Chapter 2323: Dispirited

After the Spring Festival of 1999, the overall situation in Chongjin County was still very encouraging: the new county government office building was finished, the administrative service center had been put into use, the relocation work for returning farmland to the lake had been successfully concluded, and the sluice gates were about to be opened to release the water.

The Jiucheng renovation project had entered the bidding stage, and the ecological agriculture work had also entered a substantive phase — several professors from Jiangcheng Agricultural University had brought their graduate students and thrown themselves into the work.

During this period, quite a few investors had come to Chongjin County to negotiate investment agreements; in short, everything seemed very harmonious.

However, at that day's County Party Standing Committee meeting, one matter shattered this harmony.

Discipline Inspection Secretary Yin Xuewei produced an audit report. He had made twelve copies of it, and placed one in front of each Standing Committee member.

At first no one paid much attention to the audit report, but after leafing through it, they discovered Yuan Yilu's name one after another, and at once the atmosphere in the meeting room turned solemn.

Everyone present, of course, knew perfectly well what sort of person Yuan Yilu was; a few people couldn't help glancing at Yuan Yifu, wanting to see what his reaction would be.

Yuan Yifu's face had already gone as black as charcoal. Although he was known as the "Smiling Tiger," when faced with something like this, he truly could not smile.
