Chapter 1190: Poor Little Fellow
Wolf Lao Er, who had been watching fish inside Territory Three, heard the weasel pup's cries for help and immediately accelerated, vaulting over two layers of iron-mesh walls as it rushed over.
So when Xia Qing arrived at the scene, she saw three animals: the plucked-fur pup curled into a ball, Wolf Lao Er licking the pup's wounds, and tabby cat Little Old Five, who could barely stand, swaying this way and that while shaking her head, coughing, and retching.
The plucked-fur pup is the offspring of the toxic-gas Evolver plucked-fur weasel and the brain-domain acceleration Evolver Little Bai Mao.
This little fellow is smarter than its father—it's a brain-domain Evolver. Xia Qing has always suspected it's also a toxic-gas Evolver, so she's always been very reasonable with it, afraid of provoking it.
Little Old Five's current state is identical to that of the animals when the plucked-fur weasel blasted open the beast tide with its stench.
Based on this alone, Xia Qing, who was wearing a protective mask and couldn't smell the outside air, could already confirm that the plucked-fur pup is a dual-system Evolver of both brain domain and toxic gas.
Little Old Five has been poisoned. Xia Qing feels not the slightest bit of pity or guilt toward her—only anger.
All three scratch marks on the plucked-fur pup are bleeding!
Seeing Xia Qing arrive, Wolf Lao Er handed the pup to her, turned its head, and snarled at the tabby cat.
If Little Old Five hadn't already been poisoned, Xia Qing believed Wolf Lao Er would have charged in and killed her on the spot, because she had hurt a wolf pack's pup inside the pack's territory.
After checking the plucked-fur pup's injuries and breathing a sigh of relief, Xia Qing pressed the walkie-talkie button to contact her idol. "Third Brother, you there?"
Zhang San, who had been about to eat, was in a fairly good mood. "Go ahead."
"Hu Zifeng's tabby cat was hit by the weasel's evolved toxic gas—she's coughing, retching, shaking her head. What do you think we should do?"
Zhang San's voice instantly turned chilly. "Bring her over right now. Don't touch her with bare hands—put her in a bag."
"Got it."
Xia Qing quickly treated the wounds on the plucked-fur pup and didn't bother with Little Old Five.
Two minutes later, Hu Zifeng, who had gone back to grab a protective mask, rushed over. Seeing Little Old Five's condition, then looking at the injured weasel pup and Wolf Lao Er snarling at him, Hu Zifeng immediately understood what had happened. "Sister Qing, I'm sorry.
I didn't keep a close enough eye on Little Old Five and let her run over here and hurt the weasel pup."
To make management easier, the Green Dragon Squad divided Mountain Forty-Nine—which encompassed three mountain peaks and covered 180,000 mu—into several zones.
The mountain belt 1.5 kilometers north of the northern isolation strip of Zone One's territory was designated a restricted area. No group training was allowed there, to avoid stray bullets or cold weapons injuring personnel inside the territory.
This restricted area was divided into two zones: the restricted mountain belt north of Territories One, Three, and Four became Zone Three of Mountain Forty-Nine, under Xia Qing's jurisdiction. Wolf Valley, Wolf Den, the chestnut grove, and the evolved hornet colony are all within Zone Three. Territory Five and—? Your weasel is okay too, right?"
"Captain Hu is bringing the cat to Territory Seven. The weasel has some superficial wounds and is being treated."
Xia Qing replied, then pulled out disposable shoe covers, gloves, and a full-body disposable plastic isolation gown, and charged into the toxic-gas zone where scorpions, centipedes, and spiders were all fleeing outward.
Dammit, the area where the plucked-fur pup released its toxic gas happened to be the territory of the red squirrel Qiang Zai.
The midday period isn't the active time when red squirrels go out foraging, so this unlucky little fellow should have been guarding its food inside its tree hollow.
By now, it's very likely already been knocked out by the stench.
Before Xia Qing had even reached Qiang Zai's tree hollow, she spotted the poor little thing that had been overcome by the stench while trying to flee.
This spring, the freeloading big red squirrel gave birth to four little squirrels inside Xia Qing's sheep pen. Two of the pups grew up and left Xia Qing's territory, whereabouts unknown. The big red squirrel and Xiao Feimao—who was once grabbed by a hawk when young—have always lived inside Xia Qing's territory. Among the four pups, the boldest and sturdiest, the speed-Evolver Qiang Zai, established his own territory in Zone Three of Mountain Forty-Nine and has fattened himself up nicely.
But this little fellow's luck hasn't been great.
During this year's third Carnivorous Rain, he was lured by the scent, ran off, and ate the aggressive carnivorous grass growing on the territory passage. Xia Qing locked him in a cage for a long time. After he was released with an empty stomach, the little fellow started storing winter food and putting on weight. Just as he'd filled out nicely again, he got caught in the crossfire of the cat-squirrel battle and was knocked out by the stench.
