Chapter 250: Visitors
Hot Spring District, 55 Chestnut Street, inside a three-story gray-blue building with a garden, lawn, and stable.
The band in the corner played a soft melody. The owner here, Bono Goodwill, held a glass of golden champagne, moving between different guests, communicating with them about the aftermath of the chemical plant explosion, wanting to avoid his responsibility to the greatest extent and obtain generous compensation from the insurance company.
He occasionally chatted with the wives of government officials, occasionally talked with his lawyer, and occasionally communicated with important figures in other aspects of this matter.
He was like a natural party animal, agile in mind and full of energy in such an occasion. His deep-blue-near-black eyes and the thick brown beard at the corners of his mouth were all reflecting the light of the crystal chandelier, flashing brightly.
After bypassing a guest who wasn't considered important with a waltz step, Bono Goodwill met Travis Everett.
This police superintendent of the Honest Market District wasn't wearing a uniform, wearing a black formal suit, a blue bow tie, and holding a glass of pale-gold champagne in his hand.
"Superintendent Everett, you must protect me well during this period!" Bono Goodwill said to Travis Everett with a smile, "Quite a few people died in that explosion, and I'm worried that their relatives will do something excessive."
Everett pushed his black-rimmed glasses and smiled:
"This is the Hot Spring District, I can't manage it. And, after I entered this street, I could clearly feel that the frequency and intensity of the police squad's patrols were much higher than normal."
"Hm, didn't you also hire quite a few bodyguards? What is there to worry about? Those who died were all ordinary workers; they couldn't possibly threaten you. Besides, they don't even know where you live."
Everett started joking:
"If those injured people and their families who couldn't get accident compensation quickly and had to leave the hospital early to wait for death knew that you were still holding a banquet, still using a lot of good wine to entertain guests, and even hired a small symphony orchestra to accompany, they really might lose their reason and drag you and your family into the abyss as well."
Bono Goodwill laughed awkwardly:
"The banquet has nothing to do with the compensation. I have to abide by the law and wait for the verdict."
"Superintendent Everett, if I return to the Market District to handle things, I hope you can send two or three police officers to protect me."
Everett nodded lightly:
"This is my duty, but I need to remind you that quite a few police officers' families worked in your chemical plant."
He was using this to pressure Bono Goodwill for his subordinates, hoping they could get compensation as soon as possible.
Bono Goodwill nodded silently, not caring too much.
This banquet lasted until midnight. In the various lingering scents, Bono Goodwill hugged his three children one by one and went to the third floor.
He loosened his bow tie while returning to the bedroom with his wife.
With a slap, the gas wall lamp was lit, and Bono Goodwill's gaze suddenly became dull.
He saw a person sitting on his favorite armchair.
That person's body was leaning slightly forward, clearly sitting, but looking at Bono Goodwill with a posture of looking down.
He was wearing gray-blue worker's overalls, wearing a dark-blue duckbill cap, and his face was wrapped in circles of white bandages, revealing only blue eyes and two nostrils.
Bono Goodwill was shocked in his heart and was about to open his mouth to call for help loudly.
But before this, a semi-illusory crimson flame crow had already condensed behind that visitor who "rushed to visit," flying out with a swoosh, hitting Bono Goodwill's teeth exactly.
With a light sound of bang, Bono Goodwill's mouth became charred black, and two teeth fell out, hurting him until his expression was completely twisted, and his scream was blocked back.
At this time, he and his wife were both pressed against their backs by a sharp dagger.
Franca and Jenna had already emerged from behind the door, closing the bedroom door behind them as they did so, and had each subdued their respective targets.
One of them was wearing a black robe with a hood and leather armor, their face hidden in the shadows; the other was in a men's linen shirt paired with a brown jacket, dark brown trousers, and unlaced leather boots, wearing a silver-white metal mask that covered only the upper half of their face and revealed their eyes.
Franca used her other hand to support Bono Goodwill, avoiding him from falling to the ground and rolling due to pain.
Lu Mi remained in his sitting posture, smiled, and said:
"Mr. Goodwill, just now was only a warning, otherwise your mouth would have been completely blown to pieces, not just two teeth falling out, and a bit of injury."
Bono Goodwill's wife finally came back to her senses and asked in terror:
"Who are you? What are you doing?"
"Who am I?" Lu Mi laughed, "You can treat me as your father."
After speaking, he glanced at Franca.
Franca immediately took out the "Truth Serum" Lu Mi had given her before the action and poured some into Bono Goodwill's mouth.
Lu Mi waited for the effect to take hold while smiling and saying:
"Mr. Goodwill, I really didn't expect to be able to see you so easily and have a friendly exchange with you. You make me a bit disappointed."
Actually hasn't obtained a gift yet!
After Bono Goodwill was forced to drink the "Truth Serum," he asked with a bitter face:
"What do you want to do? There is a lot of money in my safe, all can be given to you!"
Hearing this sentence, Yu Jianna felt a burst of anger rise from her chest, rushing toward her head.
She raised her left foot abruptly and slapped it on the side of Bono Goodwill's lower leg with a slap.
If it weren't for the wrong position between each other, she would have preferred to attack between this bastard's legs!
Fuck your mother, take your money to the cemetery!
Bono Goodwill's body tilted, feeling as if his bones had cracked.
His instinctive scream was blocked in his mouth by the suddenly condensed frost.
Lu Mi nodded approvingly at Yu Jianna, and after Bono Goodwill calmed down a bit, he said:
"I want to know why you wanted to blow up your own chemical plant."
Bono Goodwill's expression changed, and he blurted out:
"How do you know?"
Before the words were finished, he wished he could raise his right hand and give himself a slap.
Facing this kind of question, shouldn't he have denied it first? Why did he say whatever he thought in his heart?
"Yo, very frank. I was just defrauding you, and you actually admitted it directly." Lu Mi used a tone that almost gave Bono Goodwill a cerebral hemorrhage.
Yu Jianna had another feeling of her soul leaving her body.
Although after Lu Mi's analysis, she already had a certain psychological preparation, she still couldn't believe it when she heard the answer.
How could there be such a bad person?
That destroyed hundreds of families!
After coming back to her senses, Yu Jianna bit her teeth tightly.
She was afraid that if she relaxed a little, her whole person would be ignited by anger and she would directly give Bono Goodwill a knife.
No, hundreds of knives!
Goodwill's wife was also looking at her husband with a shocked and fearful gaze.
She had originally thought that the chemical plant explosion was just a simple accident
Lu Mian looked at Benoit Goodwill with a cold gaze and said:
"Why did you do that? Does it have anything to do with someone in Congressman Yu Ge Artois's office?"
Upon hearing the latter question, Benoit Goodwill could no longer control his expression, revealing a look of mixed shock and terror.
After drinking that strange liquid and "admitting" that he had arranged for the chemical plant explosion, his psychological defenses had actually collapsed; at this moment, he was filled with the urge to drag others down with him to help share his own sins:
"It was Ronet and Tibert! They are Congressman Yu Ge Artois's secretary and assistant secretary.
"They kept hinting to me that the chemical plant was in disrepair and could explode at any time, so I should think of a way to obtain the insurance compensation I had previously purchased. And when the time came, Congressman Yu Ge Artois would even use the excuse of promoting the factory and developing the economy to protect the factory owner, and secure reconstruction funds and special compensation for me.
"They always said that everything decays, and my chemical plant was the same, so various problems appeared; rather than waiting for it to explode on its own, it would be better to use it to exchange for more benefits.
"I went to find them again yesterday morning. I don't know why, but my head suddenly became muddled, and I was persuaded by them. It wasn't until the explosion actually happened that I felt afraid, and I went to the congressman's office three whole times.
"They told me nothing would happen."
What a fool, he isn't even a believer in an evil god... Affected by supernatural abilities? Tibert was also talking about decay when he saw me disguised as Benoit Goodwill; what exactly are they trying to achieve? Lu Mian pondered for a moment, and just as he was about to ask for the details of the conversation, the sound of a bell being pulled suddenly came from the iron gate at the perimeter of the lawn.
Lu Mian quickly exchanged a glance with Franca, both having a guess:
At this time of day, someone visiting Benoit Goodwill and politely ringing the doorbell was either his friend or an official investigator!
Without a word, Lu Mian stood up, and Franca tacitly put away her dagger.
Seeing their movements, Jenna also reacted.
She took a diagonal step, raised her dagger, and forcefully stabbed it into Benoit Goodwill's shoulder.
Amidst a sizzling sound, fresh blood spurted out, and Benoit Goodwill let out a groan of pain.
Jenna did not linger, rushing first toward the window opposite the main entrance.
On her dagger, and in several places within the room, black flames ignited and quickly extinguished.
The three of them jumped out of the building one after another, climbed over the iron fence at the back of the garden, and disappeared into the night in the distance.
…………
The three-person team consisting of Angouleme, Valentine, and the half-breed Imre saw Benoit Goodwill, who had just finished bandaging his charred mouth, in the bedroom.
This factory owner said with an angry face:
"Officer, I was almost kidnapped by three thugs!"
Angouleme glanced at the scene, smiled, and said:
"We will investigate this matter later; for now, it's your problem."
"My problem?" Benoit Goodwill felt a jolt in his heart.
Angouleme nodded slightly:
"Let's first confirm your faith, and then talk about your visit to the congressman's office on the morning of the chemical plant explosion."
In the absence of sufficient evidence to take drastic measures against the congressman and his staff, the "Purifiers" shifted the focus of their investigation to Benoit Goodwill.
Benoit Goodwill, whose psychological defenses had already been broken, turned pale the moment he heard these words.
