Villagers saw it and closed their windows as Unyielding Soldiers silently shaped their weapons. Esmond sat alone in one of the carriages at the head of the convoy. He had been all around the Safrid lands cleaning up the triaots of the nations and preparing for the new Duchies that would be in their place.

The carriage came to a halt, and Esmond took a deep breath and got out. Stretching his limbs, he could tell his body was slowing down and getting older, but he pushed it aside. The guards at the gate watched as the Unyielding quickly got out and organised themselves into a neat line behind Esmond. Reaching into his pocket, he approached the guards.

"By order of the Empress and Prime Minister, I have been ordered to arrest the Baron for treason. Resistance or protection of the Earl will mean your arrest for assisting in his crimes." Esmond said coldly and watched as the guards stood to the side.

"The Baron is sick. His son has taken charge of his affairs." The guard said quietly, and Esmond looked at him briefly.

"I know." With a short reply, Esmond lifted his hand and made a symbol. The Unyielding quickly split. Some went around the back to block any escape, others kept their line at the front gate, and the rest followed Esmond.

Esmond strolled through the gates into the small manor. A few servants screamed at the sudden military presence and were quickly escorted out, leaving only the family.

Going up the steps, Esmond let himself into one of the offices, where a young man jumped up in surprise. Seeing Esmond, he sighed and lowered his head. "It’s time." His voice was not angry or fearful; instead, it was a sigh; he was expecting it. The man stood up and reached for his drawer. Esmond watched and nodded, the Unyeilding moving forward.

"DEATH TO THE EMPEROR!" The man charged at the Unyielding guard in a desperate but futile attempt. Esmond didn’t react. He had seen a few men like that already leap at him as if wanting to decide their fate. The Unyielding soldier slipped past the hidden blade he was attacked with and easily knocked the man to the ground.

In a swift motion, the other pierced his sword through the man’s back, killing him in seconds. Turning, the three walked out and went to the master bedroom. With each step, a coughing from inside got louder. The door flew open, and Esmond saw the old man lying in bed, coughing blood into a napkin being held by an old woman at his side.

"What...What is this?" The woman stood up in fright and blocked her husband from Esmond. Esmond sighed and looked at the man.

"You have been found guilty of treason." The old man pushed himself up and grabbed his wife’s hand after hearing Esmond. She quickly turned to look at her husband in confusion, his bony fingers stroking her cheek.

"Don’t.... worry." With a raspy voice, he suppressed the urge to cough as long as he could and turned away, hurling out more blood. The old woman shook her head and turned to face Esmond.

"This is a mistake. My husband has been bedridden for a year now. Surely you made a mistake." It was a desperate plea, but as if realising something, she looked behind Esmond, "Where’s my son?"

"Executed." Esmond gave no sympathy and inched closer. The woman’s eyes shook as she grabbed her head. Her mouth opened as she breathed heavily.

"No, no, no. My boy. My only boy," Looking up with her eyes, she stared daggers into Esmond. "You..." Maddness swirled in the reyes as she charged at Esmond with her thin arms.

"Yas..." The man tried to stop his wife, but clutching his chest, he coughed even harder. The old woman ran at Esmond, wildly swinging. An Unyielding stepped forward and grabbed her wrist. Spinning her around, he threw her onto the bed and tied her up. The man looked at Esmond with hateful eyes. "You...puppet...of...Sol..." The man said, disgusted as he crawled out of the bed. Collapsing on the floor, he edged closer to Esmond.

Another Unyeilding picked him up, holding him straight. Esmond walked over with cold eyes. "Your son has committed treason. As you have no heirs remaining, your land will be stripped from you and given to another." The old man looked at Esmond from over the Unyielding shoulder and cleared his throat.

"Die..." With a single word full of hatred and bitterness, he stared at Esmond. The old man could only suppress it for so long before another coughing fit started. His bloodied spit flew over the Unyielding shoulder and splattered Esmond’s face. Esmond tried to step back but failed and quickly wiped his face with a handkerchief.

Turning around, he found the servants’ quarters and grabbed a rag. Dunking it into a bucket of water, he quickly wiped his face before dipping his hands in and filling his mouth with water. Spitting it out, he looked back into the hall and fixed his appearance before leaving. From behind, the servants were given their monthly wage by Unyeilding guards before being sent away.

The crying old woman and her coughing husband soon followed Esmond and were thrown into a cart being dragged by horses. The gate was locked behind them, and it rode off, first transporting them to a nearby prison. Esmond watched and saw another soldier walk out with the son’s body covered in a blanket, laid into another carriage that was taken away. Happy with the result, he grabbed a paper and pen and crossed off another name, ready to head to another.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Alice," Isra watched as the woman slowly rose from her kneeling position. Her infectious smile was pure as she made her way closer to Isra.

"Your Majesty." With a polite bow, she looked around. "Why have you come? We don’t have service. Are you here to see how the extension of the Cathedral is coming along?" Alice said happily as she looked back at the stonemasons busily carving away at the statues depicting the Gods.

"No. Please sit." Pointing to one of the pews, she took a seat. Ordinary citizens silently prayed around them as clergymen and sisters dutifully cleaned. The Royal Guards looked out of place in a place that felt so holy, but no one dared to look at them, focusing on their own duties.

"How is the Prince?" Alice asked with slight sadness, and Isra bitterly smiled, resting her hand on Alice’s leg.

"My son is strong. He will get better." Alice smiled and nodded at Isra’s words.

"The world seems unfair and cruel, but the Gods are not. They only test those whom they know can persevere through them. The Prince is being tested because he is the future of this world. A child born to the Blessed One of Sol and a daughter of Khors. He will pull through, especially with your care."

Isra smiled sweetly at her words, "The Gods aren’t evil. Man is. What happened to my son was the work of humans, not the Gods. It’s why what you do is so important."

Alice looked around and peacefully closed her eyes. "The world will be a better place when the Gods are reunited under one faith again."

"That’s what I want to discuss." Isra cut in. If she let Alice ramble, she would never be able to get to her point. "My husband formed the Pantheon because the Gods told him this truth. They sent you because you are the shepherd for this mission. But I don’t think it’s enough. The attempt on my son’s life told me this."

Isra paused and looked down. Thinking of Edward, her eyes hardened, and a fierce desire to protect him filled her mind. Alice grabbed her hand and waited patiently. After a few seconds, Isra breathed out and looked at her: "I want to give the Pantheon land in the Empire. Create a place where I know the rule of the Gods will be followed. I need you, Alice. Edward does. Alfred does."

"Land?" Alice looked confused.

"Yes. The Empire is being held back by those who refuse to embrace the change that the Gods want. Even after all our work, all the sins we were forced to commit, the people are still greedy, vengeful, and closed-minded." Isra looked deep into Alice’s mind. The purity in them was only overshadowed by an intense zeal. "If the people see that there is a land for the Gods, one solely for them, they will become more open-minded, embrace the future and hopefully save their souls."

Alice lowered her head and a small smile on her lips, "A holy land." She paused and shook her head, "We already live on the most holy. Every step we take is a step on the beloved daughter’s body, but man forgets that. They don’t see the blessing she is." Looking back up, Alice stared into Isra’s eyes, the burning zeal even fiercer, "Maybe this way, they will come to understand. A land for the Gods, somewhere to direct their faith."

"Exactly." Isra said quickly, "You will run it, Alice. You can make a reality the vision you have for the Gods—the peace and harmony we crave. Alfred will love it."

Alice looked at Isra and nodded, "Okay. A land for the Gods. I’ll make it happen."
",1591,"2026-06-03T11:17:48.775Z","2026-06-03T11:17:51.400Z",1,"novelbin.me","ff6300aae99e6e8a8d5ea6ac55860e230648d70ef27589d42604f0f8597a5dc0","the-reborn-king-chapter-346","the-reborn-king-chapter-344",487,"https://novelzhen.com/images/covers/the-reborn-king-cover.jpg"]
