So can you just be serious?" Byles looked at Blackwood’s fake smile and after a second it fell showing an equally cold face. "The parade in Far Mile is our best chance to make a move, but that Mayor is taking the liberties to involve himself. he acted quick I’ll give him that enforcing his role as Mayor to the extreme."

"He’s just a mayor. Surely it can’t be that hard." Blackwood asked getting a sigh from Byles.

"Normally yes, but he has a lot of power for some reason right now. More so than usual. Not even because of the event. He had it before." Byles quickly said stopping Blackwood from interjecting. "I need you to take care of him."

Byles clutched his cane and said in a cruel tone as he looked at the cloaked figure behind Blackwood. "It’s dangerous. We do this and we declare a new type of war on Alfred and the Empire."

Blackwood warned but the old man didn’t budge. "We have no choice. You’ve seen the papers that have started. We need this even to go off without a hitch. That Mayor is blocking every thing we attempt when he can."

"That’s another problem. Those crafters made something in the palace. I’m sure you figured out that much alone." Byles nodded. "We need it. The Holy Seat needs it."

"Too risky."

"And killing the mayor isn’t. We do that and we have declared that the clergy is not off limits anymore."

"It’s not the same." Byles slammed his cane on the ground. "They never were. It is just the Underwells know how to hide it."

"We attack the mayor of one of the largest trading hubs in the Empire. And let’s just say we kill him, the bishops will be targeted." Blackwood sighed. "I agree we need to go on the offensive but there must be another way."

"And what is it?" Byles said angrily, spit flying from his mouth. "Everything we have done has been thwarted or countered. We are losing Blackwood. Use your brain."

Blackwood dropped his head as he picked up the glass of water. Taking a sip he claimed himself and to think clearly. "Okay. The military. We have to go after it. It is the largest and easiest force to use. next the nobles. Sow tensions."

"Reapting old plans."

"You did not go through with them." Blackwood slammed his hand on the armrest. "I have followed every one of your plans and they have all failed. We do things my way now old man." Blackwood stared deep into Byles’s old eyes sparks of tension forming between the two.

It was Byles who broke first. "Fine. Lay it out."

"I’ve collected more information recently. Issac Flanders has left the military and an opening has formed. Competition will become fiercer with that. We just have to fan the flames. Meanwhile, target the Safrid and new nobles. Redirect the Empire’s attention away from us as much as possible."

"Finally we begin a systematic increase in crime across the cities."

"It is possible?" Byles asked excitedly and Blackwood smiled.

"Plans are in motion in Far Mile. We will attack those furthest away from Brookhaven and slowly push in. Esmond will be forced to deal with that along with the military. Using the crime we evoke annoyance to the regime."

Byles smiled. "Fine. But I need you to do something about the Mayor. It’s the only way forward."

Blackwood clicked his tongue as he rubbed his chin. "I’ll scare him. If that doesn’t work then will see from there. We just cant give a reason to let him have more control." Byles hesitantly nodded and got up.

"We have one chance, Blackwood. We need to strike whilst it’s still possible. I’ll begin getting the clergy on our side in the meantime." Blackwood nodded getting up.

"Get things ready to pay Mayor Desmond a visit," Blackwood spoke to the cloaked figure following him who nodded slipping out of the room.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Desmond sat in his office working on papers. A thin smile sat on his lips as he looked at the new proposals from the church crossing those out which he could reject. It got harder and harder as time passed but he still found new excuses for it. Meanwhile looking at the Alfred he just ticked them not bothering to give a full read.

He could see enough to know they were possible and if they weren’t he just needed to make it so they were. His pen touched the paper but a sudden ruffling followed by a groan outside caused him to pause and look up through his brows. The door opened slowly as two men walked in.

Their faces were covered and no discernable features could be seen. Putting his pen down Desmond leaned back on his chair and took a cigar out. One threw an object, an arch of blood following it as it landed on his desk, soaking the documents. He clicked his tongue and took a deep inhale of his cigar.

He recognized the head in an instant, it being one of his secretaries. Gently running his hand over their eyes he closed them and looked at the two figures. He took another inhale of his cigar and blew out. "So." He said calmly not showing an ounce of fear, only betrayed by his bouncing foot. "What now?"

One figure walked closer and stood before the desk. It took a peak at the sheets that were nearly unreadable from the blood before stabbing a knife into the one with the Empire’s policies. "It stops now." His voice was cold, almost robotic as he spoke and Desmond could understand in an instant who sent the two.

Taking an inhale of his cigar he blew out towards the figure. "Okay." He politely smiled and looked up at where their eyes would be. Looking back at the other figure he gave a nod, pulling the knife out of Desmond’s desk and leaving.

Looking at the night sky he laughed. "I should stop working at night." He tried to calm himself but getting up and walking to the door he saw the bodies of his guards littered on the ground.

"It seems they can’t kill me." Looking at all the bloodshed it was the one thing that became obvious. That finally calmed him as the nervous tapping in his foot disappeared.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alfred walked into his room where Isra slept peacefully. Her breathing was soft and he couldn’t help but sit and watch her. It calmed his mind. Reaching out he gently grabbed her black hair and held it. The slight movement awoke her as she tiredly looked up at Alfred.

"sorry." He spoke quietly but she didn’t care grabbing him and pulling him into the bed.

"you look happier." Isra quietly muttered as she looked through half-closed eyes at Alfred.

"everything is going well," Grabbing her he pulled her in. "and I don’t have your nagging as much." He said playfully getting a knee in the leg from her. "I’m joking. no, you’ve been a massive help Isra."

"mmmmm." A gentle moan left her mouth as she snuggled deeper into his chest. "it’s fun." She said nearly falling asleep again with Alfred stroking her hair.

"good. but you should see Edward. he misses spending so much time with you."

"maybe." Despite her words, Alfred could hear she was happy that her son missing her. "come with me tomorrow?" The pleading tired voice sounded cute to Alfred’s ears who happily brought her in for a deeper hug as he prepared to sleep.

"sure."

Isra got herself comfy as she enjoyed the warm embrace. "i want another kid I think." her tired words were followed by gentle breathing but they made Alfred wake up as he froze. The words repeated in his mind over and over.

’maybe its time.’He said to himself in his mind and tried to think about it, but the idea of having sex made him recall the hunter hut. His breathing sped up as he calmed down and leaned into Isra, breathing in her scent. The rage and nausea slowly died and only after a minute did it disappear.
",1420,"2026-06-03T11:17:48.775Z","2026-06-03T11:17:51.400Z",1,"novelbin.me","d8742cdec50f8a2b82d671c7bf46196d4fe33afacc46709befd43d9aaf52fc31","the-reborn-king-chapter-301","the-reborn-king-chapter-199",487,"https://novelzhen.com/images/covers/the-reborn-king-cover.jpg"]
