Chapter 1119: I've Come to File a Complaint
Hou Guangbi was tending to the flowering trees in the old house. Seeing Su Xinghui arrive, he smiled and said, "Xinghui's here, huh? What brings you back today?"
Su Xinghui stepped forward to help Hou Guangbi mound soil around a flowering tree, and as he worked he said, "Grandpa Hou, Noel left Jiangcheng for Pengjiawan yesterday."
Hou Guangbi said, "Oh, has he made up his mind?"
Su Xinghui shook his head and said, "No, someone from the Jiangcheng Investment Promotion Office has already approached him."
Hou Guangbi gave nothing away. He finished mounding soil around several flowering trees, watered them, then washed his hands together with Su Xinghui and sat down on the stone bench in the courtyard, saying, "Tell me the details."
Su Xinghui then laid out the full situation for Hou Guangbi. Hou Guangbi said, "Those people from the Jiangcheng Investment Promotion Office really are like lingering ghosts! Looks like they just have to snatch one of your investors before they can rest easy!"
Su Xinghui said, "Right—whether from the angle of revenge or the angle of political achievements, they want to grab this project!"
Hou Guangbi nodded. Of course he knew that Noel United Steel was a giant, and that their specialty steel production technology was far ahead of China's domestic level. If a project like this landed in Jiangcheng, the benefits for those people at the Jiangcheng Investment Promotion Office would simply be enormous.
Hou Guangbi said, "To snatch a single project, they stop at nothing. People like that won't amount to much in the future."
Hou Guangbi wasn't wrong. Perhaps at relatively low levels, one can get political achievements, get promoted, or achieve certain things by stopping at nothing. But once you reach relatively high levels, if you want to keep climbing, you have to take everything into account.
At that point, one's vision, bearing, and breadth of outlook become the more important things that determine a person's ultimate achievements.
Specifically in politics, one important condition for our Party's promotion of senior cadres is their resume—work experience. They need both experience in basic leadership posts and experience in government agencies, and they need to have performed outstandingly in both practical and theoretical work. At that point, promotion can no longer be obtained simply through political achievements.
