Chapter 312: The Wolf Pack Attacks

"Captain Xie?"

Getting a call from the second-in-command of the Azure Dragon Squad so late at night, Xia Qing's first thought was that something had happened on Luo Pei's side.

Xie Yu consulted with Xia Qing, "Xia Qing, more than twenty evolved wolves have gathered at the edge of the swamp in the northern part of Mountain 49. The purpose is unknown. Can you bring your evolved wolf to the Number One Territory monitoring room?"

Over the past half year, the only wolf pack active near Mountain 49 had been the Queen and her subordinates. Luo Pei was receiving treatment inside Number One Territory, and Xie Yu had come over too, which showed how tense the situation had become recently. Once the wolf pack entered the Mountain 49 area, it was very likely to clash with the Azure Dragon Squad.

Xia Qing immediately stood up, "I'll reach the North Isolation Belt in ten minutes."

Xie Yu immediately gestured to the nearby Beard Feng squad, "Good. Beard Feng will go pick you up, and send people to protect Number Three Territory."

After hanging up, Xia Qing immediately put on her protective suit, slung a sniper rifle on her back with plenty of bullets, picked up the sick wolf's protective mask and went downstairs. She told Sheep Leader, who was on the tatami, "Boss, I'm taking Lao Er out on a mission. Watch the house. The rest of the territory will be guarded by Beard Feng's squad."

Sheep Leader turned to look at the pitch-black window, then turned back to look at Xia Qing.

"Yes, a mission at night, there's an emergency." Xia Qing stuffed a compressed ration into its mouth, then put night-vision goggles on it, and said softly, "Boss, you're the lead sheep of our territory, the strongest line of defense of our territory. After Lao Er and I leave, I'm leaving the home to you."

Before Xia Qing could speak, Sheep Leader first went click-clop upstairs to check the locked fridge, then ran to the tool room to check the fish sleeping at the bottom of the water tank, then kicked open the door to the yard, lay down on the dry haystack by the chicken coop, and continued to squint its eyes and chew its cud.

The camera in the southeast corner of the yard captured Sheep Leader's figure, accurately identified it, and did not send out an alert.

After meeting up with Xia Qing and the sick wolf, Beard Feng waved his hand, signaling Xia Qing not to make any sound, and led the sick wolf quickly through the isolation belt, into Zone 3 of Mountain 49, and arrived at the monitoring room at the entrance of Mountain 49.

Xia Qing had passed by the monitoring room several times, but had never gone inside. The sick wolf expressed its unwillingness to go in even more clearly through its actions.

Xia Qing consulted with Beard Feng, "Captain Hu, are there many people inside?"

Beard Feng understood, "Wait a moment."

Not long after he went in, four people came out, including Xie Yu. Xie Yu greeted Xia Qing, "You and Beard Feng take the wolf inside. I'll wait outside."

After Xie Yu led the people away from the monitoring room, Xia Qing consulted with the sick wolf, "Lao Er, there's no one inside. Shall we go in and take a look? After we look, we'll come right out and head back to our territory."

This time the sick wolf showed no resistance, and followed Xia Qing into the monitoring room.

"This wolf is a brain-domain evolver, right? Amazing." The person following Xie Yu muttered quietly.

Advanced brain-domain evolver Xie Yu gave an affirmative answer, "Not an outstanding brain-domain evolver, but its IQ isn't low. It can understand human language and actions, and its sense of smell is also outstanding. Which one of you didn't carefully clean your protective suit?"

One team member lowered his head in shame. Xie Yu glanced at him, "Tomorrow, clean every toilet in the territory."

"Yes!"

"These past few days, the Sufeng Squad and Number Two Territory have been making small moves constantly. Just this afternoon, Qian Lin of Sufeng led his team northward again along the route they took last time, and only pulled out when it was nearly dark. Just fifteen minutes ago, Qian Lin's squad left the territory again and headed for the valley between Mountain 49 and Mountain 50. Captain Xie suspects the gathering of the wolf pack is related to Qian Lin's squad, which is why he asked you to come take a look."

After speaking, he enlarged the footage captured by the reconnaissance bird, "This wolf pack is very alert. The reconnaissance bird didn't dare get too close. This is the clearest footage captured. Do you think it's the Queen's group?"

Seeing so many evolved wolves gathered under the trees, even through the screen, Xia Qing felt the tense atmosphere. After carefully identifying them, Xia Qing shook her head.

The Queen wasn't there. The Broken-Waist Wolf, the Broken-Leg Wolf, and a black wolf and a gray wolf she recognized were not in the footage.

Xia Qing rubbed the sick wolf's chin, pointed at the footage, and asked softly, "Lao Er, are these wolves your companions?"

The sick wolf squatting beside Xia Qing opened its mouth, stuck out its tongue, and panted.

Xia Qing understood, "These are the Queen's and Lao Er's companions…"

Before Xia Qing could finish, she heard Xie Yu talking to Beard Feng through the walkie-talkie, "Beard Feng, tell Xia Qing the wolf pack has crossed the swamp and is about to enter the Mountain 49 area. Camera Six."

"Copy that. Xia Qing's evolved wolf has confirmed this wolf pack is its companions." Beard Feng spoke while pointing at the display for Camera Six on the monitoring wall, letting Xia Qing see, "The route the wolf pack is taking is the same route Qian Lin and his team walked this afternoon."

The wolves hadn't yet appeared on the screen, but Xia Qing's expression was grave. She suspected Qian Lin was carrying the powder Jiang Xiong's squad used to lure and trap wolves.

Beard Feng relayed Xie Yu's words again, "Xia Qing, can you get Lao Er to drive this wolf pack away? We don't want a conflict with the wolf pack."

"I'll try." Xia Qing consulted with the sick wolf, "Lao Er, some humans want to lure the wolf pack over here and capture them. Can you get your companions to retreat and return to a safe area?"

Seeing that two wolves had already appeared on the display, Xia Qing pointed at the screen again and repeated what she'd just said to the sick wolf very seriously.

The sick wolf stopped panting, turned around and walked out of the monitoring room, raised its head, and let out a long wolf howl.

"Aooo—woo—"

"Aooo—woo—"

The sick wolf was much better now, and its howl was much louder. Xia Qing heard a warning in its howl.

After the sick wolf howled a third time, Beard Feng came out of the monitoring room, "The wolf pack is starting to pull back."

Xia Qing patted the sick wolf's neck, stuffed a piece of jerky into its protective suit pocket, "Lao Er, you head home first. I still have some things to take care of. Protect our chickens."

The sick wolf nuzzled Xia Qing's leg, then turned and disappeared into the dark night.

Beard Feng gave Xia Qing a thumbs-up. Impressive. This wolf was more obedient to Xia Qing than before the migratory bird season when it left the territory. This wolf was no longer a wild wolf from the Evolution Forest, but Xia Qing's tamed beast.

Xia Qing consulted with Beard Feng, "Captain Hu, ask Brother Kuan and the others to keep guarding my territory a while longer. I'm going to take care of Qian Lin's squad."

Before Beard Feng could speak, Xie Yu came over from a distance with his men, "Sister Qing, go back and rest. They won't survive tonight."

Hearing Xie Yu call her "Sister," Xia Qing felt a bit helpless, but didn't correct him in front of everyone. She only consulted with him, "Before you make a move, Captain Xie, ask about the wolf howls in the loudspeaker, and what they're using to attract the wolf pack."

Xie Yu nodded, "Don't worry. Qian Lin won't have the face to meet King Yama until he's spilled everything. Sister Qing, are you planning to get your evolved wolf an official identity?"
