Chapter 321: My Cat Doesn't Catch Birds

"Third Brother, Territory Five needs it, thanks." Qi Fu immediately signed up.

"Territory Ten needs it too!" Shi Zhong followed right after.

"Territory Six needs it too." Kuang Qingwei signed up, followed by Territory Four and Territory Two, and even Territory Nine threw in a name.

A free corn guardian—only a fool wouldn't sign up.

Except Xia Qing, because cats don't like her.

Zhang San replied lazily, "I only have two cats, so Territory Five and Territory Ten it is. I'll have someone send them over for the mission, until your corn is dried."

Qi Fu and Shi Zhong hurriedly agreed, while the others only regretted being too slow and missing out on the free bird-catching evolved cats.

Tang Huai called Beard Feng, "Crazy man, don't you have a cat too? Lend it to me, I swear I'll feed it till it's fat."

Whether it catches birds or not doesn't matter—he really wants to pet a cat.

Beard Feng replied, "My cat doesn't catch birds."

Tang Huai asked, "Then what does it like to catch? Fish, mice, bugs?"

"It likes to sunbathe."

Tang Huai got angry, "What the hell do you mean, are you messing with me?"

Beard Feng snorted, "I'm a man with a cat, no time to mess with you."

Tang Huai got even angrier, cursing and grumbling.

Zhang San asked, "Beard Feng, what does Little Fifth usually eat?"

Beard Feng immediately replied, "Little Fifth likes to eat fish, small birds, and bird eggs—especially green-light ones. But it doesn't like to catch them; I catch them and clean them up before feeding it."

Everyone...

Zhang San's tone softened considerably, "You've raised the cat well. Bring Little Fifth back to visit when you have time."

Beard Feng was full of pride, "Sure thing, Third Brother. Little Fifth is both smart and pretty cute. It likes eating the prey I catch—it's my honor."

Everyone was speechless.

It's already the tenth year of the apocalypse, and Beard Feng is still willing to keep a cat that can't catch prey. What's the point of raising it? Got so much meat you can't finish it?

Only Xia Qing, who had seen Little Fifth's lethally cute little face, felt heartache—she also wanted to catch fish to feed the cat.

She thought the discussion would end here and shift to the Territory Two and Territory One squabble. But to everyone's surprise, Territory Eight's lord Seeing Xin Yu suddenly came online.

"Territory Eight has an evolved sea eagle that can drive away and capture birds gathering in various territories. Same conditions as Territory Seven's lord. Which territory needs it?"

Territory Eight's lord usually doesn't come online, but the moment he does, it's a big move. All the lords were shocked.

Although everyone had long known Territory Eight had an evolved sea eagle recovering from injury, no one expected the eagle's injury to actually heal—not only can it fly and hunt, it can come out and work to earn birds.

Will the injured evolved eagle Seeing Xin Yu exchanged with Xia Qing before the insect disaster also be able to come out and work after a while?

Qi Fu asked, "Seeing Xin Yu, your sea eagle won't hurt people, right?"

Seeing Xin Yu answered, "No. It's a properly certified tamed beast that passed the assessment. As long as you don't attack it, it won't fight back. I'll put a tracker on it and monitor its location in real time to keep it from crossing boundaries."

Tang Huai was puzzled, "Seeing Xin Yu, why are you releasing the eagle? You're not short on the few points it takes to feed it."

"Tang Huai!" Tang Zhengpo sternly stopped his son, not letting him keep being stupid.

What does that mean? Zhang San is short on points to feed birds, so he lets his cats out for missions?

What if Zhang San gets petty and next time draws two extra tubes of blood from his son or has him eat some poison? The one who suffers is still this idiot who can't control his mouth.

After shutting his son up, Tang Zhengpo tried to smooth things over, "Third Brother and Seeing Xin Yu letting their precious tamed beasts out for missions is to help everyone, and also to train the tamed beasts. I'm old and slow, so I missed out on Third Brother's cats. This time I'll sign up first. Territory Twelve needs the evolved sea eagle to drive away birds. Seeing Xin Yu, sorry for the trouble."

"Territory Two needs it too." Tang Huai, who had just said the wrong thing, hurriedly signed up.

After Zhao Ze and Kuang Qingwei also signed up, everyone heard another long-absent voice.

"Territory One needs it too. Thanks for your hard work."

Xia Qing's face lit up with joy—Brother Luo!!!

Although his voice still sounded weak, the fact that Luo Pei could come online meant the medicine Yang Jin brought back was working, and Luo Pei could come out to socialize.

Zhao Ze immediately tried to get close, "Brother Luo, it's been a long time since we've heard you online. What have you been busy with lately?"

Xia Qing... Zhao Ze, you should just go down and send your mom instead.

Luo Pei answered gently, "I wasn't feeling well for a while before, been recuperating. I'm better recently."

Hearing that Luo Pei wasn't feeling well, everyone offered their greetings and well-wishes.

Tang Huai suddenly asked, "Xia Qing, you don't need Seeing Xin Yu's sea eagle to chase birds? Could it be that birds hate you too?"

"Tang Huai." Tang Zhengpo's voice was still gentle, but clearly carried a warning, "Come back for dinner."

Tang Huai immediately backed down, "Dad, I've been busy these past couple of days, I'll go back in a couple of days."

It seemed Tang Huai hadn't told his dad about his injury. Xia Qing answered Tang Huai's stupid question, "I have chickens in my territory. I'm afraid they'll get startled and stop laying eggs, so I grabbed the eagle along with everyone else. My sheep can also chase birds."

You guys have cats and birds, but I have sheep, wolves, and squirrels—I can chase birds just the same.

Xia Qing turned to Sheep Boss and Sick Wolf, who were husking corn, and said, "Boss, Wolf Lao Er, hear that? Territory Seven's cats can chase birds, Territory Nine's eagle can chase birds too. We can't let them outdo us. The corn in the territory is in your hands!"

"I'll husk the corn, you two go out and chase birds. As long as you don't let the birds damage the greenhouse or steal the corn, Boss gets compressed rations as a reward, Wolf Lao Er gets stewed bird!"

Sick Wolf immediately wagged its tail and rushed out to the greenhouse, driving away the birds. Although it couldn't drive the birds off completely, no bird dared to land and peck at the insect netting and rainproof cloth on the greenhouse.

Sheep Boss wasn't interested in chasing birds and kept struggling with the corn under its hooves, looking determined not to stop until every kernel was cleanly husked.

This thing was strong, and Xia Qing was afraid it would stomp all the corn flat. She went over and coaxed it nicely for a while before Sheep Boss finally let the corn go and went out to pounce on birds.

A wolf and a sheep are both land animals, so their bird-chasing effect wasn't ideal. Sick Wolf's emotions were still relatively stable, but the bad-tempered Sheep Boss had already gotten angry and started ramming into trees and rocks to chase the birds.

Xia Qing drew her gun and shot dead several birds that had deliberately provoked Sheep Boss. After intimidating the flock, she went back to continue husking corn.

After husking all the corn and bagging it, Xia Qing and Sheep Boss, taking advantage of their strength-type evolver abilities, hauled all the corn home in two trips, spread it out on the roof of the rack building, and covered it with the same covers used for drying cotton.

Birds aren't interested in cotton, but they're very interested in corn. Big and small birds squatted on the pointed roofs of the sheep pen, chicken coop, and main house.

If there were brain-domain evolved organizers among these birds, they could easily team up, lift the covers, and steal the corn kernels. So they couldn't just rely on Sheep Boss and the evolved wolf to defend passively—they had to take the initiative.

Xia Qing stood on the roof, her vision and hearing fully extended, searching the flock for any brain-domain evolved birds hiding among them.
