They made sure to do it almost unnoticed to avoid unnecessary troubles. They could see all around them how their fellows had slowly begun to cling to every word spoken by Isra. Few remained skeptical of it but they were sure that with a few more reassurances and promises they would eventually be tricked. They all admitted to themselves that Isra was persuasive. The passion and respect she spoke with would strike deep with anyone who heard it.

Then including an enemy bigger than Alfred to secure the deal. It was a master stroke and an unexpected ability from her. When they were invited to the banquet they assumed it to be nothing special, with Isra only going to mingle with them and try to persuade them individually. It was different now and made them wonder if the plan to use her as a bargaining chip would even be possible now.

They brushed the thoughts out of their mind and rode to Mother’s location as quickly as possible. The carriage ride took less than five minutes and they walked into the secret entrance to the temple. Knocking on the door a couple of seconds passed before Mother’s soothing voice gave permission to enter.

"Oh. I thought you would be at the banquet." She said softly closing the book. The three looked at one another and Mother saw the mixed emotions on their faces. "What’s wrong? Please sit." She quickly stood up offering her seat for them and they all collapsed into the chairs.

"The Empress has shifted the tides." his words were confusing and now it was Mother’s turn to have a strange expression. He looked up and saw her face. "Majority of the nobility, at least for a while will be siding with her. She made a speech that rallied them. Of those who said they would help us before, I would say only 5% will follow through on that promise."

They saw Mother’s face form a small smile as she gave a reassuring nod towards them, yet it never reached her eyes. Underneath the table her hands clenched into tight fists, her veins popping. "A shame." She tried to keep her voice composed and soft. "They have once more been led astray and can’t even see it." Unclenching her fist and taking a deep breath she reached out and grabbed one off their hands. "It is why you three are the best of your people. You have humanity. You understand the need for change." Mother tightened the hold on their hand. "Thank you for standing by me."

"There is no need. We believe your vision for what it is." Mother nodded releasing the hold in their hands.

"It’s getting late. I must sleep soon."

"Of course. We will see ourselves out." The three got up leaving Mother alone. Once out of sight, her entire demeanor changed. The air got colder as her smile vanished, replaced by a cold, blank face.

"Idiots." She spoke to herself. "One word from a traitor whore and they flip back to her side." Mother picked up the book she had been reading. She stroked the cover before chucking it across the room, breaking a small vase in anger. "Idiots. They can’t see God’s vision." Her voice practically came out as a growl saying that. Shaking her head she looked at the broken vase with cold detached eyes. "They can’t be trusted in the Utopia." Walking over she reached down picking up the pieces of the vase. Picking another piece up she cut herself. The blood trailed down her finger being observed with frozen eyes.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The day passed and Mother had a dark circle under her eyes. She had not slept, planning how to deal with the situation that arose. Putting makeup on to hide her tired appearance, she sorted her clothes. A knocking on the door came just in time and calling for their entrance, she saw Gregor walk. She smiled happily, getting a seat and pouring tea for him.

"It is good to see you, my friend." Mother said kindly and Gregor smiled back in response.

"As it is a you. I’ve come wondering if you have received any information on the banquet last night." Gregor asked and he saw the drop in Mother’s mood. It wasn’t massive but the slight fall in her smile was enough to show it.

She made sure to fix it straight away. "The nobles have once more been led astray. Lies and fear have clouded their judgment once more. Truly a tragedy." Mother spoke with a soft compassionate voice.

"A sad thing truly. But they can always be saved." Gregor said with optimism getting a wide smile and a small chuckle from Mother.

"Of course. His Kingdom welcomes all." She lied as easily as she breathed. She didn’t like to lie to Gregor. He was the one man she respected most on this planet for his faithful devotion to Khors, but he was also the one person she wished never had to experience the horrors of the world. Some things she had to keep hidden from him, for his own sake. "How many copies of the book have been created now?"

Mother asked and Gregor fell into thought. "I mobilized many of the clergy to copy its texts but it’s a long process as you know. Thirty at best. Other than the two originals, ten fully finished copies exist. Why do you ask?"

"I need five copies." She could see Gregor was confused by her request and she waved it off, "If the nobility are to be saved they must know what we truly wish to do. I will gift it to them and try to show them the truth of what we accomplish." Gregor nodded seeing it as a good enough reason.

"I can get them for you tonight. Is there anything else?"

"Can you tell Saladin I called for him? I need to see him." She quickly wrote down an address on a note of paper. "Tell him to meet me here." Gregor nodded and seeing that Mother had nothing else to say took the paper and left. Mother smiled looking at his departing back. Out of everyone working with her, he was the one she trusted most. Her most loyal advisor.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"You called." In a warehouse that was used to store the goods given by the commonwealth, Mother, Saladin, and Aseel waited. It was dark but had enough places to hide if anyone came for them.

"I need you to do something for me. Something that the others can’t know." Mother’s words got Saladin’s eyes to go colder, understanding the nature of the work he was about to do. Unlike the others, he could see through Mother. Although her motherly demeanor was half genuine, he also saw the cold side to her that was willing to see her vision no matter the cost. Mother was happy seeing Saladin’s quick change. It was helpful to know that someone like him was helping her.

"I will receive five books tomorrow. Here is a list of names. I need you to hide these books in their houses, in a way that it seems like they were trying to keep it safe but hidden. With the empress here I’m sure that she brought along the people needed to investigate the nobles." Saladin took the note from Mother and read the names.

"It should be possible. None of them are too powerful. I’ll need a couple of days, however."

"That’s fine. I didn’t expect it to be possible to be completed in a day anyway." Hearing her words, Saladin nodded, putting the list into his breast pocket.

"If that’s all I will take my leave. I have work to do." Mother nodded and Saladin left the warehouse leaving Aseel and Mother alone.

"Did you do what I asked?" She turned and asked getting rapid nods of the head. In his eyes, she saw the desire to be praised. "Is there anyone who is dangerous?" Mother asked getting a nod of the head followed by the raising of a finger.

She trusted her son’s instincts the most amongst anything. She had raised him to be the strongest warrior possible, and that included the ability to be able to sense danger. Although he had a heightened ability since birth, she made sure to enhance it as best she could. By now she didn’t know who was better at sensing threats. Her son or a dog. It was borderline supernatural.

"Well done." Mother pulled him in for a hug and he quickly fell into it, returning with a firm embrace. Mother felt like he was making sure she would never run away with how tight it was and knew it was because of how long he had spent away from her. "You’re very good for doing this you know that. Just do as Mother says and you will be fine. You know that right?"

She forced herself out of the hug and looked at him asking that. He nodded his head, expecting another hug. "That’s why I need you to do something for me?" Mother asked gently. "I need you to deal with this dangerous man." Mother said. She saw the hesitation in Aseels eyes flash by. She threatened to reach for her sleeve and show her scars once more but stopped herself. "He scares me, my son." She made her voice terrified and Aseels breathing intensified. The air around him going cold. "You are the only one I trust. Please get rid of him for me. I can’t sleep otherwise."

Aseel’s breathing was deep. His fists clenched so tightly that Mother heard the leather on his gloves threaten to snap. She reached out and touched the mask covering his face. His eye radiated an anger that could rival the sun’s heat. With her touch, he calmed himself, but his breathing was still strong. "Can you do this for your Mother?" Aseel gave one deep nod and Mother bloomed into a smile hugging him. "Good boy. You make me feel safer already."

Pulling out she grabbed his face and rested her foreheads on his. "Remember. A good son listens to their Mother. Don’t disappoint me." Mother said gently with Aseel oblivious to the coldness underneath it. His mind only focused on his Mother’s warmth and the fury he felt for the man in black armor.
",1745,"2026-06-03T11:17:48.774Z","2026-06-03T11:17:51.400Z",1,"novelbin.me","d9817631686819e2af45fa67886ab4c104fb04159862eed7a27300a2bd8b75c1","the-reborn-king-chapter-136","the-reborn-king-chapter-134",487,"https://novelzhen.com/images/covers/the-reborn-king-cover.jpg"]
