Chapter 1171: The City Has Opinions

After Zhang Kaishan returned to the county, he immediately had a talk with Chen Hongfu. He told Chen Hongfu to be mentally prepared to take on a heavier burden.

Although Zhang Kaishan did not explicitly say that Chen Hongfu would likely become the new County Magistrate, Chen Hongfu had already had a premonition for some time, because Tian Xiaopeng had not been in the county for almost a month, and the news being spread was that his health was poor.

Was Tian Xiaopeng's health really poor? Chen Hongfu certainly didn't believe it. He had been in Shangjun County for several months, and Tian had always been full of energy; how could he suddenly have health problems?

Chen Hongfu knew that this must be because Tian Xiaopeng no longer had the face to continue staying in Shangjun County. He would, in all likelihood, be transferred out of Shangjun County directly due to health problems. Then, the position of Shangjun County Magistrate would become vacant, and his opportunity would come. Therefore, Chen Hongfu had been working very hard these days.

Now that Zhang Kaishan had made a trip to Jiangcheng and, upon returning, had talked to Chen Hongfu, telling him to be prepared to take on a heavier burden, did he even need to ask what that meant?

Chen Hongfu also suppressed the excitement in his heart. He forced himself to be calm, nodded, and said to Zhang Kaishan: "Secretary, don't worry, I will definitely work hard! I will not let down the organization's cultivation!"

Two days later, Chen Hongfu officially took office as the Acting County Magistrate of Shangjun County. The first thing he did after taking office was to officially serve as the General Commander of the Shangjun County Flood Prevention and Control Headquarters and went to various townships to inspect flood prevention and control work.

It was already July. This year's flood situation was not as fierce as last year's, but the water level had still reached the warning level. All townships had invested in intense flood prevention and control work, and Pengjiawanzhen was, of course, no exception.

There had been a lot of rain these days. Not only was the flood situation tense, but this rain also had a significant impact on agricultural production and various project constructions.

Rice was now approaching the tillering stage and was also about to be sun-dried. The continuous rain would naturally affect rice yields. Farmers growing pumpkins and winter melons were also anxious; these melon and vegetable crops were also very afraid of being soaked by rain. Fortunately, having the experience of last year's heavy rain, the farmers also had experience, and they were still fighting such natural disasters in an orderly manner.

Various projects in Pengjiawanzhen were now fully underway, but such construction projects could not start on rainy days. In order to catch up with the schedule, all engineering companies stopped work on rainy days and rushed to work day and night as soon as the rain stopped. Fortunately, this was not a residential area, so there was no issue of disturbing the residents.

Fortunately, last winter, Pengjiawanzhen renovated the previous water conservancy facilities and dredged the long-neglected water channels and pipes, which kept the drainage system relatively smooth. This year, the internal waterlogging in Pengjiawanzhen was much better than last year.

Of course, this was also because the water level of the Changjiang River was lower this year than last year; otherwise, even if the drainage system were smooth, there would be nowhere for the excess water to drain.

Last winter, not only were water conservancy facilities renovated, but the houses of the five-guarantee households in every village and group were also renovated and reinforced. This year, it was absolutely impossible for the kind of danger that occurred last year to happen again.

Su Xinghui had also been extremely busy during this period. He had to manage flood prevention and control, often having to go to the embankment, and he couldn't abandon the town's economic construction either. He was running back and forth between the embankment and the town. These days, it was good if he could sleep four or five hours a day.

This was also because he was young, had a good body, and knew the Five Animal Frolics. He exercised every morning, practiced the Five Animal Frolics, and ate more, so his energy was replenished.

This day was a heavy rainy day. Su Xinghui went to the embankment again, personally directing on the front line. Although the water level this year was not as high as last year, he still couldn't take it lightly. As the saying goes, water and fire have no mercy, and there is another saying that a thousand-mile embankment can collapse because of an ant hole. A small oversight could lead to serious consequences.

Su Xinghui still inspected the sheds one by one, asking the embankment guards in detail about the flood situation, and from time to time encouraged everyone that they must not be negligent.

Suddenly, a group of people walked towards him, all wearing raincoats and rain boots. Su Xinghui took a closer look and saw that the person in the lead was very familiar; it was the new Acting County Magistrate, Chen Hongfu. He hurriedly greeted him.

Qi Jian accompanied Chen Hongfu and said loudly to Su Xinghui: "Town Mayor, today County Magistrate Chen came to the town to inspect, and our Pengjiawanzhen is his first stop. You were not in the town, so County Magistrate Chen asked us to bring him to the embankment to find you."

Su Xinghui walked a few quick steps, reached Chen Hongfu, and shook Chen Hongfu's hand, saying: "County Magistrate, you are here. Welcome to inspect!"

Chen Hongfu shook Su Xinghui's hand tightly, shaking it up and down, and said: "Comrade Xinghui, you've worked hard!"

Su Xinghui said: "Not hard, not hard. This is what I, as a town mayor, should do."

The two looked at each other and smiled, and Chen Hongfu asked about the water situation here. Su Xinghui and Qi Jian introduced the situation to him. ===== CHAPTER 1173 =====
