Chapter 670: The Furious Broken-Waist Wolf

"Xia Qing, the blood sample you sent over contains a high-grade evolved Aspergillus, identical to the evolved fungus carried by the monkey troop that invaded Hui-3's western evolution forest and originated in Hui-6's evolution forest. Where are these three wolves?"

Xia Qing's heart leapt into her throat. "In the cave at Section 3 of Mountain Forty-Nine. Third Brother, what should we do now?"

Before being taken by the Broken-Waist Wolf in late January this year to deal with the corpses of the monkey troop that had invaded the western evolution forest, Xia Qing had carefully reviewed the evolved-fungus data Zhang San had given her.

This high-grade evolved Aspergillus that had evolved in Hui-6's evolution forest could rapidly grow and reproduce on food or organic matter, producing toxins that caused food to spoil. Animals that ate food containing this high-grade evolved Aspergillus would develop infection symptoms, becoming weak and even dying.

The food chain across the vast stretches of Hui-6's evolution forest eroded by this high-grade evolved fungus had already been severely damaged. Hui-3's western evolution forest was connected to Hui-6's eastern evolution forest, and these three wolves had likely eaten infected animals from the evolution forest, so they'd been hit.

Fortunately, although this evolved fungus spread very quickly, infection did not cause death within a day or two. Zhang San had already developed drugs to prevent and treat this fungal infection.

So his tone was not as grave as it had been the day before yesterday when the parasitic snakes were discovered. "Do you still have the tablets I gave you last time? If so, go feed them to those three wolves right away. After three consecutive days of dosing, their symptoms should ease. But the areas where they've been active—especially their droppings—must be disinfected to prevent the high-grade evolved fungus from spreading."

Xia Qing answered immediately. "There are enough tablets left for the three wolves. I'll go feed them and disinfect right away."

"Before you feed them the medicine, can you draw one tube of blood from each wolf and collect saliva samples? In the blood sample you sent over, I detected trace amounts of an antimicrobial that inhibits this high-grade evolved fungus."

Worried Xia Qing might not understand, Zhang San added an explanation. "In other words, the evolved wolf you drew blood from has already produced anti-pathogens against the high-grade evolved Aspergillus. These anti-pathogens are of enormous value for preventing and treating Hui-6's high-grade evolved Aspergillus. If I can get enough samples, I can study how they form and develop a more effective, lower-cost fungicide."

"Understood. I'll get on it right away." Although Xia Qing's basic knowledge was thin, after exchanging for a large amount of knowledge and materials from Yang Jin, she had been studying hard and already understood the value of naturally occurring anti-pathogens.

At the current stage, humanity's greatest enemy on Blue Star was not large fierce beasts, but rapidly evolving microorganisms.

The flora and fauna inside the evolution forests, on the other hand, formed an effective barrier between humans and microorganisms. If the anti-pathogens appearing in the bodies of these three wolves infected with the high-grade evolved fungus could be obtained and used by Third Brother, they would effectively curb the rapid spread of this evolved fungus and repair the damaged barrier.

Xia Qing's attitude of never dragging her feet when something came up and her执行力 greatly satisfied Zhang San. "Those three wolves are at a critical stage right now. Their digestive tracts are infected with three common pathogens. Raising their diet will help their bodies recover and produce more anti-pathogens. Do you still have any freeze-dried meat? Should I have Ji Li send some over to you?"

Xia Qing certainly wouldn't refuse her idol's kindness. "I only made four jin of freeze-dried last time—not enough for the three wolves. Please ask Brother Ji to send some over, Third Brother. The exchange points…"

Zhang San was in a good mood, and even his voice had turned gentle. "No points needed. Consider this dried meat an advance investment. Once the new fungicide is developed and produced, Hui-6 will definitely buy it in bulk. When we earn the points, I'll give you a twenty percent share of the profits."

Hmm, hmm?

There's actually such a good thing?!

Third Brother truly is a top-quality idol standing at the very pinnacle of the entire universe's pyramid!!!

After Xia Qing hung up the phone with a grin, she noticed the Broken-Waist Wolf wasn't watching the video but was gazing at her, lost in thought.

Evolved wolves had excellent hearing, but Xia Qing wasn't sure how much this clever brain-evolved wolf had understood.

She walked over, flipped to the pictures in her notebook, and explained the situation with gestures and words. "Listen, Broken-Waist, the three wolves you just brought over are infected with this fungus. Remember this picture? This is the lung of a monkey carcass we dealt with inside the western wolf pack's territory…"

After a thorough explanation, once she confirmed the Broken-Waist Wolf generally understood, Xia Qing instructed Sheep Boss to watch the house, and she discussed with the Broken-Waist Wolf going to medicate the three sick wolves and collect blood and saliva samples.

"Once we research the new agent, it won't just mean the animals get sick less often—the points we earn can also buy things you like. I'll buy you a bigger mirror, this big—how about it?"

The Broken-Waist Wolf stared at Xia Qing thoughtfully, not very satisfied.

Xia Qing had no choice but to bring out the killer weapon she'd already prepared. She carried the microscope down from upstairs, set it on the table, and turned on the computer to show the Broken-Waist Wolf. "Look, Broken-Waist! This is a microscope—isn't it the same as the one in the computer? This one's for you. From now on you can check microorganisms yourself. How about it? Do you like it?"

The Broken-Waist Wolf's eyes shifted back and forth between the real microscope and the one on the computer screen several times, and finally it bared its lips, revealing the tips of its fangs.

Success!

"Let's go, we're going to take medicine to your three companions and get samples. Deal?"

Xia Qing had just followed the Broken-Waist Wolf across the stone slab bridge over the stream when it suddenly stopped, raised its head to sniff a few times, then let out a roar and suddenly accelerated, darting up onto the buffer forest and leaping straight out without even using its favorite door.

Something was definitely up!

Xia Qing followed at full speed. When she reached Wolf Valley and took a look, she was furious too.

After being medicated, the three sick wolves must have felt better in their guts and gotten hungry. Instead of going elsewhere to hunt, they'd actually caught and eaten a wild boar from the valley.

The fur on the Broken-Waist Wolf stood on end, its fangs bared as it growled low, occasionally swatting the three wolves with a paw. It was the first time Xia Qing had seen it lose its temper like this.

The three sick wolves, blood still hanging from their mouths, tucked their tails and lowered their heads. After being knocked down by the Broken-Waist Wolf, they didn't dare get up, obediently rolling over to expose their bellies.

The belly is the most vulnerable part of a wolf's body; exposing the belly is a wolf's posture of submission, used to avoid further conflict and harm.

They'd dared to hunt and kill a wild boar from the valley without the Broken-Waist Wolf's permission—they really did deserve a scolding and a beating.

Standing above the cave, Xia Qing wanted to go down and curse them too. Who the hell gave you the nerve to touch the wild boar this old lady guarded all winter?!

After the Broken-Waist Wolf finished disciplining the three wolves, it picked up the slain wild boar in its mouth, jumped up onto the ledge above the cave, and placed the nearly gutted boar in front of Xia Qing.

Xia Qing blinked. What did this mean? This boar was for her?

After putting it down, the Broken-Waist Wolf noticed Xia Qing standing motionless, raised its head, and gave her a low growl.

"Got it! I'm taking it! Broken-Waist, keep an eye on those three wolves, don't let them cause any more trouble." Xia Qing immediately stuffed the wild boar into a packaging bag, carried it away from Section 3, and returned to the north gate of Territory Three to wait for someone.

Wait for whom?

Of course, Ji Li.

After receiving the dried meat and disinfectant that Ji Li delivered, Xia Qing handed the wild boar to him. "I didn't get the samples. I have to disinfect through the night. Could Brother Ji take this boar that was killed by the wolves back, have it disinfected and made into freeze-dried meat? Would fifty points for the boning and disinfection fee work for you?"

Although Ji Li was full of questions, he didn't ask anything. He nodded, took the heavy bag, and returned to Territory Seven.
