Chapter 921: Inevitable Death
A dark yellow bullet shot through the air and struck the resurrected female corpse.
But it passed straight through, leaving only a flicker, a phantom, and a disappearance.
After losing her “Mirror Double,” the resurrected female corpse’s first reaction was to create a mirror projection using reflective objects in the surveillance room, aided by mirror illusions, while she herself quietly changed position.
Thus, Francia had locked onto the mirror projection, and the “inevitable hit” would strike only the projection, not the true resurrected female corpse.
The resurrected female corpse’s figure immediately turned insubstantial and projected onto the nearest reflective surface.
She intended to use the mirror world to temporarily withdraw from battle, waiting until her “Mirror Double” ability recovered, then decide whether to wait for another opportunity, launch a new attack on Francia and the others, or stealthily track them to confirm their identities and residences, locking them directly and kicking them out of the dream.
As the resurrected female corpse’s figure first emerged on the surface of the reflective object, a new figure suddenly appeared in the void-dark region behind the mirror.
It was Anthony, wearing a black T-shirt.
Anthony held a talisman resembling the “Ice Talisman” in one hand and the “Winter Is Coming” revolver in the other, aiming at the resurrected female corpse as she prepared to dive into the mirror.
He had timely activated his “Mirror Transit” ability and arrived to intercept the resurrected female corpse!
Since Lu Mi could craft talismans to help adepts traverse the mirror world, he certainly wouldn’t have made only one—just for Francia.
Everyone on the team had one, each usable four times!
They had relied on Francia’s “Ice Talisman” to shift positions earlier partly because, since everyone was close together, there was no need to waste the remaining uses of the other talismans—after all, in the dream, Lu Mi was restricted to Sequence 7, and crafting similar talismans would likely fail—and partly because they followed Lu Mi’s “Conspirator” mindset and Francia’s frequent mutterings in the dream about “feigning weakness when capable.” They deliberately set a trap for the enemy.
The fact that they could only enter the mirror world and shift positions by gripping Lu Mi’s and Francia’s clothing led the resurrected female corpse to believe the others couldn’t perform “Mirror Transit.” Thus, after evading Francia’s attack, she confidently used the mirror world to escape.
She ran straight into Anthony’s gun barrel, which had been forcibly hidden from perception.
Anthony’s expression remained calm as he pulled the trigger.
Another bullet, stained with dark yellow light, flew forth toward the resurrected female corpse as she entered this region behind the mirror.
“Inevitable Hit!”
Bang!
As the gunshot echoed, the resurrected female corpse, who had not yet retracted her black flames, frost, or silk threads for protection, burst open in her chest—flesh and bone splitting.
She had truly been struck by the bullet, blasted out of the mirror, and thrown back into the surveillance room.
Seeing this, Francia aimed at the target once more.
Now, she would use the “Inevitable Death” bullet.
Meanwhile, Jianna remained stationed before the surveillance screen, refraining from seeking glory to avoid stray bullets destroying the items needing protection.
She quietly extended invisible silk threads to cling to the resurrected female corpse’s splattered blood, using it as a medium for her curse.
At that moment, the resurrected female corpse suddenly lifted her head and let out a piercing, agonized scream.
Her hair stood on end, instantly growing long and thick, like countless venomous snakes.
At the tips of these slick, sinister black hairs were embedded eyes, sharply divided into black and white, and heads that spat venomous tongues like snakes.
Jianna instinctively closed her eyes, yet still felt her mind grow chaotic, pain and pleasure surging simultaneously, her body stiffening unnaturally, as if turning to stone.
In that instant, she understood what the enemy was doing.
The resurrected female corpse, sensing she would suffer a fatal blow and had no way to evade it or protect herself by forming a giant cocoon, deliberately unleashed her own madness, manifesting an incomplete mythic being form only possible at the Saint level.
For most Saints, manifesting an incomplete mythic being form was extremely dangerous—a path toward loss of control. Unless there were no other options, or unless one intended to drag the enemy down with them, no one would use it.
For adepts lacking divinity, directly gazing upon an incomplete mythic being form brought intense contamination and terrifying mental shock, almost certainly driving them to madness and loss of control—even if they closed their eyes, being within range still caused some contamination.
Saints possessing divinity were still affected to some degree by the incomplete mythic being form, and would continue to suffer its influence, facing relentless, mad assaults from the mythic being itself—the incomplete mythic being form was a Saint’s strongest and most dangerous state.
As Francia saw the resurrected female corpse’s terrifying transformation, she gritted her teeth and firmly pulled the trigger of the “Inevitable Gun.”
Bang!
A dim, bluish-green bullet flew from the barrel, striking the resurrected female corpse’s body, now obscured by slick, thick hair.
Francia let out a pained cry.
She instinctively recoiled her head; her black hair, styled into a ponytail and altered by “Lies,” snapped free, flaring outward, each strand distinct, seeming to thicken.
Her face turned partly gray-white; her chest swelled slightly; her mind was struck by a storm—all thoughts whipped up, becoming mad, twisted, and dark.
She felt intense pleasure and extreme pain; this Diejia with her already diseased and decaying body triggered her “Mirror Double” involuntarily.
A cracking sound rang out—Francia reverted into a mirror, shattering into fragments.
Yet when her figure reappeared in the corner, the disease and decay were gone, but her hair still floated midair, still thickening; her face was grotesquely gray-white, twisted to an extreme, yet radiating an eerie beauty, her eyes filled with madness and malice.
Contamination could not be transferred by the “Mirror Double,” nor could the tendency toward loss of control.
Meanwhile, Francia’s fired “Inevitable Death” bullet struck the resurrected female corpse’s slick, sinister black hair.
Although the “Inevitable Death” effect was suppressed to Sequence 7 level—effective only against ordinary people—it remained lethal to the already severely wounded resurrected female corpse, and her incomplete mythic being form was likewise restricted to Sequence 7, possessing only defense at that level!
The dim bluish-green bullet pierced through layers of thick hair and drilled into the resurrected female corpse’s brain, now in its incomplete mythic being form.
Pop!
The resurrected female corpse’s head split open, blood and white pulp spraying outward.
The slick, sinister black hairs, embedded with black-and-white eyes, fell one after another, gradually returning to their original state to varying degrees.
Only then did Anthony dare step out from the reflective object, turning his back on the corpse with its strange allure and spiritual contamination, and at a moderate distance, performed “Psychic Analysis” on Francia—casting a “Calming” spell.
Francia’s chaotic, mad thoughts calmed; her bodily loss-of-control symptoms began to recede.
Seeing this, Anthony quietly exhaled in relief.
Fortunately, the resurrected female corpse’s incomplete mythic being form was only at Sequence 7 level; the contamination and shock inflicted on Francia were confined to that tier. Otherwise, they might not have been able to save her—perhaps it would have depended entirely on Francia’s own willpower.
As Anthony prepared his second “Calming,” Lu Mi leapt out of the surveillance screen.
He instinctively glanced at Francia and Jianna, assessing their conditions.
Seeing their issues were within tolerable limits, Lu Mi turned his gaze to the corpse on the ground—its skull split open, its hair grotesque.
As a Saint himself, he felt only a slight emotional ripple, no other reaction.
Together, they had slain the “Despair Witch” with the “Mirror Double”… Lu Mi was astonished, yet deeply relieved.
He instinctively looked toward Ludwig and saw the boy staring hungrily at the “Witch’s” corpse, utterly unconcerned about potential contamination.
Ludwig indeed could not be affected by the incomplete mythic being form—besides, the corpse had already shed that form, retaining only fragments of its traits.
Lu Mi simultaneously generated multiple bursts of deep black “Flame of Destruction,” igniting each patch of viscous blood and yellow-green pus in the surveillance room, while pulling out a mirror, bending low, and placing the corpse with its shattered skull inside.
They could not let this corpse continue contaminating the surveillance room and affecting the recovering Jianna and Francia!
During this process, a black, irregular shard of mirror fell from the corpse.
Indeed, she had a fragment of a special mirror world... Lu Mi slipped the black shard into the "Traveler's Satchel," planning to compare it later with Francia's and the others'.
By now, half the viscous blood and yellow-green pus in the surveillance room had ignited; the black flames began spreading outward, seeking other combustibles.
“Phew…” Francia exhaled deeply; her mental state finally stabilized, and her abnormalities vanished.
Anthony moved to Jianna’s side, performing “Psychic Analysis” on her, since her contamination was minimal.
After returning the “Inevitable Gun” to the “Traveler’s Satchel,” Francia was about to boast to Lu Mi, “We killed a ‘Despair Witch,’” when her eyes caught the surveillance cameras in the room.
She immediately changed her words:
“I’ll check whether our fight was recorded by the cameras.”
“Why not just burn the surveillance equipment to ash with ‘Flame of Destruction’?” Lu Mi thought it unnecessary to go through so much trouble.
“What if this mall’s surveillance footage is stored on a cloud server?” Francia didn’t fully understand, but felt it was worth guarding against.
Lu Mi did not stop Francia, because he didn’t understand what a “cloud server” was.
Francia swiftly operated the surveillance system, then said after a pause:
“It’s fine—the resurrected female corpse must have destroyed the cameras in this room when she checked the surveillance.”
As she spoke, she activated her “Mirror Double” again, because Lu Mi couldn’t flood the entire room with “Flame of Destruction”—he could only generate bursts one by one, burning patch by patch, and the air still held mystical pathogens and decay forces.
Lu Mi nodded and said:
“Check whether my battle inside the mirror world became part of the surveillance footage.”
“If there’s no issue, let’s return and perform spirit communication quickly.”
“You can do that?” Francia exclaimed in shock.
It was like changing the behavior of a puppet inside a painting and altering the painting itself.
