Chapter 41: If you dote on them, will you surpass me?

~6 min read 1,187 words

Zi Su, go buy what I need.

Take this drawing and give it to Steward Yun; have them make it for me over there.

Jiang Yunchu returned to Wang Fu and immediately handed several sheets to Zi Su; some sheets were covered with diagrams, one after another, drawn as something unknown.

The rest was simpler: just some materials, and none of them were expensive.

"I'll arrange this right away," Zi Su said, then she left.

"Zi Wu, have someone tidy the side courtyard; guests are coming tomorrow." Jiang Yunchu sighed. How to say it? Does she have the right to choose?

"Yes!" Zi Wu received the order and left.

"Who's coming?" Ning Hanmo took a sip of plum soup; the sweet-and-sour taste was incredibly refreshing.

"The Kang Clan—I don't know how many children they have; they might come to visit, or stay and study with you."

Jiang Yunchu didn't intend to keep it from him; he now had enough independent judgment to decide many things for himself.

"What do you think?"

Ning Hanmo's motion of drinking the plum soup paused, then quickly returned to normal.

His eyes looked elsewhere as he spoke calmly, "If you dote on them, will you love them more than me?"

He could no longer compare to Yue Yue, but Yue Yue is a little girl, so he wouldn't quarrel with her!

But the outside dog must not surpass him.

Jiang Yunchu looked at the little one; the little one's furtive glance at her showed a wary expression.

She smiled helplessly. "I've never even seen it!"

Ning Hanmo seemed, in some sense, to have received comfort in his heart.

"It's fine; you've seen me, and you'll surely dote on me even more—I'm such a good child, there aren't many like me."

If it weren't for the little one's cautious probing, she would have really believed it.

But...

Jiang Yunchu nodded nonchalantly. "That's right—don't even look at whose child you are."

"My Jiang Yunchu's little ones are naturally the best—who could compare them to anyone else?"

When Ning Hanmo heard the first sentence, he hadn't reacted yet; after hearing the second, his whole face broke into a smile, though he tried to hold back the upturned corners of his mouth, coughing, "Although I'm so good, we still need to keep a low profile."

"Otherwise, the Kang Fu children ought to—"

"Exactly, they'd feel inferior."

"That's what you said before—the Kang Fu children should feel inferior, and then you won't be able to explain what to do."

Jiang Yunchu now dared not laugh; she could only nod solemnly while watching the praised little one, whose tail was practically sticking up to the sky, her inner self already bursting with laughter.

"Jiang Yunchu, rest assured—I'll get along well with them, and even if they're slow, I'll teach them."

"If they don't listen, I'll keep an eye on them for you."

"I'll certainly not cause you any trouble."

The little child patted his chest with a bang-bang, his whole face showing he'd taken on this bunch of rascals.

Jiang Yunchu rubbed his head; that thirty-year lifespan suddenly seemed like nothing.

Watching a group of children emerge from darkness into light, crawling out of hell with their own strength—how could this not be the meaning of her rebirth?

Enough!

Let's leave it at that.

Jiang Yunchu looked at Ning Hanmo; this child truly was full of surprises everywhere.

Unconsciously, he gave her strength and the drive to move forward.

"Yun chu!" a crisp little voice sounded; the little one pouted, her chubby face unconsciously scrunched up.

Jiang Yunchu lifted the little girl into her arms, asking, "Who upset our Yue Yue? Why aren't you happy?"

She used a handkerchief to wipe the dirt from her face, then gently asked.

Ning Hanmo also watched; he used to envy Yue Yue's treatment, but no longer.

He's a man, tasked with upholding the Wang Fu—how could he vie for affection with a little girl?

"You go out to play and never take Yue Yue, but Yue Yue wants to go out and play." Ning Yue Xue was a little unhappy; every time it was Yun chu and her brother going out, yet she could only stay inside the Wang Fu.

Those people aren't fun at all; they've played their daily games to exhaustion. She also wants to be by Yun chu's side and can help Yun chu.

"Oh? Yue Yue isn't happy." Jiang Yunchu frowned, looking puzzled.

It was just like a magic trick—out of her behind appeared a candied haw.

She waved the candied haw in front of Yue Yue's eyes, asking, "Could this candied haw make Yue Yue a bit happier?"

"Candied haw!"

"Yun chu is amazing, Yun chu is the best."

"Yun chu, Yue Yue loves you so much, so cute, so especially dear."

The little girl's head-shaking and arm-waving was adorable; she then kissed Jiang Yunchu's face with a big mua~, making Jiang Yunchu unable to stop laughing.

"Mischievous—let Zi Wu watch him eat; Gun Gun finished eating, must throw it away, sit properly to eat."

Before Jiang Yunchu could finish her instructions, Yue Yue piped up, "I know—when eating, don't move; when finished, drink water, otherwise your teeth will grow little bugs."

"That's good—go on."

Jiang Yunchu put her on the ground, carefully placed the candied haw in her hand, watching the little one being restless, hopping out of the house; however, Zi Wu was standing guard outside—those words were actually meant for Zi Wu, since Yue Yue is so young, what could she possibly control herself?

"Envious?"

Jiang Yunchu turned and looked toward Ning Hanmo.

He had just swallowed, and Jiang Yunchu didn't miss it.

Ning Hanmo shook his head, "No way—I'm a grown man, how could I eat something only little girls eat?"

It was his gaze, constantly fixed on the courtyard, on Yue Yue eating candied hawthorn.

He forced himself to turn his head, but his gaze remained just as uncontrollable.

"You…… you don't want this one?"

Jiang Yunchu performed another magic trick; her hands were clearly empty, yet something suddenly appeared.

Ning Hanmo widened his eyes.

"You……"

"Is this for me?"

The last time was when Jiang Yunchu returned home; she had promised Yue Yue to buy candied hawthorn, and she also bought some for herself.

But this time, I didn't want any.

Did she also buy some for herself?

So does she actually feel some pity for herself?

In Ning Hanmo's little head, all sorts of thoughts were going through.

"Want it or not!" Jiang Yunchu held it out to Ning Hanmo.

But Ning Hanmo shook his head. "Jiang Yunchu, you eat it; you girls love eating this the most."

"Yue Yue is a girl, and so are you."

"You eat it yourself."

Little guy, putting on a stern face, hasn't even started class yet, yet he's acting like a little scholar.

His prim and proper manner is utterly adorable.

"Little guy, Yun chu can do magic."

Jiang Yunchu laughed happily; inside she was still very happy. Their days of tension and conflict seemed to have vanished since that life experience.
