Chapter 1421: Yang Jin's Wig
When Lao Si's big head appeared squarely in the phone screen, Xia Qing asked with a beaming smile, "Lao Si, are you busy?"
The old wolf in the cave stared silently for a few seconds at Xia Qing baring her teeth, then gave a small nod.
After telling the old wolf the reason for her call, Xia Qing asked, "Lao Si, would it be alright if I bring Huo Zhun and Yang Jin over tomorrow morning?"
Lao Si's face was solemn. He didn't nod.
"Is it that tomorrow morning won't work, or that I can't bring Huo Zhun and Yang Jin over? Got it—I can go over tomorrow morning, but Lao Si feels I shouldn't bring Yang Jin and the others."
After clarifying with Lao Si why he wasn't nodding, Xia Qing discussed it with him: "Lao Si, Yang Jin doesn't have to go, but according to the rules for forming a team for a mission, Vice Captain Huo Zhun is qualified to take part in the inventory and distribution of supplies. How about this—"
After Xia Qing laid out her plan in detail, the solemn old wolf finally nodded in agreement.
The wolf-human manager Xia Qing beamed, "Alright, tomorrow morning at nine I'll fly over with Huo Zhun in the helicopter. Lao Si, tidy up ahead of time too—once the supplies are distributed, you'll come back with me. We're going to start treating your teeth."
Seeing that Xia Qing was about to hang up, Yang Jin across from her immediately waved at Xia Qing to signal her, asking her to say hello to Lao Si for him.
Xia Qing fell silent for two seconds, then looked back at the screen and asked, "Lao Si, Yang Jin wants to show you his new fur coat. Do you want to see it?"
The solemn-faced Lao Si simply raised a paw and ended the call.
Xia Qing knew it would turn out this way, and explained to the fellow across from her who was brimming with enthusiasm, "Lao Si has never been much of a curious type."
Yang Jin, wearing a wig, wasn't disappointed in the slightest. He turned his head and asked brightly, "What does Sister Qing think of this wig? When the wolf sees it, will it think my combat power is very strong?"
How the wolf would feel about it Xia Qing couldn't be sure, but she thought Yang Jin, with his head of flaxen-gold curls tinged with grey, was a far cry from his usual image of a sharp, tough captain—and looked rather nice.
However, that was something Xia Qing would absolutely never say out loud, because in a certain way, Yang Jin was somewhat similar to Tang Huai and the Broken-Waist Wolf. If she said it looked good, this fellow would definitely show up in front of her in different wigs to show off, saying, "Did you pick this one to match Xie Yu's hairstyle?"
Xia Qing had seen Xie Yu's thick curls once and was deeply impressed.
"Right." Yang Jin took off the wig and handed it to Xia Qing. "I brought back six wigs. Does Sister Qing want to pick one?"
Xie Yu wore a hat because his golden curls made him look very boyish, with none of the imposing aura of a top team's third-in-command. Yang Jin now needed not only a thick wig that would make the wolf pack think he was strong, but also one that would make Xia Qing think he looked cute wearing it—and so he'd chosen this one.
Because Yang Jin's skin tone was on the bronze side, he hadn't picked Xie Yu's golden color, but rather one that suited him better. Seeing Xia Qing's expression, Yang Jin knew he'd chosen well, and asked happily, "Sister Qing, how about we both put on wigs and call the Broken-Waist Wolf?"
Xia Qing firmly rejected Yang Jin's childish idea. "Forget it. Today we have to hurry up and clear the invasive grass and shovel snow. If you want to play, go find Tang Huai—he'd definitely love it."
Yang Jin had rushed over through the night not to play with the Tang family's second fool. "Let's shovel snow first!"
Xia Qing nodded. "You drive the micro-tiller to clear the snow by the greenhouse. I'll clear the area near the yard."
Yang Jin quickly tidied up the dishes. "No problem. Sister Qing isn't using the micro-tiller?"
Xia Qing shook her head. "No need. The snow in the yard's already been piled up. I'll have Ram Boss pull a cart and haul it out."
"Alright." He hoped that by this time next year, he could be in the yard with Xia Qing, loading snow into the ram-cart.
Xia Qing first made a round of the livestock greenhouse and the beekeeping greenhouse, putting out a bundle of corn stalks for the little yellow ox, and feed for the chickens and mealworms, then sent Daigua and Ergua to the fig greenhouse, stuffing a short-handled hoe into each monkey's hand and telling them to weed the figs.
After coming out, Xia Qing instructed the wolf-dog who was catching snow springtails, "Wolf Lao Er, Daigua and Ergua are weeding in that greenhouse. Go check on them in a bit, and you can bring the weeds out to feed the fish."
Wolf Lao Er, with a small basket in his mouth, gave a happy wag of his tail.
Xia Qing went back to the village, took the hardness-evolved bamboo ram-drawn sled from the garage, and with great enthusiasm hitched up the eager Ram Boss, then began clearing the snow in the yard.
Over the walkie-talkie channel came Qi Fu's inquiry: "There are unusually many snow springtails in the invasive snow this year. I wonder if it has anything to do with the evolution of anaerobic bacteria in the soil."
Zhu Li, who had performed outstandingly in her work at the Soil Research Department, answered, "The two show a positive correlation, but the degree of correlation hasn't been calculated yet."
Hearing Zhu Li's words, Huo Zhun immediately put his full strength into shoveling snow with the snow shovel, quickly putting distance between himself and his old man.
Before Huo Zhun could get far, Tang Huai came online. "Sister Li only got her middle-school diploma half a year ago, and she's already learned and applied statistical knowledge to professional research. Amazing, amazing!"
Huo Zhun……
Shi Du!!!
Xia Qing, who was in the middle of shoveling snow, thought of the situation in Territory Eleven and couldn't help laughing out loud. "Boss, that's enough. Pull this cart of snow out and dump it. Can one ram handle it alone?"
Ram Boss immediately tossed his head proudly, pulled the cart out of the yard, left the abandoned village, and once he reached the spot, he pulled himself out of the harness on his own, then backed up a few steps and charged forward, using his spiral horn to tip the snow-cart over, pawed it back upright with his hooves, ducked back into the harness, and headed home pulling it.
In the basement, little Ye Yiyi, hugging a little wool-felt sheep, saw the whole thing and her eyes went wide.
Zhang Shi asked gently, "Does Yiyi want to come outside with me to shovel snow? That way we can see Ram Boss pulling the snow-cart."
Yang Jin was working the micro-tiller by the field, so his position was easy to pinpoint. The territory was very safe right now, so Xia Qing told Zhang Shi she could take Ye Yiyi up to the surface for some activity.
Little Ye Yiyi hesitated for a few seconds, then slowly stood up.
"Boss, you're back already?! You're truly the leading ram of our territory, the pride of Blue Star's evolved rams!" Xia Qing praised Ram Boss enthusiastically while quickly loading him up with a cart of snow. "Boss, are you tired? Can you still pull this snow-cart?"
Ram Boss shot Xia Qing a sideways glance, ducked into the harness, and charged out pulling a cartload of snow, determined to show his useless underling whether he was tired or not.
As Ram Boss trotted past quickly with the cart, he drew the full attention of the little girl in a protective suit and clutching a little wool sheep outside the lab. The tiny tot walked step by step along the cleared path, heading outside.
Zhang Shi didn't disturb her, and used the snow shovel to pile the snow into a heap, so that once Xia Qing finished shoveling the snow in her yard, she could come over and load up the cart.
