Chapter 3166

April is a season of spring flowers. In this season, Guan Tongfu invited Su Xinghui to visit their site for treating heavy metal pollution.

Tongfu Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd., founded by Guan Tongfu, started construction last year. Now the project has been basically completed, and the method of using plants to treat heavy metal pollution can only start from this spring because these plants can only be planted in spring.

The place they went to was still the Baota Mountain Gold Mine. This place is relatively close to Baozhou City, and the pollution is also relatively serious, so it is also a place that the Baozhou Municipal Government attaches great importance to. Su Xinghui hoped to be able to treat this place well as soon as possible.

As soon as they arrived at the place where the original Baota Mountain Gold Mine wastewater pond and waste residue pond were located, Su Xinghui found that the situation here was completely different from the last time they came to see it.

The most conspicuous were those waste residue ponds. The waste residue that was originally piled up like a mountain was now a lot shorter, as if a part of it had been transported away, and now there were some large trucks waiting by the waste residue pond to transport the waste residue.

Su Xinghui asked, "Dr. Guan, did you transport these waste residues away?"

Guan Tongfu nodded and said, "Yes, these waste residues were all transported away by me. My company can now use special equipment to refine and recycle these waste residues, refine and reuse the valuable parts in the waste residues, and the remaining valueless waste residues will be made into building materials or backfilled into the mine tunnels of the mine, so that the pollution to the environment can be minimized."

Su Xinghui said, "Dr. Guan, then how much waste residue can your company process each year?"

Guan Tongfu said, "Currently, the company has only completed the first phase of the project, so the processing capacity is limited. It can process about 300,000 cubic meters of waste residue each year. However, after the second and third phases of the project are completed, the processing capacity can be greatly increased. In the future, it may be able to process millions of cubic meters of waste residue each year. In addition to digesting all the newly generated waste residue, it can also slowly digest those old waste residues."

Su Xinghui said, "That is to say, it will take about a decade or so to digest all the old waste residues in Baozhou City?"

Guan Tongfu nodded and said, "That's right."

Su Xinghui said, "I hope Dr. Guan can make this process faster and faster. Digesting these waste residues is really too important for Baozhou City."

Guan Tongfu said, "Mayor Su, please rest assured, I will certainly do my best!"

Su Xinghui looked again at the land where sewage was flowing before. Now, various plants had been planted on this land. These plants had just sprouted not long ago, but now they looked quite large, just like a large field of crops. This green color made people see hope.

Guan Tongfu led Su Xinghui close to these plants. He pointed to a plant and said, "This is Pteris vittata. This kind of grass can accumulate arsenic, lead, and other elements. These elements are all highly toxic. The reason why Pteris vittata got its name is, first, because its leaves are symmetrical after it becomes an adult, just like pairs of feet, and its appearance is a bit like a centipede. Second, Pteris vittata is highly toxic after accumulating arsenic elements."

Su Xinghui looked at those Pteris vittata. He found it hard to imagine that these plants could remove these toxins from the soil. However, he had to believe in science. He nodded and said, "What about these other plants?"

Guan Tongfu pointed to the plants one by one and introduced them like a treasure: "This is Viola, this is ramie, this is Sedum, this is vetiver, this is Indian mustard, this is Pteris, this is Noccaea caerulescens, this is Rumex. These plants all have an accumulation effect on heavy metals and can absorb a variety of heavy metals."

Guan Tongfu looked like a botanist, not an environmental expert. Su Xinghui smiled and said, "Dr. Guan, you are more than enough to be a botanist like this."
