Chapter 955: Dual-System Evolvers Zhang Shi and Zhang Shiyi

"She meets the enrollment requirements. But the school will be starting summer break in a few days, and I'm not sure whether there will be a new beginner class after the break starts. If there isn't, Little Eleven will have to attend class with the current beginner class."

Before Zhang Shi moved into the Hidden Valley, Zhang San had already explained to Xia Qing that Zhang Shi and her child had complete freedom to do whatever they wanted. So when Zhang Shi proposed sending Zhang Shiyi to the Ninth Center for schooling, Xia Qing did not object.

Before the Catastrophe, only seven-year-old children could enter first grade, but now the restrictions aren't that strict—five-year-olds can go if they want.

Because the Great Evolution of Blue Star raised average human physical fitness by a full fold, even ordinary people now are stronger than humans before the Catastrophe. Add to that the pressure brought by today's harsh living environment, and the survival ability of a five-year-old child in Year Eleven of the Catastrophe is a notch higher than that of a ten-year-old child before the Catastrophe.

Among the children Xia Qing has seen, aside from ten-year-old Tan Qi, seven-year-old Wang Shunkang and six-year-old Liu Anqi are both less capable at survival than Little Eleven, who grew up in the Evolution Forest. So there's no need to worry that Little Eleven will be bullied by classmates because of her age after enrollment.

Moreover, the school within the Ninth Center has responsible teachers, security personnel, and cameras, so since the school was established, no malicious injury incidents have occurred.

Zhang Shi was happy just knowing her daughter could enroll. "That's no problem. She's already learned pinyin, addition and subtraction within one hundred, and over two hundred Chinese characters—she should be able to keep up with the beginner class's teaching pace. Is there a physical exam for enrollment here?"

Xia Qing was clear on this point. "It's done by the Ninth Center medical office. The main purpose is to confirm whether the child has any infectious diseases and the level of Qiong elements in their body."

Children with infectious diseases or Qiong element levels above 20‰ pose a direct or potential threat to other children's health and safety, so they must wait until the infectious disease is cured and Qiong element levels drop below 20‰ before they can attend school. The Ninth Center employee onboarding physical exam mainly checks these two items as well.

Checking these items requires obtaining blood, saliva, and stool samples from the person being examined, and also inspecting the child's back skin. Xia Qing knew what Zhang Shi was worried about, but if Zhang Shi didn't bring it up, Xia Qing would pretend she didn't know.

Zhang Shi took out her phone and typed a few characters for Xia Qing to see: You know my ability and identity, right?

Zhang San had asked Xia Qing to pretend she didn't know Zhang Shi's ability, but she had already guessed it, so it would be too fake for Xia Qing to claim ignorance. So Xia Qing took out her phone and typed back: I know. Regeneration evolution.

Zhang Shi typed solemnly: Thank you for collecting my family's remains and giving me their belongings. Although Eleven's ability is very weak right now, she also has this ability. Is there any way to let her bypass the bodily fluid tests?

Xia Qing thought for a moment, then typed: You can have a speed evolver swap the blood sample on-site. But for the safety of the other children at the school, I need to confirm she has no infectious diseases and that her Qiong element level is within the qualified range. As long as she meets the requirements, she can enroll and enjoy the same rights as the other children.

In other words, Zhang Shiyi's tests can be done by Zhang Shi or by Xia Qing, but Xia Qing has to confirm that Zhang Shiyi meets the enrollment conditions. She did sympathize with what Zhang Shi and Zhang Shiyi had gone through, but she had neither the ability nor the obligation to provide them mother and daughter with special protection.

Zhang Shi, her face grateful: As long as she can attend school like any other child, I'll be content. I know where there's a patch of high-quality Green Lantern soybeans of no less than 10 square meters that can be harvested. I want to use these premium crops to trade for your help in secretly swapping Little Eleven's blood sample. The swapped-out blood sample will be yours, to be tested by you or Zhang San. Is that acceptable?

Just as Xia Qing had typed that she had no use for Little Eleven's blood sample, Zhang Shi showed Xia Qing another line: The Regeneration Factor is a specific cure for Qiong Element Allergy.

Xia Qing immediately pressed the delete key on her phone and changed it to: Acceptable.

Her idol had been tormented by Qiong Element Allergy until only skin and bones remained, and was in desperate need of the specific cure.

Zhang Shi smiled, then typed another line: I want to use one tube of my blood to trade for one opportunity to secretly take Little Eleven on a Blue Dragon Squad helicopter to Lan Five.

Then, without Xia Qing asking, Zhang Shi gave the explanation.

Because high-tier evolution fungi had appeared outside the Safe Zone, causing panic, many Lan Five citizens wanted to leave the Safe Zone and live at other bases, so the situation in Lan Five was currently very chaotic. Zhang Shi would take Zhang Shiyi there to get an identity card for Lan Five's outer city, then use the identity of Ye Yang's brother, who was about to die, to contact Hui Three's military and search for Ye Yang's whereabouts. Once Hui Three's military contacted Ye Yang, Ye Yang would rush to pick up Little Eleven.

From then on, Zhang Shiyi would be Ye Yang's biological niece, living with him within Territory Fifteen, while Zhang Shi would continue to live in the Hidden Valley.

In her own words, only by separating from her daughter could her daughter be safer.

This plan was indeed very solid. Because of the Catastrophe, many families had been forced apart. Even now, in Year Eleven of the Catastrophe, the websites and mission boards of the mission halls at various bases still had many missing-person notices posted.

The reason Ye Yang agreed to take on this risk was that he needed regular injections of the Regeneration Factor to maintain his current physical condition—otherwise his lower body would have no sensation at all. Zhang Shi was too young and her ability too weak, so Ye Yang needed Zhang Shi's blood.

In other words, Zhang Shi would use her own blood to trade for the chance for her daughter to return to human society.

After learning of Zhang Shi's plan, Xia Qing very calmly typed a line: Why did you choose to trade with me?

Zhang Shi revealed another secret to Xia Qing: First, because Zhang San has too many eyes around him—if he helped Eleven enroll, Eleven would be in even greater danger. Second, Eleven and I have another ability no one knows about: Class C Magnetoception Evolution. After four months of observation, you and Ye Yang are the best choices I can reach.

Class C Magnetoception Evolution—meaning, just like Seeing Xin Yu, Zhang Shi and Zhang Shiyi possessed the ability to sense animal magnetic field fluctuations and detect changes in animal emotions.

Regeneration plus Class C Magnetoception Evolution was the reason Zhang Shi could successfully escape Hui One, give birth to her daughter alone in the Evolution Forest, and survive safely until now.

When Xia Qing and Little Eleven were catching bugs outside, Little Eleven's ability to detect the broken-legged wolf relied on neither hearing nor sight, but on magnetoception.

But just as Zhang Shi said, Little Eleven was young and her ability weak, so even a fierce beast as powerful as the broken-legged wolf had to come within 20 meters of her before she could detect it.

Xia Qing suddenly realized that Zhang Shi had brought her daughter to live in the Hidden Valley precisely to find an opportunity for her daughter to return to human society. So during the four months Little Eleven had lived in the Hidden Valley, aside from Xia Qing and the wounded soldiers living in the valley, no one else from the Lord Alliance who entered the valley to fetch water or do construction work had ever seen Little Eleven.

Xia Qing typed a line: Class C Magnetoception evolvers get headaches when in crowds.

Class C Magnetoception was both a protective ability, but at the same time it brought pain to the evolver—this was a side effect that Red One researchers had already published. A five-year-old Little Eleven entering a crowd would suffer a great shock and pain.

Zhang Shi wasn't heartless, but she had to do this: Eleven's ability is very weak. And Territory Fifteen is full of retired soldiers, and the school is full of children—the magnetic field attacks in these two places are relatively the lowest. She's a person, not a wild beast; she needs to enter human society to learn basic human knowledge and skills. After learning these, she can make choices according to her own will. If possible, I want her to become a farming lord, just like you.

This kind of lifestyle—being in human society yet far from crowds—was very suitable for Class C Magnetoception evolvers.

Seeing that Zhang Shi had clearly thought this through carefully, Xia Qing typed a line: If I weren't afraid of drawing unnecessary danger to Little Eleven, I'd really want to recruit Ye Yang into my territory just to handle the cooking.

Ye Yang's cooking was truly, truly excellent. Zhang San was the one who let Zhang Shi go, and Xia Qing was one of the people Zhang San currently trusted most. If a person with a five-year-old child suddenly appeared by Xia Qing's side, those secretly searching for Zhang Shi might guess that this child was Zhang Shi's.

Zhang Shi laughed out loud after reading it:

If you have other candidates, I can help you screen out the one with the least negative emotions. Please keep this ability secret for us—don't tell anyone, including Zhang San. In exchange, whenever you need it, you can use my ability for free.
