Lei Ming replied, "I came on the fourth day of the Lunar New Year; someone had to be on duty at the station."

Su Xinghui said, "Then you have high standards; I didn't work a single day during the New Year."

Lei Ming said, "Don't make fun of me. I don't have much ability; I can only do these kinds of dull tasks."

Su Xinghui asked, "Was there anything going on in Meng Hu Ling during the New Year?"

Lei Ming replied, "Nothing major, though there was some crowd gambling. The station detained a few people. Sometimes I really don't understand—what's the point of gambling?"

Su Xinghui laughed, "There's nothing to be done about that. Since ancient times, gambling has been impossible to eradicate. We just need to do our own jobs well."

Lei Ming also shook his head helplessly.

Su Xinghui asked, "Your bureau has a new leader. Are you familiar with Director Xu?"

Lei Ming nodded, "I'm quite familiar with him."

Su Xinghui said, "Then have you looked for him to get yourself transferred back to the county seat? Living apart like this isn't a long-term solution."

Lei Ming sighed, "I'd like to go back, but I don't want to force it now. I was transferred to Meng Hu Ling in the first place because I wasn't willing to pull strings, and I'm still not willing to pull strings just to get back to the county."

Su Xinghui knew Lei Ming's personality. If he were the type to give gifts and build connections, he wouldn't have been exiled here by Tao Yan.
