Closing his eyes, he felt the earth slightly shake. Horns blew from ahead of him, confirming his theory as his men rushed about to prepare for the battle at Octavius’s orders.

"Finally." His scouts had sent him word that Magnus was within a day’s march away. Knowing this, it didn’t take long for his men to get ready. Some stationed themselves atop the small hills, the rest created shield walls through the gaps between the hills and a large one on the main road.

Putting his helmet on, Ovtavius ran up the nearest hill and looked out. Magnus Clavery was charging ahead, whilst the main army slowly moved, ready to attack. Looking east, Octavius saw his cavalry flanking, ready to intercept. Smiling and taking a deep breath, Octavius watched, excited that he had the chance to finally put an end to the rebellion and rebuild.

---------------------------

"THIS IS IT, MEN!" Pulling his sword out, Cyril led the charge, pointing his blade forward. "TODAY, WE WILL END THIS WAR! IF WE DIE, WE SHALL DRINK IN SOL’S KINGDOM. IF WE LIVE, WE WILL BE RICH!" His voice was excited, and slamming the reins on his horse, he saw the enemy cavalry up ahead.

Turning right, he avoided. His orders were not to deal with the enemy cavalry but the infantry./ Octavius knew he was staking a risk by not having him deal with it, but justified his actions, saying the hills gave a natural defence against it. Cyril had faith in Octavius’s plans and, after hearing a solid argument, happily followed his orders.

Leading his two hundred men for a charge, Magnus’s soldiers hurriedly prepared, building a spear wall. Cyril circled around, trying to find a weak point.’Cassius is good. He expected this.’Circling around, he could hear the enemy cavalry was chasing him, an idea coming to mind.

"ATTACK AND BREAK!" Cyril screamed and eyed the weakest point. Turning towards the enemy’s lines, he slammed through a wall of spears alongside his men. Trampling over a man after man, they could hardly counterattack, the tsunami of men and horses crushing them. Those that could get an attack off struggled to pierce the armour of the horses, finding the best luck in knocking the riders off.

Cyril didn’t bother to swing his sword or attack; his horse was enough of a weapon as it was. Looking behind him, he saw the enemy cavalry quickly pull back to avoid trampling their own men. Cyril smiled and raised his sword to get his men to see him.

They followed closely behind, after breaking free from the enemy lines, quickly reforming into an arrow formation. Circling back around, the enemy cavalry rushed around to intercept, but failed to do so in time. In a second wave, he charged through the back lines again, decimating all that got in his way. Cyril smiled at the sight and engaged in battle deep within the lines. His attacks were quick and heavy, and whilst he swung his sword, his steed used its weight to attack, knocking men over and trampling them.

The two were in sync with one another, able to easily adapt to how one another moved. Years of war had made them become one when Cyril rode on its back. The two thought like one another, and even if it wasn’t human, Cryril had more faith in his steed than any man on the battlefield.

"BREAK!" Cyril shouted at the top of his lungs and charged through the enemy lines to escape. He heard the heavy panting of the beast below him, wishing to escape. Looking around, he could see that they were about to lose the advantage they had. A trail of bodies followed their path, be it man or horse.

In the open field, Cyril saw the dirt kicking up in front of him, felt the rumbling of the ground and the deafening sound of hundreds of beasts of war charging at him. "BREAK!" Cryril ordered and leaned to the right, leading his men away from the head-on collision.

The collision was only a matter of seconds away, and some unlucky enough to not react in time, clashed into the enemy line, were slaughtered before they could react. The pained cries of both men and horse echoed on the field. With no time to count his losses, Cyril looked around and charged toward the hills, his allies were stationed upon.

Getting closer, arrow fire flew from atop the hill at the two armies that had already met, the tight choke point between the hills having become a slaughterhouse for friend and foe alike. The enemy cavalry broke off without getting close and circled around the hill to hit the back of Octavius’ forces. Cryil paid no attention to it and turned into the choke point.

Slamming into the side of Magnus forces, he didn’t know who was underneath his feet, if he killed enemies or friendlies, but without the desire to know or check, he forced his way forward, sliding down on the wall of bodies that stopped him.

His enemy was quick to react, creating a gap for him to dive deeper into. It was a trap, one made without orders but from years of experience facing Calvery forces. Cyril knew they would surround him if he dove deeper, but without an escape path, it was all he could do. Forcing his way forward, he and his men knew not to stay and engage, rushing forward with one goal in mind: to escape.

From below, he heard the deep neigh of his horse as a stray attack slipped through the gaps of its armour and tore open its flesh. Kicking up slightly, Cyril tightly grabbed the reins and tried to calm it down, making it focus on escaping. The horse pushed forward through the pain and ran forward, clearing a path to the other side.

Cryril took numerous deep breaths, the hairs over his body standing on end at the cold grasp of death he felt. Looking behind, he saw numerous of his men had fallen or were trapped desperately fighting to the bitter end. All he could do was grit his teeth and leave them behind, circle behind the hill and have a small rest.

---------------------------------

Octavius watched everything from the hilltop. Cyril had done enough, having disrupted the Magnus back lines long enough to give them time to prepare. Although Magnus Calvary was behind his lines, Octavius didn’t worry too much, the hills providing enough protection to slow them down before they attacked.

Refocusing on the enemy ahead of him, the tight choke point had become a stalemate, with archer fire flying in from both sides. Looking down at the gap in the hills behind him, Octavius blew his horn to get their attention and lifted one of many small flags he had holstered in his belt. Raising it up for the commander to see, he swung down to finally unleash them.

The commander understood instantly and led his forces around the hill, charging towards the enemy’s flank. The enemy cavalry saw what was happening and quickly reorganised to charge towards the flanking forces. Clicking his tongue, Octavius looked towards Cryril in the distance and raised his flag again, swinging it up and down in three heavy motions, stopping a few seconds nd doing so again.

It took a while for Cyril to see what Octavius was signalling to him, but once he did, he knew their rest was over. Leading his men, a gap opened in their allies’ ranks to let them pass. Octavius watched as Cyril led his charge to intercept the enemy cavalry and refocused on the battle ahead. From behind, Magnus’ men began to flank to the left hill, the commander Octavius placed don that side quickly organising the men in hiding below to intercept the charge.

’Soon. It’s not time yet.’Cyril’s cavalry slammed into Magnus’s, blocking the enemy charge. The two clashing sounds resembled an eruption, but to Octavius, it was a clashing sound, one that signalled his encirclment could begin now. He was staking everything he had on this battle, and looking at the men fighting, he expected many of them to die for his plans to work.

Octavius analysed the battle. His mind was racing to make sure he didn’t miss the perfect moment to begin the second stage. He worried about this western flank, watching more and more of Magnus’s men charge around. All he could do was trust in the commander, the had dealing with the flank, hoping he could hold firm and buy time until he could be reinforced.
",1449,"2026-06-03T11:17:48.775Z","2026-06-03T11:17:51.401Z",1,"novelbin.me","0e05e33d0c7cb42a892d7e09ca74b348fd85a973701822b1dcb5997ee6c5f706","the-reborn-king-chapter-431","the-reborn-king-chapter-429",487,"https://novelzhen.com/images/covers/the-reborn-king-cover.jpg"]
