Although he couldn’t see clearly over the wall, the sight he had was enough to see Octavius’ reserve forces marching on the city.

"Tch... Send a messenger to those back at the camp to start marching." Magnus ordered the man next to him with a calm, authoritative tone.

"Your grace. It will take at least an hour before they arrive." The man lowered his eyes at Magnus’s sharp gaze.

"Do what I have ordered. Rush them if you must." The man nodded and ran off. Looking at the army approaching once again, Magnus took a deep breath and looked within the city. Cassius had broken through the first line of defence, forcing Octavius to mobilise more troops to defend his flank.

’A race against time. If Cassius can deal with this quickly enough, we won’t have to worry about the approaching forces.’Magnus grabbed his chin and watched. He wondered if he should warn his forces about the approaching army coming to encircle them. On one hand, it would give them time to prepare as the word spread, but on the other, it could break his forces’ resolve. Cassius had managed to break through and was charging for Julius’ position.

If he said something now, he could destroy all the momentum that Cassius had.’No. Cassius knows our plan requires speed. I can’t risk distracting him now.’Magnus turned his focus away from Cassius and looked around.

"YOU!" Shouting out at a nearby commander who was watching from above, the soldier turned and slammed his fist on his chest, "Take the fourth and seventh regiment and prepare a defence for an encirclement. Do not warn any of the others."

"At once." The commander slammed his fist on his chest once more and ran off. Looking at the fourth and seventh, who were in charge of clearing out the skirmishing forces, he frowned. Although they weren’t untrained peasants, compared to the rest of the army, they were the worst.’Let’s hope they are good enough to hold the line.’

With a deep breath, Magnus looked at the situation below. His eyes were confident as he watched, not doubting his own victory to come.

------------------

Ramiel ran through the streets of the city with his templars. In the distance, the sound of multiple men running toward him bounced and echoed off the walls. Ramiel lifted his hand up and came to a stop. "SHEILD WALL!" The Templars planted their feet to the ground and lifted the shields. Lifting their swords, they stared coldly ahead, waiting for the approaching enemy.

Ramiel grabbed the necklace around his neck and silently prayed with it. His eyes were closed as if the approaching wave of men didn’t exist. "May your light bless us." Saying to himself in a quiet voice, he brought the symbol of Sol to his lips and gave it a small kiss before opening his eyes and seeing Cassius and his men rushing at him.

Putting the necklace under his armour like it was his prized possession, Ramiel lifted his shield and sword up. His soft, gentle eyes hardened as he stared at Cassius. The two realised each other’s roles in an instant. Their armour and aura gave away that they were the leaders of their respective forces.

’I must try and not kill him.’Cassius internally groaned seeing Ramiel. Whilst Magnus and the church were at war at the moment, his cousin had explicitly told him he didn’t wish to become their enemy after the civil war. Being enemies with the church would make the future ruler illegitimate. As the Holy Seat’s Guardian, the approval or at least unspoken acceptance of the Pontiff was necessary.

Seeing one of the four Grand Templars before him, he knew he couldn’t take it easy or he would risk dying.’Surely Magnus won’t blame me for killing him in battle. Sometimes we have no other choice.’Nodding to himself, Cassius made up his mind. He wouldn’t hold back and strike to kill. If Ramiel lived but was injured, that was good enough. If he died, it would simply be another casualty of war.

It took ten seconds for Cassius to come to that conclusion, and as soon as he did, he slammed into the Templar’s shield wall. His face was inches from Ramiels, and staring into his eyes, he saw the deep, tranquil gaze hidden beneath a sharp coldness.

Cassius smiled and pulled his sword back. Swinging down, Rameil blocked easily and stabbed forward. Deflecting the blow away, it nearly killed one of his comrades as the blow cut across his armour. Cassius paid no attention and used the momentum of dragging his shield back to throw a punch forward, throwing his weight behind it.

Ramiel quickly tried to pull his sword back and lifted the shield to intercept the punch. As the two shields collided, Cassius’s iron-rimmed shield smashed through Ramiel’s, splitting it down the middle as wooden shards flew out. It barely hung together, and Ramiel didn’t hesitate. Pulling his sword back, he cut the straps off his arms.

"NEW SHEILD!" Ramiel shouted out as he held his arm behind him. "COVER ME!" With his sword, he desperately deflected Cassius’ barrage of attacks. Some attacks slipts through cutting his face, arms and neck, but due to his timely order, the Templars by his side helped block the attack.

Feeling a pair of leather straps tightening around his left arm and the weight of his new shield, Ramiel smiled and, copying Cassius, swung forward when he least expected it. The wooden shield slammed into Cassius’ chest, making all the air leave his body. Raising his sword, Ramiel swung down his strike, being intercepted by a nearby soldier.

Cassius took a few deep breaths and backed up, letting someone take his place. Looking into Ramiel’s eyes, he saw the tranquil gaze focusing on his enemy, as he waited for the perfect moment to strike.

---------------------------------

Outside the walls, Commander Cyril led the heavy cavalry unit that was tasked with escorting the reserve forces. In the distance, he saw the enemy cavalry circling around the walls, approaching. "BRACE!" Cryil gave the command for the infantry he was leading before leading the charge into the enemy.

The horses were tired after so long of riding, but Cyril knew they could hold on for a little longer. They were the best of the Empire, bred to be beasts of war. They feared nothing and would ride into hell with their rider.

Cyril patted his black stallion through the small gap of his armour, and as if responding to his touch, it let out a deep breath as it picked up the speed. Each man personally raised their horses and formed a bond that couldn’t be broken. They moved as one, trusting each other completely.

Cyril lifted his hand up and held his shield by his side. As mud and dust kicked up around them, Cyril looked ahead at the approaching cavalry charge. The two sides rapidly closed the gap, and Cyril lifted his sword. Swinging out to his right, he swung without properly aiming at the rider on his right and focusing completely on deflecting the attack on his left.

His sword hit something hard, as he buckled slightly, using his legs to climb onto his steed’s body to hold him up. Deflecting a blow on his left, he charged through, a fury of blows coming towards him. The colliding forces sounded like an explosion as many of the riders directly hit one another, the horses colliding and falling to the ground, crushing their rider.

Cyril stayed up and desperately swung both his shield and sword, blocking attacks when he could. It was mayhem as ally and foe got lost in the sea of beasts and humans. Cyril scanned around and heard the large sound behind him as a few of his enemies slipped through and hit the marching infantry.

Cyril paid it no mind and swung. His sword cut into the flesh of men and horses alike, the agonising cries of both overlapping over one another. He was slowly absorbed into the battle, and his horse’s heavy breathing was obvious beneath its armour. Small wounds appeared on its flesh as a streak of blood flowed from beneath its heavy armour.

Cryil took a few deep breaths and kicked the side of his mount. Knowing what the rider wanted, the horse tried to find a path to escape from the battle. Every man had the same idea, not wishing to get caught up in the congregation of the battle and complete another charge. Breaking out the engagement. Cryil looked towards the infantry. They had split into two, with half of the forces running around the wall, in the moment of conflict, using it as a chance to complete the encircling unnoticed. Those still with me used the chance and ran for the wall.

The gates had been closed by Magnus, and arrow fire rained down from above, but they quickly reached the siege towers Magnus had previously used. Creating a shield wall around its base, the first of the reserve forces finally began to scale the wall and start the encirclment.

Cryil smiled, seeing this as he and his men quickly gathered. "DEFEND THE INFANTRY! ALLOW THEM TO COMPLETE THEIR SIEGE!" Looking over at his second, he took a deep breath, "SPLIT OFF AND DEFEND THE OTHER FORCE!" His second nodded and took those under his command, following behind those that had run off to another part of the wall, as Cyril and his men used the momentary peace to catch their breath.

It lasted for a minute before their enemy returned. Cyril took a deep breath and charged in. The reversed siege had begun, and all he could do now was buy time.
",1642,"2026-06-03T11:17:48.775Z","2026-06-03T11:17:51.401Z",1,"novelbin.me","31cae3393ffaa84db6ef592727a528e8b317c6dc8563a03d1afc9c5d3ce728b4","the-reborn-king-chapter-419","the-reborn-king-chapter-417",487,"https://novelzhen.com/images/covers/the-reborn-king-cover.jpg"]
