Chapter 417: Giant Wolf, Giant Bear, and Giant Python

~8 min read 1,463 words

Good lord!

Holy— good lord!

"This python is way too huge! Your Majesty, did you guys take out the leader of the python pack? You're amazing, Your Majesty is mighty, Your Majesty is invincible, Your Majesty is number one on the whole Blue Star…"

After the Head Wolf calmly accepted Xia Qing's fervent praise, its steps looked very light as it went into the wolf den to drink the spring water.

Broken-Waist Wolf came over, circled Xia Qing once, and looked up at her.

Xia Qing understood, and began praising it in a gentle, affectionate, heartfelt voice, "Broken-Waist is also very impressive. It must have been you who seized this once-in-a-thousand-years opportunity and gave Her Majesty the plan that led to hunting down this giant python, right? How many of your pack went out of the den to take down this python? Were any wolves hurt? If anyone's hurt, bring them over—as long as we have Yishi, everything's negotiable. Go on into the den and have a look. You've been gone these past few days, and the grass inside the den has gone damp, all messed up by Broken-Leg Wolf's little sister."

Broken-Waist Wolf was satisfied too, and went into the den to drink water.

Broken-Leg Wolf bounded over, tongue out, huffing warm breath at Xia Qing, looking delighted.

Xia Qing smiled too. "Broken-Leg, every time I see you you're bouncing around like this—does the wound on your leg need some attention?"

Broken-Leg Wolf kept leaping about, continuing to huff and puff.

Xia Qing simply pulled out the medical kit, pinned it to the ground, and cleaned, disinfected, and medicated the two-centimeter wound on its front leg, then bandaged it. Although the evolution bacteria's activity in winter is lower than in other seasons, a wound exposed to damp air is still very dangerous.

After bandaging, Xia Qing stood up. "All done, go in and see your sister. In four more days its brace can come off, and it can go back to the wolves' territory with you. Go tell your sister: once the brace is off, don't let it tear around the valley like you did back then and scare the wild boars we're raising."

Broken-Broken Wolf, seeing Xia Qing had stopped talking, couldn't wait and charged at the cave mouth—"Thud!"—and slammed right into the wooden door. The door shuddered from the impact, and the big slab of pond mud Xia Qing had just smeared on the stone wall came crashing down with a "Splat!"

"Wooo—"

An angry, dignified low growl came from inside the cave. Broken-Leg Wolf knew it had caused trouble, clamped its tail down, and stood by the door without daring to move a muscle.

After a while, Broken-Waist Wolf pushed open the wooden door, yipped a few curses, and only then let Broken-Leg Wolf into the den.

The last black wolf came over, gave Xia Qing a wary glance, and followed Broken-Leg Wolf into the wolf den.

This was the only normally evolved wolf in the pack; it didn't need Xia Qing's praise.

After the black wolf went in, Broken-Waist Wolf retracted its paw, and the wooden door let out a "Creak" as it closed—somewhat warped from Broken-Leg Wolf's collision.

"Cre—ak."

The wooden door was pushed open again, and Broken-Waist Wolf poked its head out, gazing at Xia Qing thoughtfully.

"Understood, heard you, I'll fix it right away."

This wooden door was something Broken-Waist Wolf had traded Yishi for; Xia Qing wasn't just responsible for manufacturing, delivery, and installation, but also for after-sales repairs.

After fixing the door, Xia Qing closed it and invited the buyer to inspect the goods. "Broken-Waist, try it again?"

Broken-Waist Wolf, who had been squatting inside the door supervising the work, silently pushed the door open, grinned, and showed Xia Qing its adorable little white fang tips.

"Glad you're satisfied. You play with your door, I'm going to go look at the giant python." Xia Qing put away her tools and went to look at the giant python.

At its thickest point, this python's body was nearly a meter in diameter—wider than two Xia Qings put together—and its length definitely exceeded fifteen meters. The python's enormous mouth was open, revealing two rows of sharp recurved teeth hidden in its gums.

Examining it up close, Xia Qing felt a chill run through her whole body, and admired Yan Long all the more for daring to take on five giant pythons single-handedly.

If it had been her coming face-to-face with this living python at close range, she would definitely have turned and run without a second thought, and only after confirming her own safety would she have used a sniper rifle to take it out from a distance.

Perhaps this giant python was one of the five that Yan Long had fought solo. Xia Qing pulled out her phone, took a few steps back, and photographed this python's facial features, then sent them to Yang Jin.

Yang Jin understood what Xia Qing meant, and quickly sent her back that photo of Yan Long fighting the five pythons, with a note: Looks like the one right in the middle.

Xia Qing enlarged this image that made her blood surge, and compared the giant python rearing up tall in the middle with the dead snake lying in front of her, confirming it was the same one.

In other words, of the five giant pythons in that photo, the wolf pack had already taken down at least three, and the combined combat strength of the evolved giant pythons in that stretch of water had been greatly reduced by the wolf pack.

Xia Qing pulled out a dagger and tested the hardness of the snake's skin, then sent Yang Jin a message: Confirmed it's the middle one. Its hide is even tougher than the first two giant pythons'.

The wolf pack had no long-range attack methods—only sharp teeth and claws. This python had been killed by the wolves tearing off its lower jaw and mangling its mouth and eyes; even its forked long tongue was gone.

Although she hadn't been able to watch the great wolf-versus-python battle up close, Xia Qing figured that most of the wounds on this snake's head had to have been left by the Head Wolf.

Because it was the king of this wolf pack, an evolved being of extremely high combat power in both the brain and speed systems, and it would definitely have been charging at the front line in battle.

Just as Xia Qing was about to put her phone away, Yang Jin sent her another photo, this one an aerial shot.

Because of the mist, the photo wasn't very clear; she could only make out two evolved bears standing by the lake, with several toppled and snapped trees and collapsed rocks in front of them—a scene of post-battle chaos.

Yang Jin sent Xia Qing a second photo, the same angle, the same chaos. The difference was that one of the two bears had raised its head, its eyes looking straight at the camera in the sky.

Holy crap!

This evolved brown bear had merely raised its head with a calm expression, not opening its mouth to bare its sharp fangs. Although it was a long-distance shot, and although it was only through a phone screen, the shock this bear gave Xia Qing was greater than that of the python right in front of her.

A powerhouse—this was absolutely a powerhouse among the bear pack!

Before Xia Qing could reply, Yang Jin sent another photo.

It was still that chaotic scene, but this time the angle had changed to eye level. Toppled rocks and trees that had rolled down into the swamp were in the center, with two bears and two wolves standing on opposite sides of the swamp amid the ruins, facing off.

With those two wolves as reference, Xia Qing finally understood just how massive these two bears were: standing upright, they were more than twice the height of the giant wolves! In other words, when these two bears were on all fours, the height of their backs was even taller than the evolved giant wolves!

Just looking at them made Xia Qing's heart race. How the hell could there be bears this huge on Blue Star—is this a joke? Just how terrifyingly, maddeningly far has the evolution of Blue Star's creatures gone?

Because she didn't know where Yang Jin was, Xia Qing didn't dare call him rashly, and quickly typed back a message with her head lowered:

The giant wolf on the outside left came with the Head Wolf through my territory. I saw the one on the inside after the python-versus-wolf-pack battle; its status in the Number Sixty Mountain wolf pack should be second only to the Head Wolf.
