Chapter 222

~5 min read 870 words

Su Xinghui walked up to the guy and pointed at his nose. "What's your name?"

The guy pulled out a switchblade, pressed the mechanism, and the bright blade snapped out; his hand trembled as he stammered, "Don't come closer, don't come closer!"

Su Xinghui's right hand shot out like lightning; the guy felt a numbness in his wrist, and the switchblade suddenly landed in Su Xinghui's hand, making him recoil as if he'd seen a ghost, stepping backward involuntarily.

Su Xinghui said, "I'll ask you again—what's your name?"

The guy stammered, "I'm Chang Hu. On the streets, they call me Brother Hu."

Su Xinghui frowned in disgust. "The rat I caught today—who let him out?"

Chang Hu hesitated, unwilling to speak. Su Xinghui snapped, "Speak up. Do you want to end up like them?"

Chang Hu glanced at his groaning subordinates lying on the ground, sucked in a sharp breath, and answered, "Brother Yan is our boss. Please, for his sake, don't make trouble for us."

"Brother Yan?" Su Xinghui thought for a moment. "Are you talking about Tao Yanbin?"

Seeing Su Xinghui seemed to know Tao Yanbin, Chang Hu nodded eagerly. "Yes, that's Brother Yan."

Su Xinghui spat. "What kind of trash is he, to be called Brother Yan?"

Chang Hu nodded frantically—he dared not anger this demon. If this man was displeased, getting sent to the Gongan Bureau was the least of his worries; what if he beat him up? He'd suffer a direct blow.

Su Xinghui said, "Chang Hu, I just heard you say you were going to beat me badly until I submitted, so I'd never interfere in your business again—was that right?"

Chang Hu shook his head rapidly. "No, no, never."

Su Xinghui said, "What are you afraid of? If I weren't this strong, wouldn't you have beaten me senseless by now?"

Chang Hu forced a smile. "Brother, how could that be? It was just a joke a moment ago."

Su Xinghui said, "Who the hell are you calling brother?"

Chang Hu hurriedly said, "Big Brother, Big Brother—we were just joking!"

Su Xinghui said, "Shangjun County was fine until scum like you turned it into a cesspool. Listen: today you've run into me—your good days are over."

The people who had scattered began returning. Hearing Su Xinghui's words, they clapped loudly. Xue Qin also returned, excited, to Su Xinghui's side—when that group charged at him, she'd been terrified, but then Su Xinghui unleashed his power and took them all down.

The events had happened too fast—barely five minutes had passed—Xue Qin finally came to her senses and ran over. "Xinghui, you're amazing."

Excited, she suddenly smacked a kiss on Su Xinghui's cheek—drawing a round of good-natured laughter from the crowd.

Hearing the laughter, Xue Qin realized she'd gotten carried away. She dropped her head, blushing furiously.

Su Xinghui acted as if nothing had happened. "Xue Qin, call the police. Have them take these people in. I want to see if anyone still has the nerve to let them out again."

Xue Qin agreed and turned to make the call, when someone in the crowd said, "I already called the police—they're on their way."

Su Xinghui recognized the voice. He turned—and it was indeed someone he knew, though from his past life. When he was reassigned to the county later, they'd worked together for two years.

His name was Liu Changlin. When they were colleagues, he was at the Tongji Bureau. He was two or three years older than Su Xinghui, and just as upright—so he was never promoted.

In his past life, he and Su Xinghui got along well. But now, of course, he didn't know Su Xinghui—yet that didn't stop him from calling the police when he saw Chang Hu's gang trying to beat someone up.

Su Xinghui nodded. "Thank you."

Liu Changlin waved it off. "Don't mention it. That's what I should do."

At that moment, Chang Hu rolled his eyes and crept backward, preparing to flee. Su Xinghui said casually, "Don't run. If you do, I guarantee you'll regret it."

Su Xinghui's tone was casual, but the skill he'd shown made Chang Hu believe he wasn't joking.

Chang Hu stopped and forced a nervous smile. "How could I run? Big Brother!"

A few minutes later, a police car arrived. Two officers got out. The lead officer, seeing several groaning men on the ground, frowned. "What happened here?"

Su Xinghui pointed at the rat. "This is a thief. Today at noon, I helped your anti-pickpocket officers catch him. I don't know why he was released, but he gathered a few men to retaliate against me—so I subdued them."

He pointed at Chang Hu. "This man is their leader."

The lead officer asked Chang Hu, "Is that true?"

Chang Hu bowed low. "Officer, that's not true. We just ran into each other on the street, had a little argument, and he attacked and injured my brothers—we're the victims!"

Su Xinghui stepped toward Chang Hu, glaring. Chang Hu stepped back. "What? You think you're tough because you can fight? Now that the police are here, you still dare to threaten us?"

Xue Qin snapped, "How can you lie like that? Is that really what happened?"
