Chapter 2836: Souvenirs
Su Xinghui was a person who sought truth from facts. Although he didn't like Wen Juncheng, he wouldn't erase the achievements of the Radio and Television Bureau, so he still praised Wen Juncheng a few times.
Hearing Su Xinghui's praise, Wen Juncheng was beaming with joy. He took the opportunity to make a request to Su Xinghui, "Mayor Su, could you come to our Radio and Television Bureau to inspect? The last time you inspected, it gave all our cadres and staff great encouragement, and our work efficiency improved a lot. If you go again, it would certainly be a great boost to our work."
Su Xinghui thought to himself, "Good fellow, you've made me out to be a stimulant. If I go down there and have such an effect, then I might as well do nothing every day and just run around to all the bureaus and counties; then I'd become a mobile stimulant!"
However, Su Xinghui did indeed intend to run around to all the bureaus and banks he oversaw again in the near future, not to boost the morale of the comrades below, but to understand the situation in these bureaus and banks so he could have a clear picture in his mind.
Su Xinghui nodded and said, "If I have time, I will go down and take a look. Of course, I will also go to your Radio and Television Bureau."
Su Xinghui's words made Wen Juncheng very happy. He repeatedly expressed his welcome, then took advantage of the moment to take a small box out of his bag, placed it on Su Xinghui's desk, and stood up to take his leave.
When Wen Juncheng placed the small box on Su Xinghui's desk, his movements were very natural, neither attracting attention nor being hidden, which proved he was an expert at giving gifts.
Wen Juncheng had just taken a step toward the door when Su Xinghui said calmly, "Director Wen, did you forget something? Remember to take your things with you."
Wen Juncheng stopped in his tracks. He smiled and said, "Mayor Su, this is a small souvenir we brought back when our TV station went to Hong Kong for an inspection last time. It's not worth much, just a token of remembrance. Please don't decline. Last time the TV station invited you to go together, you didn't have time, so we brought this little thing for you."
Su Xinghui remembered. Once, Director Hu and Ling Shanshan from the TV station came to his office, saying the station was going to Hong Kong to inspect the development of Hong Kong's television media and invited Su Xinghui to go along.
Su Xinghui knew that they were inviting him to Hong Kong simply to curry favor with him, so he found an excuse, saying he didn't have time, and refused.
However, the TV station's reason for inspecting Hong Kong was high-sounding, and the plan had been set long ago, so Su Xinghui found it difficult to stop them, and thus had to let them be.
Unexpectedly, Wen Juncheng used this excuse to give him a "souvenir."
Su Xinghui reached out and picked up the box. Upon opening it, he saw it was actually a Rolex gold watch. He had seen this model in Hong Kong last time; even buying it in Hong Kong would cost several thousand Hong Kong dollars, and it would be even more expensive in the mainland, costing at least over ten thousand.
Su Xinghui said to Wen Juncheng, "Director Wen, this watch is too expensive. I cannot accept it. Please take it away."
A look of surprise appeared on Wen Juncheng's face, "Really? They said this watch didn't cost much, just a few hundred yuan."
Su Xinghui sneered, "This is a Rolex; it costs several thousand to over ten thousand. If they said it was only worth a few hundred, there are only two possibilities: either they lied to you, or this watch is a fake."
Wen Juncheng hurriedly said, "You can rest assured about that; this watch is definitely not fake."
Su Xinghui said, "If it's not fake, then it's even more valuable, and I cannot accept it even more."
Wen Juncheng said, "Please just accept it; it's just a small token. You're busy, I'll go first."
As he spoke, Wen Juncheng walked out. Based on his experience, at such times, leaders usually wouldn't refuse again; it was better for everyone to understand each other tacitly.
But Su Xinghui said, "Director Wen, if you refuse to take it back, then I will have to take this watch to the Discipline Inspection Commission."
