Chapter 628

Su Xinghui said, "That's a good thing. Once you've achieved prosperity, you should lead everyone to achieve prosperity together."

Guo Zhonghua said, "We are willing to let everyone achieve prosperity together, but we're afraid that when more people grow lotus roots, the price will fall, and it won't be cost-effective."

Su Xinghui said, "That won't happen. Even if your whole village grows lotus roots, how much area could there be? Let's say ten thousand mu; how much would the yield be? Less than twenty million jin. We are close to Yulin and Jiangcheng, so where couldn't we sell them? Even if the price drops, it's impossible for it to drop too much, and it would still be much better than growing grain."

Su Xinghui wasn't just talking nonsense. More than a decade later, in some townships with flat terrain in Shangjun and Yulin, more and more people were growing lotus roots, but the price of lotus roots never fell very low because of this. It usually stayed at two or three yuan per jin, and during festivals, it could even rise to six or seven yuan. Therefore, growing lotus roots would definitely not lose money.

Of course, growing lotus roots also had very strict requirements for the natural environment. It required sufficient water sources and the most fertile land, and no pesticides could have been used in the previous years, otherwise, the residual pesticides would kill the lotus roots. This also made it impossible for the lotus root planting area to expand indefinitely.

Guo Zhonghua nodded and said, "What you said makes sense. I think we should expand the lotus root planting area. We've had enough of these poor days!"
