Chapter 1724: Blue-Faced Golden Snub-nosed Monkey H2
Pianhu is a brain-domain evolved Tiger King—when not poisoned, its combat power is certainly off the charts. Sneaking deep into its core territory to poison it is no easy task.
When she saw the Blue Blood Alliance squad sent to kill Pianhu returning with an evolved macaque, Xia Qing guessed that the one who poisoned Pianhu was likely a tamed beast. Because human targets are too large and very hard to evade an evolved tiger's notice.
The task of using pine resin to firmly stick resin containing the targeted toxin Agent 18 onto the big pine tree Pianhu rubs against probably wasn't done by a tamed bird, because a tamed bird's claws aren't that dexterous.
Therefore, Xia Qing felt that the one sent into Pianhu's territory was very likely a primate—a macaque, golden snub-nosed monkey, orangutan, baboon, or the like.
When Pianhu moved into the Roaring Evolution Forest of Mountain No. 50 and the blue-faced little monkey was so scared by its roar that it got diarrhea, Xia Qing wondered if it might be this clever little monkey—fitted with a weak-electric collar by humans and sent into Xiong Qun's territory—that had poisoned Pianhu.
So Xia Qing printed out pictures of primates and went with Lao Si to Mountain No. 50, taking advantage of Pianhu being in a good mood to ask which primates it had seen inside its core territory.
From a long row of pictures, Pianhu picked out the macaque and the golden snub-nosed monkey.
The western tiger group's territory and the western wolf group's territory both border the Evolution Forest of Hui-6 Base, so it was reasonable for Pianhu to have seen macaques in its core territory—but golden snub-nosed monkeys were a different story.
There are no wild golden snub-nosed monkeys in the Evolution Forests of western Hui-3 or eastern Hui-6, so the one who poisoned Pianhu was very likely an evolved golden snub-nosed monkey born, raised, and tamed at the Hui-7 Golden Snub-nosed Monkey Breeding Center.
During the emergency disaster-elimination mission in Mountain Region No. 31, the Blue Blood Alliance spy Huang Ju from the Aurora Squad secretly dug out the toxin-containing resin from the big pine tree and buried it. Eight days have now passed and no one has come to retrieve the loot; Xia Qing felt no one would come for it afterward either.
Because the idol had already given a detailed account at the exchange meeting in Territory No. 7 of Pianhu being poisoned, Fierce Fire researching targeted-toxin soybeans, and the Blue Blood Alliance contacting the cancer-stricken Wu Chengyu. Retrieving the toxin-containing resin would only expose the poisoner and no longer held any value.
With that lead gone, Xia Qing opened a new one. She gazed gently and patiently at the only golden snub-nosed monkey connection she currently had access to, waiting for this clever blue-faced little monkey to make its own decision.
She waited a full five minutes—until Xia Qing heard the earth-shaking galloping of Xiong Wang—when the blue-faced little monkey finally raised its little paw covered in golden-yellow fur and wrote two characters on the stone:
H2
Xia Qing kept her magnetic field stable and gently asked, "Blue-face, do you mean: the one who went into Pianhu's territory to plant the resin was the golden snub-nosed monkey designated H2 from the Golden Snub-nosed Monkey Research Center at Hui-7 Institute, is that right?"
The blue-faced little monkey, curled into a ball, nodded rapidly.
"Alright, thank you, Blue-face, for telling me such important intelligence. This whole bag of food is yours." After handing the bag containing six jin of food to the blue-faced little monkey, Xia Qing took out another bag of dried dragon fruit and gently asked, "Blue-face, may I ask you one more question? I'll trade this bag of green-light dried dragon fruit for it."
Xiong Wang was about to arrive, so the blue-faced little monkey first hid the food it had traded for inside the big banyan tree, then poked its little head out from the leaves and looked at Xia Qing.
Xia Qing gently asked, "Blue-face, how did you know that H2 went into Pianhu's territory to place the resin?"
The blue-faced little monkey let out a high-frequency cry. Xia Qing couldn't understand its meaning, but she could hear the sadness in the call. Her heart tightened, and seizing the last chance, she asked, "Blue-face, does this question make you very sad? I'm sorry, I can't understand your words—can you write it down for me?"
"Thump, thump, thump, thump!"
The moment Xia Qing's words fell, the high-speed Xiong Wang landed right in front of her. The wild gust of air blew the mist off the trees and splashed onto Xia Qing.
The three little monkeys had already hugged their respective supplies and hidden up in the trees. Xia Qing raised a hand to wipe the leaves and grass bits stuck on her protective visor, and saw a giant black paw in front of her—one slap from it could flatten her.
"Bear Bro, I've come to deliver supplies to Daigua and Ergua, and medicine to the blue-faced little monkey."
Having arrived at Xiong Wang's territory, she naturally had to pay her respects. Xia Qing cheerfully opened her backpack, took out a yellow-light big white radish from inside, and handed it over. "Bear Bro, try this—it's a radish I just traded for. It's juicy and tastes great; humans, goats, and monkeys all like eating it."
Xiong Wang sat down and started crunching on the radish. After crunching through four, the fellow stopped taking radishes and fixed its sneaky black eyes on Xia Qing's backpack.
Xia Qing took out a cabbage from her backpack, placed it on the giant black paw, and made her request. "Bear Bro, may I go over to those trees and pick some of the ripe yellow little fruits?"
Although this basin was shrouded in mist and it was impossible to see from the air what plants were inside, Xia Qing was a regular here, so she knew there were several loquat trees in the basin.
When Daigua had wiped its little black paw with a disinfecting wipe earlier, yellow juice came off on it. Xia Qing deduced that the loquat tree's fruit must have ripened.
Since she was already here, of course she had to take some of the basin's local specialties back—otherwise she'd be at a loss.
Xiong Wang, crunching on the cabbage, said nothing and extended its other giant black paw.
Xia Qing took out the most valuable trade good from her backpack—a small jar of honey—placed it on Xiong Wang's paw, and asked again, "Bear Bro, may I go over to those trees and pick some of the ripe yellow little fruits?"
"Roar." Xiong Wang, holding the cabbage in one paw and the honey in the other, gave a pleased grunt of assent.
"Thank you, my lord Xiong Wang. Take your time eating—I'm going to pick fruit." Xia Qing nimbly shouldered her backpack and ran toward the loquat trees, afraid that if she ran too slowly Xiong Wang would extend its black paw at her again.
She quickly ran to the area where the loquat trees grew and, sure enough, spotted several ripe loquat fruits on the damp grass—bitten by some unknown animal. She immediately took out her Yi-element detector, tested over a dozen fruits, and finally found green-light ones. She whipped out her cat-claw shoes and started climbing the tree.
She had only climbed five or six meters up when she heard the sound of something hard being thrown from above.
Xia Qing swiftly swung to the other side of the trunk, drew her gun, and aimed at the source of the sound.
Seeing that the one attacking her was a baboon queen with a long red face, Xia Qing holstered her gun and shouted at the top of her lungs, "Bear Bro—a baboon is stealing your green-light loquat fruits—"
The baboon king, hearing Xia Qing's shout, immediately began calling "Wah—oo," "Wah—oo," and the baboon troop hiding in the trees joined in with their cries.
Xia Qing's voice certainly couldn't out-shout a troop of baboons, but she had plenty of confidence!
Xiong Wang, having finished crunching the cabbage, came thudding over and let out an earth-shaking, furious roar at the baboon troop, scaring the fruit-stealing baboons into a frantic scramble to flee.
"Thank you, Bear Bro—you really are the giant bear standing at the very top of Blue Star's pyramid!
With Xiong Wang's help, Xia Qing had a loquat tree heavy with green-light fruit all to herself. After enthusiastically praising Xiong Wang, she called her friends over to pick loquats. "Daigua, Ergua, Blue-face—come over and eat loquats—"
