Chapter 60: Adding to the Load

~4 min read 638 words

Time passed quickly, and in the blink of an eye it was August 15th, a Saturday. That morning, Chen Hongfu called Su Xinghui into his office.

Su Xinghui entered Chen Hongfu's office, poured Chen Hongfu a glass of water as usual, then poured one for himself.

Chen Hongfu said with a smile, "Little Su, look — you're a top student graduated from Jiangcheng University, yet since you came to our township government, we've only had you serve as an ordinary staff member. Do you have any objections to that?"

Su Xinghui shook his head without hesitation and said, "No, I only just started working, my work experience is limited, and getting more training is only right."

Chen Hongfu nodded and said, "That's a very good way to put it. The reason we haven't arranged any position for you for the time being is to observe and train you. In fact, we place great importance on you as a college student. During this period, we've seen that your work is very solid and your work ability is also very strong. Therefore, the township held a Dangwei Society meeting yesterday afternoon and made a decision to give you more responsibility. You'd better be mentally prepared."

Giving more responsibility meant a promotion. Although within the jurisdiction of the township government, the highest promotion was only to section-level, which still couldn't enter the formal cadre sequence, this was still a pretty good starting point. Su Xinghui was quite happy — his own efforts had paid off after all.

He said to Chen Hongfu with a smile, "Thank you, Chen Shuji, for your cultivation!"

Chen Hongfu waved his hand and said, "This is mainly your own effort. In the future, in your new post, you must work even harder and produce even more outstanding results to prove our eye for talent wasn't wrong."

Su Xinghui nodded and said, "I certainly will."

Chen Hongfu said, "Township Head Dong also knows about this matter, and the other leaders at the Dangwei Society meeting all agreed. When you have time, you should report your work to them as well."

Su Xinghui nodded in agreement.

Chen Hongfu lowered his voice and said, "Little Su, tomorrow is Sunday. Are you going home?"

Su Xinghui hadn't been home for another half month. However, since Chen Hongfu had lowered his voice to ask him like this, he naturally wouldn't think this was Chen Shuji caring about him — Chen Hongfu must have other intentions. So he asked, "What do you mean?"

Chen Hongfu said, "I haven't been home in a long time either. I'm planning to go back this afternoon. Would you like to ride in my car and go back together?"

Su Xinghui's mind spun quickly. Since Chen Hongfu had taken the initiative to invite him, there must be some other intention. He couldn't brush off his face, so he nodded and said, "That would be great, I can save some travel fare."

Chen Hongfu nodded, looking as though he wanted to say something but held back. Su Xinghui asked, "Chen Shuji, is there something else you need me to handle?"

Chen Hongfu said, "It's like this. Recently the township has been doing well in developing the rural economy. I want to go report our work to County Head Zhang. Do you think you could go with me?"

Only then did Su Xinghui understand — so this was what Chen Hongfu was after.

In fact, it was perfectly normal for a township Party secretary to go report work to a deputy county head in charge of agriculture. However, Zhang Kaishan was extremely strict and serious about work. Meng Hu Ling Township had always been at the bottom of the whole county in every previous task, and every time Chen Hongfu reported work to him, he couldn't escape being criticized.
