside for any valuables. From family heirlooms to the tiniest scraps of silver, nothing was spared. Runners came back and forth taking the valuables back to the ships not bothering about the slaughter going on around.

Once more Gage and his men kicked down another door. A man charged at him with a small knife. Gage leaned to the side tripping the man up. He fell forward and before he could even beg for his life a sword fell through his neck. The three walked in, following the sound of a muffled crying. Opening the door and the end of the house he reached under the bed pulling a white leg from underneath.

"NO! NO!" The kicking of limbs and desperate screams in between cries erupted throughout the house. "GET OFF! NO!" With one strong pull, she was taken from underneath the bed, slamming into its frame. Blood poured and she cried, kicking at the unmoving man. Her desperate cries fell on deaf ears as Gage raised his blade. Before he could strike a tap on his shoulder stopped him and he turned looking at the expecting face of his crew member.

Throwing her leg onto the ground he walked out with the other man, leaving his crew in there. Ranskaing the house he took whatever valuables he could find whilst screams echoed in the background. Only when he had every worth did he leave. Leaving the house he stopped turning to the right. Finally meeting him was the small force of the count, in a defensive line outside the town.

The soldiers had stoic faces looking at the horror in the street as people desperately ran towards them, fleeing the horror. The Count watched as smoke rose into the sky from the town. The red mist filled the air with the screams of anything that moved completing the dreadful setting. The smell of iron was pungent and he struggled to keep down the sick in his throat.

He looked at Gage who watched him like a lion, waiting for its prey. From behind the other pirate reached into his pocket pulling out a large whistle. With a single blow, it released the most vial sound the Count had ever heard. It’s noise comparable to the scream of hundreds of women at once. It made the hairs on everyone’s body stand and back go cold.

The tormented screams around the town got noticeably quiet as the pirates gathered near Gage, all covered in blood watching the small force assembled by the Count. The count knew he should have given the order for his men to attack before they assembled, but he couldn’t even move, terrified of the man in front of him. The horror behind him was eclipsed by the dread his eyes alone produced. It felt like a prelude to whatever he would inflict.

Not a single sound left his mouth and it added to his horror as he stared, unblinking. The world seemed to darken the more he looked into Gage’s eyes despite the flames growing behind him. He knew his voice was the deciding moment. He could see everyone was terrified facing the force in front, even if they put on brave faces. He knew everyone in that town was dead or soon to be.

Every subtle move Gage made, caused the Count to jump. The small twist of his head, the curling of his fingers around his blade, the deep but slow breathing he did. It was all enough to make an immovable weight on his shoulders. He fought his body to do anything.

Taking multiple deep breaths, he forced himself to calm down. Looking back at his manor he felt even more pain. "All men retreat. Escort the survivors to safety." He turned, but never took his eyes off the threat behind him. He knew that engaging them meant death and he knew it would inflict pain that human words couldn’t describe. It pained him to leave his wealth, but he preferred his life. Gripping the reins of his horse tightly, his face filled with rage.’Snowid caused this. Taking my men.’He silently cursed the man as he thought this, quickly shifting the blame away from himself.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lech could hear the screams behind him. It took five minutes to reach his house and when he did he heard the start of the slaughter. "Honey. We have to go now." Shaking her awake, he was frantic. Her sleep was deep and the distant screams wouldn’t be enough to wake her yet.

Lech was breathing heavily now, understanding why his boss ran so quickly hearing the noise in the background. Thinking quickly he flipped her on her back and stuck her face as hard as she could. He didn’t want to hit his wife but he knew how deep of a sleeper she was. She awoke with a pained cry but Lech covered her mouth. "We have to go now." Jumping up he grabbed the easiest outfit for her to put on. "Get dressed quick. Don’t ask just do it."

She didn’t understand what was going on, but soon the distant screams entered her ears. She knew why her husband was serious and dressed herself rapidly. Running around she grabbed what valuables and money she could find and carry whilst Lech carefully picked up their child.

Seeing his wife holding a small bag he nodded and walked out the front door. The scream and pungent smell got closer, but he didn’t pay attention running in the opposite direction. He had a small knife in his belt hoping he didn’t have to use it.

He ran with all his might. As his wife slowed he forced her to run faster. Looking back he could see the pirates breaking into houses. Their blood-soaked appearance terrified anyone seeing it. He could see they spotted him and a second wind kicked in. "HURRY THEY SEE US!" Lech screamed at his wife. He turned back and saw her breathing heavily swaying as she struggled to run.

Gritting his teeth he went back and wrapped her in his free hand. He pulled her along looking back seeing the approaching pirates who cut down his neighbors who ran away. One stopped reaching behind his back. Lech saw a bow being pulled and tried to run faster looking away.

He could see the end of his street and knew he would be fine if he reached it. He ran harder and faster. "Ahhhh!" The arrow pierced his leg slowing him down but he refused to give up and limped forward. He pulled his wife along who now supported him. "Ahhhh!" One more arrow pierced his other leg and he stumbled forward. A third then a fourth all pierced through him.

"Lech get up." His wife shook him and he looked up at her desperate face. Lech could feel his legs become useless.

"Run. Leave and ta..." His words were cut short and the spray of blood splashed on his face. He saw his wife’s scared face as the arrow exited the other side of her neck. He could feel her weight fall on his body not even allowing him to scream in horror at what happened. He heard his son’s cries and he couldn’t reach to comfort him.

All he could do was wait for his death in silence. He waited but the dreadful cry of hundreds of women cut through the air, silencing everything with its miserable sound. The death he was waiting for didn’t arrive yet and he was forced to look at his dead wife’s face unable to move it, her blood running down his neck, soaking his clothes.
",2115,"2026-06-03T11:17:48.774Z","2026-06-03T11:17:51.400Z",1,"novelbin.me","b7a95771aaee6d58b1148cec327e6d651068ca88f4015dfe08d3e27da50d0b99","the-reborn-king-chapter-131","the-reborn-king-chapter-129",487,"https://novelzhen.com/images/covers/the-reborn-king-cover.jpg"]
