Chapter 1089: Does Young Master Yu Have Business with Her?

~8 min read 1,511 words

As the heavy-lift medium helicopter roared into the sky above Territory Eight, Yang Jin, dressed in a special protective suit with several flesh-colored bandages stuck to his face, carried the box he had brought straight into the small kitchen next to the conference room.

When Yang Jin opened the box and Xia Qing saw the beef wrapped in a milky-white viscous liquid inside the transparent vacuum bag, half her craving vanished.

So this is wax-sealed beef? It really kills the appetite just looking at it…

Yang Jin, however, looked full of confidence. "Sister Qing, is there a charcoal oven here?"

Xia Qing's eyes moved away from the meat. She nodded calmly. "Yes, I'll go get it. This bucket here is drinking water; the tap beside it is filtered water."

The drinking water in Territory Three was, of course, unpolluted spring water.

After Xia Qing left the kitchen, Yang Jin took out his phone and quickly skimmed through the recipes and precautions he had long since memorized, took a deep breath, took off his protective suit, washed and disinfected his hands, and began processing the beef according to the steps in the recipe.

After Xia Qing left the conference room and walked south for over two hundred meters, she bent down beside Wolf Lao Er and, together with it, secretly observed the little yellow calf tethered under a big tree fifty meters away.

Wolf Lao Er, who had always been unstoppable before the wolf pack, Sheep Boss, Lao Si, the red fox family, and Xia Qing, had now met its Waterloo in life at the hooves of this little yellow calf. Even though Xia Qing had given it a bath last night and made it smell fragrant with not a trace of blood, the calf was still very afraid of it and refused to eat the food it carried over.

Actually, the calf really couldn't be blamed. As an herbivore, of course it would be afraid of an evolved wolf with sharp claws and fangs.

Through the kitchen window, Yang Jin quietly watched Xia Qing, who was crouching beside the wolf watching the calf; his eyes were full of happiness. Not far away, Sheep Boss, holding a mouthful of grass, stared unhappily at Yang Jin in the kitchen for a while, finished chewing the grass stem in its mouth, walked to the basket placed under the tree, and began eating the fresh forage inside.

The little calf, which hadn't eaten anything since entering Territory Three, finally couldn't stand its hunger any longer as it watched the forage in the basket slowly decrease, and walked over to Sheep Boss and picked up a few stalks of grass.

Seeing the little calf finally begin to eat, Wolf Lao Er and Xia Qing turned their heads at the same time and, face to face, broke into happy smiles.

If the calf is willing to eat grass, it will definitely survive!

Once the calf was raised, Xia Qing and Wolf Lao Er would have milk to drink.

To keep Wolf Lao Er from drooling over the important livestock in Territory Three, Xia Qing had talked to it for a long time last night, making it understand the benefits of keeping this cow alive.

After the science lesson, the obedient Wolf Lao Er finally stopped lying by the windowsill, staring at the sheep pen with a pair of green, oily eyes.

Xia Qing scratched Wolf Lao Er's neck, stood up, went home to fetch the oven and rice cooker, and walked to the side of the conference room, where she caught the sweet scent of honey and quickened her pace.

When she entered the small kitchen and saw Yang Jin—having taken off the top of his protective suit, now wearing a loose black T-shirt with an apron tied around his waist, standing by the stove scraping the sticky beeswax off the beef—she froze for a moment.

When the cheeky Tang Huai and chubby Er Yong stood in her little kitchen, Xia Qing didn't feel much, but with Yang Jin standing here, Xia Qing felt her little kitchen looked a bit shabby and cramped.

Shabby is shabby—she didn't even have the building materials to put up a cattle shed, let alone the time or materials to upgrade this kitchen she herself didn't use.

Sensing Xia Qing secretly watching him, Yang Jin grew a little nervous as he scraped the beeswax, put down the knife, and asked with a smile, "Did you make this oven? It looks very sturdy and durable. The meat's almost ready—could you light the charcoal?"

"Sure." Xia Qing set the oven beside the stove, pulled out the bamboo basket holding the charcoal from the bottom of the bamboo rack nearby, and began lighting the fire.

This charcoal had been burned by Xia Qing from dead Yellow Lantern pine wood. Having been in the territory for over a year, Xia Qing's charcoal-burning skills had improved considerably; the charcoal she made now was already of very good quality, and didn't produce much smoke once lit.

Yang Jin stole a glance at Xia Qing crouching beside him, his heartbeat uncontrollably accelerating, and his ears slowly turning red.

After lighting the fire, Xia Qing stood up and asked, "Should I start steaming the rice now?"

"Yes. After Sister Qing gets the rice steaming, could you go pick some vegetables you'd like to eat?" If Xia Qing kept standing here, Yang Jin was afraid he'd lose his touch and ruin the meat.

That was, of course, fine.

Xia Qing efficiently rinsed the rice, placed four pieces of Green Lantern pumpkin on top of the rice, then picked up the vegetable basket and headed to Shed One to pick vegetables. There was already a hearty dish for lunch today; she'd pair it with a tangy, spicy stir-fried cucumber with chili, and make a tomato egg-drop soup—perfect!

"Is Third Brother there? I'm Xin Yu's cousin, Yu Wen Chuang. I've brought the edible Green Lantern hazel mushrooms newly cultivated at the Bai San base—shall I bring them over to you now, to add a dish to your lunch?"

From the lord's walkie-talkie came Yu Wen Chuang's deliberately cordial voice.

Hearing that Bai San had actually cultivated edible hazel mushrooms, Tang Huai's mouth was practically watering. But Yu Wen Chuang was calling for Zhang San, so no matter how greedy he was, he had to hold back.

After a full three minutes, Zhang Jingwu's voice finally came through the walkie-talkie: "Territory Seven has no trade needs."

After being refused by Territory Seven, Yu Wen Chuang shifted targets: "Lord Xia of Territory Three, are you there?"

At this, the lords pricked up their ears even more. Because apart from the newly arrived Yu Wen Chuang, everyone knew who was inside Xia Qing's territory.

Sure enough, Yang Jin's voice came through the walkie-talkie: "Xia Qing went to pick vegetables and didn't bring her walkie-talkie. Does Young Master Yu need something from her?"

Yu Wen Chuang was silent for a few seconds, then asked uncertainly, "You're Captain Yang of the Azure Dragon Squad?"

Yang Jin's voice carried a smile: "Young Master Yu must have had a brain domain evolution—your memory is even better than a first-level brain domain evolver's."

Everyone…

Why does it feel like the usually cold Captain Yang sounds completely different today?

Yu Wen Chuang was silent for a full ten seconds before asking, "Captain Yang is inside Miss Xia's territory?"

"Mm. I finally finished the squad's business and had some time to come over and rest for a bit, to grill the juicy beef Xia Qing had been craving before the Acid Rain. Does Young Master Yu need something from her?"

Everyone…

Yu Wen Chuang's voice was very calm: "There is indeed something I'd like to discuss with Miss Xia."

Yang Jin not only didn't refuse on Xia Qing's behalf, but even extended an invitation: "Has Young Master Yu had lunch? If not, come over and eat with us, and we can talk while we eat?"

You're in Territory Three—what is there even to discuss! Yu Wen Chuang replied irritably, "I've already eaten."

Yang Jin pressed the button again: "Alright. Are the hazel mushrooms Young Master Yu brought dried or fresh, and what supplies can be used for trade?"

Everyone…

Yu Wen Chuang was so angry he wanted to kill someone, but the Heavy Alliance was currently in a critical moment, and he didn't dare offend the captain of the number-one Azure Dragon Squad under Hui San to his face. He could only grit his teeth and reply calmly, "I'm very sorry, but I didn't bring many hazel mushrooms this time."

Inside Territory Two, Tang Huai was laughing so hard he was rolling on the floor.

A burnt smell drifted out of the small kitchen in Territory Three. Yang Jin frantically flipped the roasting meat, swiftly used a knife to cut off the burnt surface layer of the roast, blew on it twice, popped it into his mouth and swallowed it, then nonchalantly removed a few pieces of charcoal and continued roasting the meat.
