Chapter 892: Regicide
The next morning.
Just after Lu Mi and the others had finished breakfast in their room and were waiting for Ludwig to clean up the remaining bits, they heard the doorbell ring.
Outside stood a half-giant youth over two meters tall, with disproportionately long limbs, short brown hair slightly curled and fluffy.
He had thick eyebrows and large eyes, a square face; after his gaze swept over Lu Mi, Fulanka, and Jianna, he instinctively lowered his head, staring at his toes and said:
"I'm here to find Lu Mi Li, uh, perhaps Madame Lu Mianna Li."
He spoke in Ancient Fusaic.
"That's me." Lu Mi understood this was the messenger sent by Mr. "Sun" to take him to the Twin Towers of New Silver City.
The Major Arcana card had apparently chosen a boy specifically to avoid an excessive height disparity.
The youth exhaled in relief and said apologetically:
"I've been ordered by the Council of Six to take you to the Twin Towers to meet Elder Dalek Berg."
"Alright." Lu Mi nodded to Jianna and Furan Ka, then followed the youth out of the inn toward the Twin Towers at the edge of New Silver City.
Along the way, the half-giant walked slightly ahead and to the side, his posture stiff, occasionally moving with arms and legs swinging in unison, as if he'd nearly forgotten how to walk normally.
He kept glancing back at Lu Mi, unsure what to say, then quickly turned his head forward again.
When they were halfway there, he finally thought of a suitable topic, turning slightly toward Lu Mi and asking:
"You… don't you worry I'm a bad person? Maybe I'm lying about the Council of Six ordering me to take you to meet Elder Dalek Berg?"
I could kill thirty of you like this in one breath… Lu Mi merely thought it to himself, not voicing it.
Partly because they were both followers of Mr. "Fool," and not close enough to mock; partly because Lu Mi felt that if his sister Aurora were here, she wouldn't answer in such a way.
He smiled faintly and said:
"No worry, because this is New Silver City."
The half-giant youth instantly brightened, speaking with genuine pride:
"Yes, the Lord has always taught us to be kind, to restrain ourselves. New Silver City strictly combats all crimes, especially theft and fraud…"
The half-giant youth opened up, endlessly recounting how Mr. "Fool" had once sent an angel to save Silver City, how he had granted this promised land, and how the citizens of Silver City had built New Silver City themselves.
Lu Mi had heard these stories repeatedly while drinking in New Silver City, but now he showed no impatience, letting the half-giant speak freely.
From his words, Lu Mi sensed a quiet, peaceful happiness.
Through this exchange, they arrived at the Twin Towers—the core structure of New Silver City—left tower with a spire housing public facilities like the library, right tower with a dome serving as the office of the Council of Six, rulers of New Silver City.
Lu Mi instinctively turned his gaze to the dome tower and noticed clumps of black, hairlike plants growing from the cracks in the stones near ground level, sometimes drooping, sometimes swaying gently, as if stirred by a faint breeze.
Last time he'd come, Lu Mi had noticed these black plants but paid them no mind; this time, he felt a bloodline connection.
We are all part of—or continuation of—the Harvest Goddess Omeibera!
Even when sealed, a Class "0" Relic still exerts some influence on the outside world? Lu Mi withdrew his gaze and followed the half-giant youth into the spire tower.
They stepped across large black stone tiles, passed towering pillars, and reached the library on the third floor.
Before the towering, oppressive bookshelves stood a tall man in a simple white robe.
The man stood over two meters tall, his brownish-yellow hair meticulously combed; he appeared to be in his early twenties, yet his demeanor was profoundly calm and overwhelmingly imposing—he was unmistakably Mr. "Sun," one of the highest figures in the Fool's Church, whom Lu Mi had met before.
"Elder Berg, Madame Lu Mianna has arrived," the half-giant youth said respectfully.
Dalek Berg, Mr. "Sun," looked toward Lu Mi and nodded:
"Follow me."
Lu Mi replied politely:
"Thank you."
The half-giant youth waved goodbye and walked toward the door; a few steps later, he turned back and shouted toward Lu Mi's back:
"My name is Ru Jiesi!"
Shuowan, Lujiesitexunsuzhuanshen , Dengdengdengdipaoxialelouti 。
Lu Mi followed Mr. "Sun" deep into the New Silver City Library, entering the innermost chamber, where a stack of scattered records lay arranged.
"These are all records concerning the 'Earth's Blessing.' I've translated them into Ancient Fusaic for you," Mr. "Sun" said simply, then sat against the wall, falling silent as if turned to stone.
Lu Mi understood this was precaution against accidents while he read; he nodded gently, sat at the desk, and picked up the fresh stack of papers.
He read slowly, taking nearly half an hour to grasp the relationship between the Harvest Goddess Omeibera and Silver City:
In the Second Era, when the Ancient Gods ruled earth and sky, Silver City belonged to the Giant King's Court, its entire population enslaved by giants.
But unlike other human vassal factions under the Giant King's Court, Silver City's condition was relatively better, for they worshipped and followed Omeibera, the Giant King's consort and a lesser deity of the Ancient God.
According to Silver City's records, the Giant King's Consort Omeibera had appeared in their city multiple times, manifesting in two forms:
One form embodied light and beauty, with the core tenet of faith being "Bountiful harvests are joyous, life is precious"; she regarded Silver City's people as her children, ensuring abundant crops, prolific livestock and poultry, and rapid population growth—this was why Silver City's citizens rarely suffered senseless slaughter and never lacked food.
The other form brought desolation and death; all Silver City citizens knew the sayings: "Extreme harvest inevitably brings extreme desolation," "Only life can appease the Earth's wrath," "Death, like rebirth, is common and beautiful—fear it not," "We accept the Earth's gifts, and must pay the corresponding price."
When this form of Omeibera descended, she demanded bloody sacrifices—mass human offerings; even after Silver City's people performed these rites and offered their own kin, they sometimes endured famines lasting a full year—if they refused, the famine might last three or five years.
This was the age of the Ancient Gods? Even Silver City, relatively well-off, suffered thus… Lu Mi turned the page.
This page recorded the Giant King's Court's praises for Omeibera, the most striking line being:
"The exalted Queen used her motherhood to soothe the Great King's emotions…"
What did that mean? Motherhood… helping the Ancient God, the Giant King, expel excess extraordinary traits through childbirth, regaining some sanity? Lu Mi pondered and continued reading.
Another quarter-hour passed; he reached the section on the Giant King's Court's rapid decline:
Having acquired another divine relic, Silver City learned the Giant King, the Ancient God, had perished, and feared falling into the hands of even more brutal demon kings.
In this state of dread, on a night without a red moon, Omeibera, the Giant King's Consort, appeared outside Silver City.
This time, she did not descend directly—she walked step by step.
Her condition was dire; she commanded Silver City's faithful to perform a ritual, sacrificing half their population to replenish her life.
The subsequent account was vague, but the outcome was clear:
"That night, man slew god, subject slew sovereign, child slew mother."
Meaning, the mysteriously resurrected Omeibera ultimately died by betrayal of her own Silver City followers? Lu Mi was not surprised.
After that day, Silver City discovered Omeibera's corpse possessed no true extraordinary traits, yet still held immense power and terrifying authority; they buried this history entirely, concealed the secret—even after switching faith to the Ancient Sun God, they never revealed the true origin of the divine relic "Earth's Blessing" to their new lord, until Mr. "Fool"'s savior angel came to rescue them.
Zhici , Duioumibeilazhewei 「 Fengshounvshen 」 Dejiluquanbujieshu , Jiexialaishifengyinwu 「 Dadienci 」 Deziliao :
"'Earth's Blessing' can naturally generate edible plants under any environment and promote their growth, reproduction, and harvest within a fifty-kilometer radius."
"'Earth's Blessing' turns every human corpse within fifty kilometers into a terrifying wraith—unless the human was killed by a direct blood relative; those who have consumed its food and formed a strong bond with it will become wraiths within three hundred kilometers…"
Seeing this non-official record, Lu Mi suddenly lifted his head and stared at Mr. "Sun," seated by the wall.
He asked hesitantly:
"Every human corpse becomes a wraith?"
"Even those below Rank 5 in life?"
According to Lu Mi's knowledge, wraiths were the strongest class of soul beings; even the weakest should match Rank 5, and the strongest could rival demi-gods.
"Yes," Mr. "Sun" nodded calmly.
This… the power of "Earth's Blessing" is terrifying—it can mass-produce Rank 5 experts, some possibly demi-gods… This is a Class "0" Relic? Lu Mi instinctively evaluated its combat potential.
He probed further:
"What's the maximum number of human corpses that can become wraiths at once?"
"Never tested," Mr. "Sun" replied with a solemn expression.
Lu Mi suddenly realized his mistake and quickly apologized:
"My apologies."
He continued reading the divine relic's records—in New Silver City, Class "0" Relics are called divine relics.
