Chapter 1569: Yanlong

Seeing another evolved wolf come over to provoke them, Yanlong, the captain of the Jiaolong Special Operations Team, felt her fighting spirit surge.

Upon seeing the creature on Xia Qing's head, Yanlong, a Level 9 olfactory-evolved human, immediately lowered her flag and ceased her drums. She straightened up, let her hands hang at her sides, and asked in the gentlest voice she had ever used, "Xia Qing, is that groundhog on your head the one that defeated Little Fifth and plucked his fur?"

Xia Qing felt warm being surrounded by her companions, especially on her head. Because she, like Yanlong, wasn't wearing a protective mask, the groundhog's belly was pressed directly against her head—it was impossible not to feel warm.

If the groundhog attacked with poison gas, she would definitely have to shave her head and become the target of the wolf pack's ridicule. Therefore, Xia Qing responded to Yanlong in a soft, gentle voice, reminding her not to be impulsive.

"That's right, this is the descendant of the groundhog that cooperated with Sister Yan and Brother Jin once last year. It's also a poison gas-evolved creature. The groundhog must have seen you fighting the Handsome Giant Wolf and thought you were an intruder, so it called the pack over. Groundhog, thank you for bringing your companions to save me and the Handsome Giant Wolf. Waist-Breaker, where did you all come from? Is it the Third Zone of Mountain Forty-Nine?"

The groundhog was not a speed-evolved creature, and its voice wasn't loud enough to summon the wolf pack with a howl. The fact that it brought reinforcements just fifteen minutes after the Handsome Giant Wolf and Yanlong started fighting meant this group of reinforcements had been at the bamboo rat shed on the third peak of Mountain Forty-Nine just moments ago.

Aside from Waist-Breaker, the Black Wolf, and the Big Guy, the rest of these reinforcements were little wolves born last spring. This indicated that the Northern Wolf Pack's second-in-command was training the pups, and after training, they were going to the bamboo rat shed on the third peak to feast as a reward for these little guys.

These little ones, who would soon be one year old, would quickly become "big guys" because the wolf pack's new generation of pups was about to be born. The wolves born in the eleventh year of the Great Disaster were considered adults by the pack; what status they could achieve in the pack depended on themselves.

If they didn't fare well here, they would leave the Northern Wolf Pack—either to join another pack, form their own, or become lone wolves wandering in the Evolved Forest.

Hearing Xia Qing's question, the Northern Wolf Pack's second leader, Waist-Breaker, didn't turn back. He kept his amber eyes fixed on the human who didn't dare to breathe, flicked his tail slightly, and signaled for Xia Qing to step back.

If Xia Qing stepped back now, she would definitely be beaten until she couldn't get up by Yanlong when she turned around. Does Daigua wasn't in the territory, and there was a lot of work at home waiting for her; Xia Qing absolutely could not afford to lie down. Carrying the groundhog, she limped forward, passed through the Three-Child and Little Four-Eyes, stood between the Little Wolf Sister and the Little Wolf Brother, and explained the current situation to her companions.

"Waist-Breaker, my personal combat ability is very weak, and I am learning how to fight from Sister Yan. The Handsome Giant Wolf also wants to improve its combat power, so it came over too. Look, neither my bones nor the Handsome Giant Wolf's are broken, and there's no blood on our fur. We're just a bit tired and will recover soon."

"Woo—"

Waist-Breaker let out a majestic roar and flicked his tail more vigorously, clearly signaling Xia Qing to retreat. The Little Wolf Sister beside him stepped forward twice to block Xia Qing, assumed an attacking stance, bared her sharp fangs, and let out a roar she considered very majestic. In the Little Wolf Brother's gold-colored wolf eyes, the same murderous intent as the Northern Wolf King flickered.

Looking at the brain-domain evolved wolf that had been lying beside her just a few days ago learning how to operate a micro-robot with a laptop, and was now surrounding her with a pack of wolves, Yanlong remained very calm.

A hero is no match for a crowd; the strong cannot withstand a multitude of wolves. The wolf pack was best at group combat. If this group of wolves attacked together, Yanlong would definitely not be their match without weapons. She wouldn't even need the whole pack; she couldn't handle the one on Xia Qing's head alone. The reason she was calm was that Xia Qing could restrain this group of wolves.

Over the past two years, the area where Xia Qing had made the most rapid progress wasn't her sniping ability, but her cross-species communication ability.

Seeing this scene, Xia Qing knew that if she didn't use a ruthless tactic today, things wouldn't end well. "Brother Handsome Wolf, in order to learn the most powerful human fighting techniques from Sister Yan, I gave her 50,000 points as tuition. If you lead the pack to injure Sister Yan, I won't be able to continue learning, and you'll have to compensate me 100,000 points."

Yanlong...

The murderous Waist-Breaker's expression turned serious the moment he heard about compensating points.

"Little Wolf Sister, your incisors haven't fully grown yet. If you rush up to fight Sister Yan now, your incisors might grow crooked. Do you want to become a crooked-toothed wolf?"

The murderous Little Wolf Sister immediately shut her mouth.

Yanlong...

"Little Wolf Brother, you didn't catch a gazelle this morning, did you? If you waste your energy fighting Sister Yan now, will you be able to catch a gazelle today?"

Visibly, the Little Wolf Brother's momentum weakened.

"Woo!!!"

The Handsome Giant Wolf roared, pushed aside Waist-Breaker in front, and charged at Yanlong again.

Waist-Breaker majestically called a halt to the little wolves who wanted to follow, let them all retreat, and then turned his head to look seriously at Xia Qing.

Xia Qing, who turned and limped toward her backpack, answered Waist-Breaker's question, "Today is the Handsome Giant Wolf's first time participating in Sister Yan's special training. It's a trial session; Sister Yan hasn't said whether she'll accept it yet, so no tuition has been paid. Don't worry, Waist-Breaker, if Sister Yan is willing to teach the Handsome Giant Wolf, I will pay its tuition."

Xia Qing turned back and saw this guy wearing a thoughtful expression, so she immediately added a patch, "I still need to save points to build a house. If other wolves want to participate in special training, you'll have to pay the points yourself."

Waist-Breaker felt bored, turned around, and lay on a rock, watching the Handsome Giant Wolf and Yanlong exchange blows with the little wolves.

"Awoo!!!"

Hearing the little wolves cheer, Xia Qing, who was digging eggs out for the groundhog, turned back and saw that the Handsome Giant Wolf had actually torn a palm-sized hole in the Level 2 outdoor protective suit Yanlong was wearing!

That was Yanlong of the Jiaolong Special Operations Team! The Handsome Giant Wolf was truly amazing; it was worthy of being the Northern Wolf Pack's third-ranked combatant!

Afraid that the Handsome Giant Wolf would get too excited and lose its sense of proportion, Xia Qing reminded it loudly, "Brother Giant Wolf, Yanlong is my companion. It's fine for you two to spar, but don't use ruthless claws, Brother Giant Wolf, or I won't brew the strength-enhancing potion for you anymore!"

"Nonsense! Come again!"

Yanlong was having such a good time fighting that she let out a roar and charged forward. After a few moves, she actually managed to mount the neck of the Handsome Giant Wolf! The Handsome Giant Wolf, a wolf of few words and many actions, slammed fiercely into a rock. Yanlong jumped off immediately, and the human and wolf tumbled into a brawl once more.

After watching for over ten minutes, the Waist-Severed Wolf looked solemnly at Xia Qing, who was currently surrounded by the wolf pups.

Xia Qing, whose face was covered in black and blue bruises and who had one eye swollen red from being punched, started by negotiating the trade, "Waist-Severed one, the little wolf sister and little wolf brother ate 16 eggs, so you owe me 2400 points. The plucked brat doesn't count; I'm treating that one."

After the Waist-Severed Wolf bared its teeth to acknowledge the debt, it let out a roar to tell the wolf pups to stay away from Xia Qing, then raised a claw to point at Yanlong.
