Chapter 144: Professor Flitwick's Invitation

~7 min read 1,289 words

Allen was stunned by the 100 Galleons mentioned in the letter; he had thought the materials from those giant spiders could fetch some money, but he never expected they would be worth this much.

However, he was not very familiar with the unit of measurement called a "pint," so he had to ask Hermione to clarify it for him.

A pint is a unit of volume; one pint converts to 568 milliliters in the metric system, roughly the amount in a bottle of cola.

Considering that a single Acromantula is at least as large as a calf, the amount of venom produced by each Acromantula would also be quite substantial; he estimated that the venom secreted by the seven giant spiders killed that day could amount to a full pint.

Yet he had only collected some dirty and smelly fangs...

That 100 Galleons had been wasted just like that! Allen felt as though his heart was pierced with pain...

Allen became even more eager to hunt Acromantulas in the Forbidden Forest; moreover, Acromantula venom is an excellent trade commodity—it is small in volume, easy to store, and can be sent directly to Diagon Alley via owl for trading.

Those spider fangs and spider legs might fetch some money, but they are too bulky; he estimated that most of the money earned from selling them would be spent on shipping fees, so he would only consider selling spider fangs and legs if he possessed a portable magical space item.

He knew that a spell called the Undetectable Extension Charm was widely used in the Wizarding World; for instance, the Weasley family's house had been enchanted with this spell.

However, he had rarely seen portable magical space items.

Thinking of this, Allen suddenly remembered that when Professor Flitwick had gone to Diagon Alley to pick him up at the start of the term, Professor Flitwick seemed to have taken out a white sphere and packed all his luggage inside it.

That seemed to be the first time he had seen such a portable magical space item in this magical world.

That sphere must surely be very precious!

Only then did he realize his thoughts had drifted far away; he quickly gathered his wits and prepared for the afternoon classes.

The afternoon class was Charms, and the atmosphere in Professor Flitwick's classroom was the best among all his courses.

Professor McGonagall's classes were too serious, Professor Snape's classes required extreme caution, Professor Sprout's classes were very noisy due to the various magical plants, Professor Lockhart's classes were too torturous, and Professor Binns' History of Magic classes were too dull.

Moreover, Professor Flitwick's popularity was absolutely the highest among the four House Heads; he had a very good temper, strong professional abilities, and even his height did not bring any pressure to the young wizards.

Today, Professor Flitwick was still dressed in a rigorous and neat little suit; he elegantly twirled his wand as if holding a conductor's baton, with every spell seeming like a musical note under his baton.

Today, Professor Flitwick was teaching the Engorgement Charm, whose effect is to enlarge an animal or an object.

With his high-pitched voice, he explained the casting steps and precautions for this spell in an accessible and thorough manner.

Every young wizard listened attentively...

Soon it was time to dismiss the class; Allen packed up his things, preparing to leave the classroom together with Harry and the others.

However, Professor Flitwick unexpectedly called out to him.

"Allen, if you have nothing else to do today, how about coming to my office for some tea?" Professor Flitwick issued an invitation to Allen.

Allen looked at Professor Flitwick with some surprise and stuttered slightly, "O... okay... uh... Professor, is there something you need from me?"

"Professor McGonagall showed me the paper you recently wrote regarding the improvement of the Qing Quan Zhou; the line of research in it is truly peculiar!" Professor Flitwick said with some excitement, "That line of thought was very inspiring to me, so I wanted to discuss this aspect with you."

Allen felt relieved in his heart; some time ago, he had written his improvements to the Qing Quan Zhou into a paper and submitted it to Professor McGonagall, never expecting that Professor Flitwick would see it.

Allen exchanged glances with Harry and the other two; receiving Allen's signal, the trio bid farewell and left first.

Thus, Allen followed Professor Flitwick through the corridors of Hogwarts; throughout the journey, the professor introduced the suits of armor and stone statues in the corridors to Allen, greatly expanding Allen's knowledge...

They soon arrived at the Ravenclaw Head of House's office.

The Ravenclaw Head of House's office was located at the thirteenth window on the right side of the eighth floor of the West Tower; through the office window, one could overlook the entire scenic view of Hogwarts.

The main color tone of the office's decoration was Ravenclaw blue; everything inside seemed to bear the Ravenclaw crest, and the portraits on the walls all looked intelligent and wise, gazing at Allen with gentle eyes, unlike some of the noisy portraits in Professor Dumbledore's office.

"Allen, sit here!" Flitwick pointed to a table beside his own desk and spoke to Allen.

Neatly arranged on the table were some miniature ornaments, among which was the white sphere Professor Flitwick used for storage, which Allen was very familiar with; Allen couldn't help but glance at the white sphere a few more times...

He sat somewhat nervously opposite Professor Flitwick, and a cup of steaming tea floated over to him...

"Professor Dumbledore said you are very fond of drinking tea," Professor Flitwick said softly.

Allen's breath suddenly hitched; "Professor Dumbledore even mentioned this to you?" Allen asked in surprise.

"For promising young wizards in the school, we often discuss them quite a bit." Professor Flitwick took a sip of tea, then raised his cup in a toast to Allen.

Allen hurriedly took a sip as well.

"Students from Gryffindor and Slytherin seldom come to see me, but students from Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw very much like to visit me," Flitwick said, sitting in his chair and adjusting into a comfortable posture.

After speaking, he waved his wand; a drawer in the desk opened, and inside, an iron box opened as well, from which a string of biscuits and pastries flew out.

These biscuits and pastries lined up in neat rows on the polished desk and began to dance...

"You may choose freely!" Flitwick invited Allen.

Allen watched the dancing biscuits with great interest; he did not know how all of this was achieved.

He casually picked a pink biscuit from among them and put it into his mouth.

"Very delicious! It pairs well with the tea!" Allen said; he suddenly understood why Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw students liked to come to Professor Flitwick's place.

"You are welcome to come and sit with me often in the future," Professor Flitwick said very warmly.

After the pleasantries, the conversation began to turn to the main topic.

"Your line of research on the Qing Quan Zhou is truly astonishing; others only think of water's boiling point being 100 degrees, yet you were able to break through inertial thinking to test 105 degrees; your powerful imagination and execution are truly enviable!" Flitwick's attitude was very polite.

Allen did not dare to show the slightest arrogance in front of Professor Flitwick and said very humbly, "I was just lucky, that's all!"

"Success once is good luck, but success multiple times is true ability!" Professor Flitwick looked deeply at Allen.

This was the first time Allen discovered that Professor Flitwick spoke so pleasantly...
