Chapter 1264: I Want His Whole Family to Die in Agony
Hui Three, Northern Zone One, human territory.
Tang Huai carried three black knives—large, medium, and small—on his back, stood on the signal tower between Territory Two and Center Nine in a pose brimming with vigor, raised his gun, and aimed at the high sky.
Inside Territory Six, Kuang Qingwei and Hearing Zhu Li both held guns exchanged with Xia Qing, hiding behind cover beside the large shed; the laser cannon inside Territory Seven silently poked out and looked up; Lord Huo Lei and Jiang Ying inside Territories Eleven and Fifteen had set up sniper crossbows; Wen Nengjie inside Territory Seventeen was both shouting at everyone to hold the shed and requesting aid from allies on the lord channel; fourteen-year-old junior sniper Wang Bo stepped out of Territory Twenty-Two with his gun, taking part in a beast-eradication mission issued by the inspection team for the first time.
Inside Territory Four, Zhao Ze gripped his pistol, watching the sky while keeping his ears pricked for base news, tracking the progress of the cross-base beast-eradication operation at every moment, hoping his good neighbor Xia Qing would hurry back to her territory.
High in the sky, over a hundred raptors were screeching and circling!
Hui One, Territory Twenty-Eight, Mountain Five, lockdown zone edge, helicopter command post.
Disaster-eradication assistant Tang Heng reported, "Commander, the Tiger-Wolf Alliance driving south has pushed more than two hundred medium and large beasts, reaching the scale of a medium beast tide."
"Commander, the wolf packs and hyenas in the southern evolution forest of Hui One and the wolf packs in the western evolution forest are gathering, with numbers exceeding one hundred and twenty."
"Commander, the tiger group in southern Hui Five has been disturbed by a human mission squad and is moving toward Liehuo Mountain. It has not yet triggered a beast tide."
"Commander, over forty giant lizards in northern Hui Eight are sprinting toward Liehuo Mountain, suspected to be under the influence of drugs. Surrounding animals are rapidly gathering toward the giant lizard group; the count has already exceeded two hundred."
Hui Eight is the base of the Doomsday Cult, Liehuo's sworn enemy; the giant lizard anomaly cannot be ruled out as related to the Doomsday Cult. The movement of the Hui Five tiger group was very likely also guided by Liehuo Squad's enemies.
Yan Yue rapidly calculated the animal numbers. "Commander, the number of medium and large animals taking part in this beast tide has already exceeded five hundred, making it a large beast tide. Based on the current advance speed, the first wave to reach Liehuo Mountain will be the southbound beast tide, in forty-eight to fifty-three minutes; the second wave will be the northbound giant lizard group, in forty-eight to fifty-five minutes."
Having finished the inspection task, Zhang Song, standing beside Zhang San, offered his view. "Commander, the southbound Tiger-Wolf Alliance is not advancing at full speed."
In the past, Zhang Song would have inferred that the medium and small animals in the tide were slowing the advance. But now, he believed the Tiger-Wolf Alliance was deliberately holding back its pace, intending to use howls along the way to contact fierce beasts from other directions and besiege Liehuo Mountain together.
Because the brain-evolved wolf in the southern wolf pack that Xia Qing called Old Fourth is no less intelligent than the brain-evolved macaque that led the macaque group and waged war against the Hui Six human safe zone for six years—Hui Six Number Eight.
This wolf is far too cunning and far too clever. If we don't use this chance to eliminate it, it may cause great disaster in the future.
But Zhang Song, who had personally witnessed the entire course of this conflict, knew very well that the party at fault in this conflict was not the evolved wolf—it was the human Liehuo Squad.
But even if Liehuo committed a crime, it should be punished by human law, not trampled by furious evolved beasts.
Zhang Song was deeply conflicted. His gaze shifted from the monitoring screen to the commander, waiting for his order.
Zhang San remained as cold and inhuman as ever. "Order all disaster-eradication personnel sent to Liehuo Mountain to move the toxic substances found inside Liehuo Mountain into the helicopters within forty minutes, then withdraw; order all personnel at Liehuo Mountain to find a way back to the Hui One safe zone within thirty-five minutes—anyone who cannot return on time is to immediately withdraw into the solid underground shelters inside Liehuo Mountain and must not engage the beast tide head-on; order—"
As the eight disaster-eradication assistants split up to notify the relevant personnel, Zhang San's phone rang. Zhang Guannan, commander of Hui City main base, was calling.
"Received!"
The captain of Xia Qing's squad, while relaying the commander's order to his team members, leapt out of the cabin and sprinted at full speed toward Luo Pei's squad.
The moment Xia Qing jumped down from the helicopter, she saw Luo Pei kick a Liehuo team member blocking the way flying, spin in place and sweep two more Liehuo team members away with her leg, then raise her pistol.
"Bang bang bang!"
"Bang!"
Luo Pei's pistol bullet and Xia Qing's sniper bullet left the chamber at the same instant—Luo Pei blasted open the warehouse door lock of the Liehuo pharmaceutical factory, and Xia Qing hit a sniper rifle two thousand one hundred meters away.
Then, bristling with killing intent, she swung her muzzle toward another Liehuo sniper only one thousand three hundred meters from her.
Anyone pointing a gun at disaster-eradication personnel may be shot dead on the spot under eradication regulations. The last shot was a warning; this time, what Xia Qing aimed at was not the gun.
The Liehuo sniper Xia Qing was pointing at immediately lowered his gun and shrank back into cover.
Luo Pei kicked open the warehouse door and waved Xia Qing over. When Xia Qing ran to the warehouse entrance, Luo Pei, in front of the long-faced inspection team, gave orders to the six eradication squads: "Move every bit of supplies in this warehouse onto the helicopter, now!"
"Understood!" The eradication team members who had a grudge against Liehuo roared so loudly the sky shook.
No need to say it—Yang Jin must have confirmed that these warehouse supplies contained contraband. Once these supplies are shipped back, Fire Phoenix won't be walking out of the criminal investigation team!
Top sniper Xia Qing slung her sniper rifle behind her back and joined the supply-carrying team.
Liehuo Mountain summit office.
Liao Wendong put down his phone. "We still can't reach the captain. The beast tide driven by the fierce beasts around us will arrive in one hour. The commander requires us to withdraw or take shelter underground within thirty-five minutes. Sister Zhou, what do we do now?"
Seeing Luo Pei down the mountain raise her sniper rifle and aim at her, Qu Fangzhou lowered her binoculars and spoke calmly: "Follow the commander's order. Squads One through Six, transfer the supplies from Warehouses Two and Three into the helicopter and return to the safe zone base; Squads Seven through Eighteen, move the remaining supplies and weapons into the underground shelters. One of us goes to the safe zone, the other hides in the shelter."
Liao Wendong clenched his fist. "Can't we use this beast tide to stay behind and not return to the safe zone? Once we're back in the safe zone, our supplies won't be safe."
Qu Fangzhou answered calmly, "This is the consequence of the disaster caused by our mistaken decision to attack the northern wolf pack, and it is the best choice under the current situation. All the supplies at Liehuo Mountain no longer belong to us."
Liao Wendong was unwilling. "The wolf corpses shouldn't have been discovered so quickly. There must be a traitor in our squad!"
There was no time left. Qu Fangzhou asked directly, "We're investigating. Are you going to the criminal investigation brigade, or into the underground shelter?"
Liao Wendong unclenched his fist and answered calmly, "I'll go to the safe zone, to the criminal investigation brigade. We've already been abandoned by Hui City base—there's no point in me staying outside. Sister Zhou, you absolutely must not let Pan Yuanwen go. I want his whole family to die in agony."
In Qu Fangzhou's calm eyes, too, hid a madness capable of destroying everything. "Rest a few days in the criminal investigation brigade. The captain and I will find a way to get you out. Your revenge, you'll take yourself."
"The large beast tide will arrive in eight minutes, hurry!" Luo Pei ordered through the walkie-talkie.
Xia Qing tossed a large bag of supplies hidden behind a medicine barrel that looked like it held seeds out of the warehouse. Watching Huo Zhun catch the bag, she spun and flung it to the cabin door ten meters away.
Two strength-evolvers at the cabin door caught the flying large bag and, riding the momentum, sent it into the cabin.
By the fourth minute, the warehouse had been emptied!
Amid the deafening beast roars, Xia Qing picked up two eradication personnel exhausted to the point of collapse, and, stepping on the trembling ground, leapt into the cabin of the already-started helicopter.
