Chapter 384: Special Protective Suit

~7 min read 1,400 words

The unspoken agreement with the Miss in front of him made Yang Jin feel thoroughly at ease. "This unit price already factors in the conditions you mentioned; otherwise it would be even higher."

Realizing she could actually think along the same lines as a tightwad, Xia Qing suddenly felt she had the makings of one too. Full of confidence, she took the initiative to bring up the commission. "For this transaction, how much of a cut were you thinking?"

The tightwad, who had never intended to take a cut, could only answer when she asked. "According to the transaction rules, I'm entitled to at least ten percent."

"Then ten percent it is." Only taking ten percent — the tightwad was already showing considerable restraint. Xia Qing nodded. "I owe you 1,460,000 points in material transaction credit. Subtracting the spinach seedling points you owe me, that comes to 1,091,600 points. You can just deduct these points and your commission directly from the payment for the spinach seeds."

"Alright." Yang Jin stood up and discussed with Xia Qing, "For the second-generation spinach seeds we use to cultivate cordyceps fungus, how many points should we set per seed?"

Xia Qing knew exactly what he was up to the moment she heard it. "200 points per seed?"

"Deal." Yang Jin beamed and discussed with Xia Qing, "Can I exchange 2,250 second-generation seeds with you at 200 points per seed? Once I use these second-generation seeds to cultivate cordyceps fungus, the first-generation seeds I have on hand can be freed up for sale."

Just as she expected. Xia Qing nodded calmly. "Once the cultivation room is repaired and you need the seeds and spring water, just send someone over to collect them."

Yang Jin smiled. "The points you owe me have dropped to points."

Xia Qing……

After two-plus hours of dry-mouthed, fully focused negotiation, she still ended up owing him points……

Damn, she's numb.

"Oh, right!" Yang Jin called out to Xia Qing, who was already lifting the big bag of spinach seedlings and preparing to see him off. "Do you remember that protective suit I was wearing when I came to pick up the Yishi protective shell before the third Blight Rain?"

"That was a Field Grade-4 protective suit, wasn't it?" Xia Qing had long had her eye on that suit. Last time she'd wanted to trade with Tang Huai for one, but unfortunately he had none in stock.

Yang Jin explained, "No, it's far above Grade 4. It's a special protective suit made with added new materials, specifically designed for exploring humid, rainy Evolution Forests. Every aspect of its performance surpasses even a Field Grade-5 protective suit by a good margin. The visor has a built-in oxygen system — you could stay underwater for three hours without a problem."

The northern face of Mountain 60 was exactly that kind of humid environment, with vast stretches of Evolution Forest suited to poisonous insects. Xia Qing's interest deepened. "How many points for a suit made with these new materials?"

"Because the new materials are limited, right now they're only supplied to the military's special forces. I traded scarce resources with the base commander to get mine. If you want one, when I go see the base commander, I can add this condition to the deal. Brother Luo has recovered now and also needs a suit like this. However, if we trade for the special protective suit, the seed price will drop another notch."

"I want one." Compared to points, Xia Qing wanted the special protective suit that could boost her combat power and chances of survival even more. "Captain Yang, besides this type suited to humid, rainy environments, are there other types?"

Yang Jin explained, "The special protective suits equipped at each base are related to that base's environment. Guicheng and Huicheng bases only have this one type. Baicheng base has one suited to extreme cold; Lancheng base has two types suited to extreme cold and extreme heat; Red City base has ones suited to high radiation and high pressure. These suits are classified as special combat supplies and all require scarce resources to trade for."

Xia Qing understood, then asked in a small voice, "Are there any for dogs?"

Yang Jin……

"I'll ask around."

"Thank you."

After finishing the deal, Xia Qing saw Yang Jin out the north gate, handing him the packaging bag containing the spinach seedlings to Hu Zifeng.

Yang Jin, carrying two heavy packaging bags, promised Xia Qing, "I'll get the supplies you traded for as soon as possible and send someone to deliver them."

After carrying the stuff back with the boss to Zone 3 of Mountain 49, Hu Zifeng shifted the heavy packaging bag higher on his shoulder and put in a good word for Xia Qing. "Boss, farming really isn't easy. When you trade with Xia Qing, don't drive the price down too hard."

Which of your eyes, which of your ears saw or heard me drive a hard bargain? Yang Jin's face hardened. "Don't want that helicopter anymore?"

"I do!"

"Then shut your mouth."

"Yes!"

……

Helicopter? Heh heh.

Xia Qing returned to the spinach terraced fields and carefully combed through them again, up and down, left and right. Sure enough, she found another twenty-plus spinach seeds, and happily went home for lunch.

She'd been up at dawn to muck the pig pen, then dug medicinal herbs, collected spinach seeds, and negotiated with Yang Jin — busy straight through to now. Xia Qing had long been starving.

Coming down the slope, Xia Qing saw Sheep Boss standing by the reservoir, watching something unknown.

She moved closer, squinted, and peered carefully down through the rippling water surface. Only then did she notice quite a few tiny planktonic organisms in the water — seemingly algae, rotifers, and water fleas. All of these were premium natural food for fish.

The fish in the reservoir had been cleared out by the lightning, so the plankton had started to run rampant. Xia Qing drew a bucket of water and called to her companion, "Boss, let's go home and take a look."

Sheep Boss had no objection and ambled along with Xia Qing toward home.

"Beep."

Xia Qing heard her phone notification, took it out, and saw that Sick Wolf had entered the territory through the north gate. It must have noticed Yang Jin leaving before coming back for a meal.

Xia Qing cheerfully told Sheep Boss, "Lao Er got hungry watching the wild boars and came back to eat."

"Beep."

Xia Qing heard the sound again, checked her phone, and saw Broken-Back Wolf had also arrived.

Before she could say anything, her phone beeped again — Broken-Back Wolf left, then Broken-Back Wolf came back again.

Considering it was a big client, Xia Qing wouldn't quibble with it.

After getting home, Xia Qing spread the newly harvested spinach seeds out on the balcony to dry. After thinking for a while, she decided to give her idol a call.

Promoting spinach seeds was a big deal; she had to give her idol a heads-up first. If Yang Jin's negotiations with the base commander went smoothly, spinach seeds would be promoted for planting around April or May next year. It wouldn't be appropriate for this news to reach her idol's ears through outsiders. Xia Qing was afraid her idol would get petty and put her on the no-contact list.

For Xia Qing, what she stood to lose might well be her life.

Several million points were indeed tempting, but life is priceless — and her idol is even more priceless.

After the call connected, Xia Qing first asked, "Third Brother, is it convenient for you to talk?"

Zhang San was walking down a long corridor; only after closing the door did he weakly squeeze out a single word, "Talk."

After briefly explaining the spinach seed promotion plan, Xia Qing asked, "Captain Yang says the seeds are quite valuable. How many seeds do you have? Want to sell them together?"

How about a devoted fan earning points alongside her idol?

Zhang San's voice sounded languid, but Xia Qing could still tell he was in a good mood. "Mine aren't for sale — I'm not short on points. Do you have any green-light food I haven't tried yet?"

Hmm……

……

……

The idol doesn't lack money, but lacks gourmet food. What is a fan supposed to do?
