Chapter 1425

Early the next morning, Yu Zhunchu rushed to Changshan County and met with Hackett; thus, both County Magistrates, Ling Anguo and Yu Zhunchu, had met with Hackett.

Hackett's work style was extremely efficient and decisive. As soon as Yu Zhunchu arrived, the two didn't exchange many pleasantries before he requested to go to the site for an inspection. In fact, he had already reviewed all the project documents and materials the previous night.

Accompanied by the two County Magistrates and Su Xinghui, Hackett traveled from Changshan County seat to Xiapu Township. Along the way, he frequently asked to stop the car to inspect the terrain by comparing it with maps and the Transportation Bureau's data. He inspected very seriously and carefully, and he also carried a pen and notebook with him, constantly recording something.

While Hackett was examining a hillside, Yu Zhunchu quietly said to Su Xinghui, "Xinghui, this foreign old gentleman is quite serious."

Su Xinghui replied, "Isn't it good to be a bit serious?"

Yu Zhunchu nodded and said, "Being serious is certainly good. We Chinese people are sometimes just too unserious."

Su Xinghui said, "This foreign old gentleman and I have a pretty good relationship, but no matter how good your relationship is with him usually, once it comes to work, he immediately becomes serious."

Yu Zhunchu nodded and said, "That's good."

Su Xinghui said, "There is another benefit to getting a loan from the World Bank: they don't just provide the loan; they will also send experts to provide guidance and supervision, which is very beneficial for the construction of our road."

Yu Zhunchu said, "There's such a good thing? That's great. Then I can rest assured about the project quality."

Su Xinghui said, "Of course you can rest assured. The World Bank cares even more about the project quality than we do."

It took a full day for Hackett to inspect the terrain from Changshan County seat to Xiapu Township. That night, they stayed at the Xiapu Township government, preparing to spend a few more days inspecting the terrain from Xiapu Township through Wushui County territory all the way to Wushui County seat.

Xiapu Township is at the southernmost tip of Changshan County and is also the place with the highest elevation in Changshan County; therefore, the most difficult part of this road is right here. Just building the tunnels alone will require nearly ten kilometers, and the volume of work is quite substantial.

Feng Hai, the Party Secretary of the Xiapu Township government, and Township Head Zhu Xuewu had long since set up a banquet to await the guests' arrival. They had been incredibly excited ever since they heard that the county was going to build this road to Wushui County, waiting for this day. Now that this day had finally arrived, they were so happy they didn't know what to do.
